Who is out today. I am heading to the rut stand. After a week of no sightings there. I got in late yesterday afternoon and bumped a doe and nice buck under my stand then a 6 pointer came cruising by half an hour later. Good temp, pressure and wind today. Let’s see some big boys today !!!

Damn me, shot a doe, think it was back. Thought it looked good and she was going to fall over, then she tucked the tail. She tried following the other does out, but couldn’t. She bedded 40 yards out. Keeps getting up, taking 3 steps and bedding. Definitely a gut right guys? Her head is alert and moving constantly. May be in this stand for a while. Hate leaving her 40 yards out in this condition, but no way I can get a clean shot on her. Can’t believe I ef’d that up, 22yds.

An all gut shot hit the deer will go more than 40yds. Sounds like liver and possibly gut. She is a dead deer. How the recovery happens depends on you. It sucks to see her suffer but she will. Wait it out as long as you can. If she is still alert before sun set, back out as quietly as possible not to disturb her and return in the morning and she should be there. With the rain coming in tonight I would not push her as your chances in finding her will be slim.

Stand off continues. Shot felt and looked good to me. Gave her an extra couple steps to turn broadside, but it meant letting her hit my path walking in this AM. I was prepared for when she crossed my path and pinned her the second she stopped dead in my track. Thought my arrow would beat her but she flinched. Still looked good though. Kicked, jumped 20 yards, stopped, let out a huge breathe, tooks a few steps, tucked tail and bedded. Hoping I clipped lung, liver and grazed guts.

Sit tight, Addicted. Ditto what Dan6310 said. While it is brutal to watch, recovering her depends alot on what you do and more importantly don't do. This will have a happy ending. Stay vigilant...

From: TT-Pi
09-Nov-18
Will its Diaphram I believe. Liver or gut, she would just walk away. One lung would blast blood out the nose. That big exhale is the diaphragm busting and not being able to function. She will pass out from low oxygen.

( she's trying NOT to fall asleep but there is no choice ,she is passing out)

You have all day I assume. Sucks watching them suffer, but she will die. Give her 3-4 good hours and if you can see her clearly you will know when she dies they usually start breathing fairly heavily during their last 30 seconds or so and maybe she will straighten out her legs. If she doesn't get pushed she wont leave that bed, keep your eye on her for sure. Keep us updated! Awesome job!

ooh. thats a tough one addicted. if she was angled you could have caught one lung. if you push her she could run a mile on one lung. I say let her lay. I know its tough. but wait until she at very least stops moving. if after 15 min of her now moving and you are still unsure, climb down quietly and sneak in for a coup de grace.

Was it low? My buddy shot one low like that and it bled a lot and bedded very quick like yours. The shot was under the lungs we let it sit 4 hours and then we crept up it. It got to its feet and took off but only went fifteen yds stopped and he put another in it

Addicted, awesome work. That's not easy just letting it be and waiting. Really well done.

I'm with the crew, really looking forward to hearing where the hit went and what was impacted. Looking at it, it looks good. It feels like a spike I ended up with a liver hit on maybe 8 years ago. He went about 30yds... and stood there for about 5' and died. But the location looks really similar. Looking forward to your "necropsy" results! Again, congrats and enjoy the feast.

Glad that worked out addicted!

After the last few days not seeing anything from the stand I decided to ground hunt. I went east of my stand to an area I thought was doe bedding and spotted a doe through the binoculars. Was able to close the distance and waited for her to move into the lane. I was in my leaf suit but was worried the lane was so close to my wind. She was so curious about me I don't think the scent bothered her. Blew and stomped at me, ran away, then crept back, tried to go around me then got close again. Kept this up for several minutes. Was pretty sure I had her because of how close she kept creeping. Drew when she was behind a tree about to step into the lane @ 20 yards. She must have noticed the bow or something because she turned and bolted when she stepped out from behind that tree. Waited a while to see if a buck would come by but no luck. If I hadn't have dropped so low to the ground when she was getting really close I might have had more shooting options. Oh well, I'd rather an experience like that than seeing nothing. Might be able to get out for a bit this evening too, we'll see. Even bumped a couple more does leaving the woods. They're definitely moving around!

