Ok so its been a busy day besides getting this buck out. Definitely a crazy morning. To start I jump 2 deer walking in. Get settled about 5:30am and don't see anything until I catch something white about 100 yards across the the hill. I pick up the binos to see a huge tall tined buck, walking away from me. I grunt and bleat a few times with no luck, until I look over my left shoulder behind me, and here comes this 10 pointer trotting down the hill. I initially let him walk, thinking he was small (not realizing he has broken tines). As he walks away I start second guessing myself, so I grunt and bleat at him, but he only stops momentarily. My next move changes everything. I almost never ever rattle, and I haven't done it and quit awhile. I feel it scares off more bucks than it helps. Just my theory. I actually had packed my rattle bag last night. This area Im in, is probably the only place I would do it. So I pull it out, knowing I have 2 good bucks in possible hearing distance. I do a hard sequence, and in about 1 minute, here comes the broken ten point. He comes in looking and begins to make a scrape. He starts blowing up and getting all bristled. He then walks right under my stand about 5 yards away, and begins to make a scrape right under me. Meanwhile the camera is running thank god. I decided to get back into the filming after leaving it home last year. Im waiting for him to start to walk out a bit for a perfect shot. As he starts to do this I move a little, and I watch as my arrow with the nock lit, falls off my bow and to the ground, landing right next to the deer. I have no clue what happened. Now hes walking straight away, and I am scrambling to grab another arrow. Luckily he stops just before getting behind some trees, and gives me a hard quartering shot. I debated for a moment, thinking it was to sharp of an angle, but tell myself, I can make this shot. I let it fly and it hits perfect and he runs about 20 yards and piles right up on camera. As I sit texting friends, I hear something come from the other hill, and here he comes, the big boy. He comes trotting down angling right at my buck. I grab another arrow, and try and get the camera on (unfortunately double punched the button) before he gets in range. I grunt stop him at 20 yards, broadside, and let the arrow fly...……..right under his belly. I have no clue what I did. Maybe dropped my arm, but it was a clean miss. This buck was huge with tall tines and a droptine, or flyer come off his beam. He jumps a little and is standing 30 yards away behind trees. I grunt a few times and then bleat but he didn't like it. He turns and trots all the way back from where he came. I did get some footage of him trotting away. It was crazy. I had such mix emotions, but as I sit here at home, I am very content with the outcome, honestly. Don't know if ill see him again or not, but it was incredible, to actually rattle in two bucks like that. This buck had 10 point with 2 broken tines. He was a srcapper with cuts in his back and everything. I will post a picture of him making the scrape under my tree in a bit. thanks for reading , sorry it was so lengthy.
