I like to walk in with a bit of gray light and this morning was no exception. As soon as I parked and got out, a spike that made the scrapes where I park was snorting at me. As I walked, he would run ahead, stop, turn sideways and snort some more. This went on for a quarter mile until I got to the middle beanfield and walked up on a young 8 pointer that didn't seem to care I was only 60 yards away

A minute later, a smaller 8 point joined the stare down. I took some photos and kept walking towards them. They ran back in the woods and I headed to the creek crossing. As I jumped across the water, a ten point bedded with a doe jumped up and ran out of the creek only 45 yards from me.

I climbed into a stand that I moved to an old hedge tree yesterday. As soon as I was situated, I blew my grunt call and was immediately startled by a loud snort behind me. Another spike had walked into range in the 2 minutes I was in the tree.

A short time later, two does squirted out of the creek bottom and came up the hill. As I suspected, a buck followed about 5 minutes later. He was a heavy, brown antlered 8 point that was tall and narrow. Definitely had some of the same genes of a buck I passed out here a few years ago. Due to all the limbs, I couldn't get my camera to focus with him moving. 6 bucks before 7:30 AM and my buddy just shot one in Harvey County!

Got to the farm and decided to hunt the woods. A short time later a coyote skirted me and I couldn't get him to turn around with mouth squeaks. He stopped then went on his way. Well sorry about that. You know where I'm talking about! You can wade up stream quite a ways (flat rock bottom) with rubber boots, set the decoys and hardly get above ankles wet. Shoot from the west bank. Use to be my favorite spot during high school, for duck hunting. Or maybe there is some rules against duck hunting there now, I don't know. Was a good spot back then.

No, on the pond freeze, not that I remember anyway. Mostly on school break for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Great for still hunting on a wet days, alot of area if you go slow like you should, it takes all afternoon, then sit for the evening hunt in the big timber at the North end. Thornton, The 2 sections east and south of that property used to belong to Frank Bills trucking in Severy and has a super draw right down the middle of it. He passed and I have no Idea who owns it now, I was lucky enough that let me hunt anything he had and he owned half of southern greenwood county (cattle operation). But then the dollars showed up and the rest is history. Got stuck up on top, on the lane coming in from the north spent a cold night there, until one of his cattle feeder guy's showed up next morning and pulled me out. Way before cell phones. Last time I owned a two wheel drive pickup. Don't know much about the property for sale. Close to a lot of department of tourism land though.

I was on standby for this hunt and found out the owner's rifle hunters were all indeed coming. We found a new spot not too far away, albeit smaller. The weather was cold and there were scattered areas of up to 4" of snow with drifts. We had no stands so finding cedars was the way to go. I only saw 2 bucks on this trip.

Went out this evening to the hills and glassed. Ended up walking about 3 miles and saw a lot of deer including 10 different bucks and at least 15 does. I've hunted this area since I was 15 and never seen this kind of activity. 4 of the bucks were over 140"

I've been having problems with my phone and memory. I was able to get a few pics this evening before it locked up again. The real excitement came after I photographed this doe and hiked over the bowl to the next draw. I encountered 4 bucks following 3 does. 2 bucks were old and 2 were young. The biggest was a huge buck I estimated to be 6 years old. I got to within 80 yards and followed him andbtge doe for half a mile. He was so high on hormones the only reason I couldn't get in range was because his foe kept getting up and running. She would run 200 yds and lay back down.

"I've hunted this area since I was 15 and never seen this kind of activity. 4 of the bucks were over 140""

Does this mean that the hunting has gotten better in your area even though you claim the NR's have ruined the hunting in KS?

Don't stress we're only a week away from you being able to take out the long range rifle so you can actually fill your KS buck tag from 1/4 mile away. Anxiously awaiting the picture of your rifle killed KS buck which we all knew would be the final outcome of this thread when you started it.

Surprised we didn't see a rifle killed CO muley buck during the rut this year? Did I miss it? Good luck on the rest of your season.

My Dad's knees are shot now but he's 86. I don't think he'd survive a surgery but 61 is pretty young Frank. If you don't want knee replacements get you one of those jacked up golf carts with a lift and mud tires. They are real quiet. I took dad antelope hunting in New Mexico last August and we were able to get within 250 yards of a herd in the bottom of a draw using a 4 wheeler. He got off and used a camera tripod to take the shot.

I returned to the same area this afternoon. I parked, hiked about a quarter mile and glassed a draw I saw a ten point bedded in last Thanksgiving. I had to blink because there was a much bigger buck bedded in the same spot. As big ones do, he had his back to the wind while he faced downwind. I immediately backtracked and tried to come over the ridge behind him and at an angle he wouldn't smell me. It didn't work, and he was headed around the hill.

As far as the coon picture I'm just wondering which one in the photo was the coon.

Pretty sure most guys on this site when they were 12 rifle hunted. Unlike you who claims to be a 35+ or whatever bowhunter on a bowsite that really can only kill a deer win KS with a gun. Only 4 more days till your season starts. Hope to see your hero shot on Wednesday November 28.

Thornton,

I love your semi-live hunts every year on the BOWSITE. They are so predictable as they always end up ending with a rifle killed buck, a couple quail, an OK buck or a picture of a car pulled over with you cuckold in the passenger seat of a "presumed" cop car. You have to be the coolest rifle hunter on this site.

My question still stands......when are you going to kill a deer in KS with your BOW instead of degrading every non-resident that comes to KS and enjoys their deer hunt? You are pathetic.