Autopsy complete. Single lung, liver and clipped gut. Hardly any blood out of entrance hole. Cavity was pretty full. She survived bedded for 4 hours. Thanks everyone for helping me stay put. It was the right call.

From: hickstick
09-Nov-18
good job!...yup sounded like a classic liver hit, bedding within site, moving and bedding again. but when you said entrance by the shoulder it threw me. I bet she stepped toward you at the shot and what you thought was broadside was actually slightly quartering to.

From: Will
09-Nov-18
Interesting indeed, and as Hick said, makes sense given your description of events and her behavior. It's great she laid down in sight. Imagine if she'd gone "just over the hill" so to speak. You may have figured: "she's done" and tracked her in 20-30', only to bump her and then may, or may not find her. That's a good lesson for all of us to be patient as possible on tracking jobs...

Thanks for doing a good "surgery" on her Addicted! Again, congrats!

Went to check my camera at lunch today and decided grabbing my bow and throwing on some camo wouldn't hurt. After swaping SD cards I leaned against a tree , looked at my watch and decided to hang out for 15 min. 5 min later here comes a decent size four pointer browsing as he goes. Came to 30 yds behind a tree, I drew and waited for him to come out the other side and walk past some branches. The zig zag path he took while browsing only gave me a severe quartering away shot while in the open so after a while he moved off to 40yds and I had to let down. Closest I've got so far to shooting one with the bow from the ground. Was pretty awesome. He never saw me . I was even able to take a couple steps to try to get a better angle while he was behind the tree. Just never worked out. Was fun though.

Doe with kid in tow today. The young one came right to my my tree. I think he was smelling my scent left at the base. I could have tackled it. Mom was also an easy target at ten yards. I did not have the heart to hurt either one. I'm going soft.

Cool Les! Also cool DFA! Some great encounters.

Ungie that happened to me, but with a doe, who, seconds later was chased past by a golden retriever. I grunted at it to make it stop chasing her (20yds past my stand) he looks over and proceeds to channel his inner hound barking like nuts. I could hear the owner blowing a whistle about 150yds away on a trail. Oh well, at least I got it off the doe...

I would say the rut is on. Trying to upload my crappy video to YouTube but it’s having problems. Had another buck come in on the same track as the Dow and buck earlier. He lost the trail and did a couple circles till he found it again. As I was walking out I jumped another buck on the same trail she came in on

Finally have a hot doe in my area and we are getting an inch of rain with 20-30 mph wind tonight. WTF !!!!

So I went out for my evening sit. As I walk outside, doe at front of house. I sneak out back and doe follows. In my garage/blind for 5 minutes and doe comes 10 yards of window. I shoot and hit broadside. Arrow stays in her and she bolts. Nice shot just behind front shoulder. Must have hit bone for it not to pass thru. So she has my arrow and I want it back. I saw her go about 100 yards and lost sight of her thru the trees. I waited and did a big circle looking for her, but no blood and didn't find her. So tomorrow I will look again. I need sunlight to see. That is why I stop shooting before it is legally over since I can't see well at night. I hope for better results in am.

Got out for an afternoon sit to a stand I have not been since 1st week. Put out a squirt of BB, a bleat a grunt wait Passed on a 4 pt that came in from left. Passed on a doe that came up behind me. Up off to right doe comes busting out of thicket with her yearling in toe, the Big Boy hot on her tail, off to right in whips gone , I grunt a few times wait I got a different doe comes in to right on top of me, out of the whips comes the hot doe headed back where she came from Big Boy is hot on it nose to ground passes through shooting lane at 30 yards so fast no shot, I tried to stop him but he didn’t even care. She got in the thicket out infront at 60 yard and they were now slowly walking away. The other doe is still on my back right 20 yard here comes the 4 pt again. I passed on both. My legs are junk , I never had that much action in one sit. What a Buck! Big body, tall and wide rack a monsta! I was standing the whole time I was out, from 2 till dark . One of the best moments ever in the woods and I didn’t even get one! Now I will be dreaming of that Big Boy rack as he was going away from me . This stand has very little scrape / rubs, I set that stand there cause I always get lots of pics of mature does with fawns. Be ready Men the rut is on!
