Over 30 bucks and doe poached. Most left to rot.
Wow...can't wait to see their sentence
Pretty sad for sure. The article goes on to say it's illegal and dangerous for people to shoot at night with aid of lights, on and on, but does not state that all this is void if your Indian?
BW their sentence will probably be a couple grand fine and no hunting privileges for maybe 5 years.
Thanks for sharing. So disappointing what goes on in the Northwoods and people’s mentality. Agree on comments on the tribal hunting. It’s all done at night now out of truck window with spotlight. One distinct individual is at 53 deer with about 25 of them bucks. Giving some away, selling the others. I could go on and on. Between this activity and the wolves, no bowhunting for me, not giving my money to them till something changes.

Can you back up that claim?
I do all of my hunting in Ogema and I can tell you that after speaking to one of the local volunteer firefighters, there are roughly 15 suspects, mostly highschoolers that did this thrill killing. We were scratching our heads wondering why we weren't seeing much for deer this year. I did manage to put down a little 5 ptr last weekend. First legal buck with the bow and first deer to come into bow range this year. We've had rough years like this in the past so I can't put all the blame on these dumbasses but this incident certainly doesn't help matters.
"but does not state that all this is void if your Indian?"
It also doesn't state its void if you are predator hunting at night. What's your point?
Ranger-giving your money to who? Your license fee has nothing to do with treaty rights and not buying a license doesn't do anything to harm "them". Treaty rights are a whole separate issue that's incredibly complicated and unlikely to change.
Inmy, your statement makes no sense at all? Maybe we all should be able to run around with high power rifles shooting in the dark? evidently your ok with it?
Night hunting is legal for every hunter in the state. Heck, there is even a separate section for it in the regulations.
Yes, predator hunting, it is not legal to drive around shooting them from the road back into the forest/field/swamp from the road though! What is your point? To me it would be kind of un-nerving bow hunting up there and walking out in the dark.
There was a recent case of a woman being shot by a poacher as she walked out of the woods after bowhunting. It is a real concern.
And that was on private land. So while it is a concern anywhere, I fail to see how it is more of a problem if an "Indian" is doing it, as was implied in the post I responded to.
When predator hunting it is not legal to scan for animals with a light. The only time a light is allowed is at the point of kill. Meaning you have seen the animal without the aid of a light and you are about to shoot. So technically there is a difference between hunting and jack lighting.
What thrill comes from mass shooting of deer? What is next? This week I was Pheasant hunting on public land in Green Lake County. In the parking lot was a large, dead deer. The only thing taken was the head and all 4 feet at the elbow joint. Tarsal glands? I did report it, but of course good luck finding the scumbags.
Dang, I was just looking at land in that area. 1K an acre is not too bad. I'm guessing the thrill killers are the same guys that are huffing & eating Tide Pods. Just go to the general store & see who is buying the Tide Pods.
Hope they yank their licenses for at least 10 years along with heavy fines
I don't Albino....most of the thrill killers I've know have had gray hair....maybe it was from the tide pods or some white powder.
Could it be someone using a rifle with a night vision scope? With todays gizmos, I am thinking a spotlight maybe obsolete in the poachers toolbox.
Skook.- not giving my money to dnr for an archery license I will not use- until something’s done to control wolves, night hunting by natives, anterless harvest by timber company’s with ag. Tags- many times these r migrating deer from 8 to 10 miles away or bucks who have already shed when harvested in late dec. in the logging yards.
Yes doorknob. True statements. Was born and raised a man is only as good as his word. Pics all over social media say morning of large 10 pt. That was harvested at night by tribal member. It’s no secret but when turned over to authorities it turns out like the moose that was taken near Manitwish waters this summer.
Sorry - hi jacked a thread about a terrible poaching case- just frustrating.
I know my few dollars I save on archery mean nothing but I feel better.
Ranger, unfortunately the first two of those things are out of the DNR's control. That's up to the bleeding hearts out in the world who find a supporting judge (Crab) to get there agenda through. I buy a CP licence and only use half of it now days but that money does go into alot of thing that I use. My feeling is the best thing people who don't even hunt and fish, but want to put money in to fish, wildlife, lakes, habitat, etc. should buy hunting or fishing licenses. That is the only way these funds get into the wildlife. The problem is these people unknowingly give money to orgs like USHS and such that goes into there org., lawyers, and fighting us who hunt.
Agree. Tribal hunting and wolves are out of DNR's control. You guys holding out on hunting are only limiting yourselves. You may wait a long time and then some.
No waiting here to hunt. Elk in the Rockies and upland bird hunting- dakotas and montana. Blessed to be able to travel to other states. Just spending vacation time else where.
1993 4 of us went bird hunting in Price cty on county land . I went waaay back in . Found a pillbox that had room for 2 or 3 shooters . 10 spots from 25 yards to 150 yards with about 25 lbs of corn at each spot . Each spot had a battery powered red light . Beer & brandy bottles everywhere .
We called the DNR & let them know .
It must be the water there .
Just watched TV 13, a new case of group poaching, in Eau Claire County around Augusta.
Screwball, I saw that. Glad these morons are getting caught.
Are the Indians allowed to hunt private ground
