Looked at the temp out side 20 degrees started shivering before I got to my stand
I am out in a new spot. It’s thick with underbrush with no leaves so it’s going to have to be close to have a clear shot. Longest is probably 25 yds or so. That’s what I feel confident with
It’s perfect this is what we wait for! I might get out there after work. Good luck
Out. Heard something move off in the dark as I headed in. Quiet but definitely cold. Good luck everyone.
Three does just walked by upwind. Waiting for a buck to follow now.
I’m out. Just heard some turkeys come off roost. No deer yet. Perfect out
Big 4 point walked 30 yards from me but I have a real big 8 point about 60 yards I keep calling him but he must be checking caller ID because he isn’t answering
Perfect morning. Walked through a couple of puddles on the way in - then my boots were freezing to my aluminum dtand!
It's a tad chilly today. Nothing but squirrels so far! Good luck everyone.
Had a bunch of turkeys out in front of my stand had a rabbit chasing them around
Dthfrmabove's Link
Nice one Dthfrmabove. Those thick spots offering 25 yds are like most of mine lol.
Dthfrmabove looks like a nice setup good looking deer
only had an hour. did see 1st scrape fresh on way out...starting on cape maybe.
Nice Ungie! I’m out, cold and waiting.
That’s the way Ungie! Git em!
Way to go Ungie! It’s cold and no deer here.
Awesome ungie!
Had a deer go by at first legal, to far to ID. Beautiful morning!
Nice 8. Came in blindly to the can call right to my scent wick. 15 yard shot
Bumped one coming in in the dark. Probably same doe I saw Saturday. Nothing since but black coffee & poptarts :)
Just like that, wow! Way to go Ungie!
Congrats Ungie! Had the target 9 point come by 15 minutes before shooting light and by the time shooting light came around he was walking away quartering away at 20 yards in an area I didn’t feel comfortable taking a low light shot. I know I made the right decision but boy did that not make an already frustrating season any better
Big deer there Ungie. Congrats. Finally warm with the sun on me. Quiet. Where’s the rut?
Little chilly this am. Spent a few min trying to dig what I thought was breakfast out of my beard only to realize it was ice haha
Nice deer ungie.
Congrats eating some of the doe i got opening day
Ungie way to go! Congrats.
Just watched a thick neck beast chase a doe full speed across the hill on the opposite ridge.
Watch before you know it these doe's are going to start a me-too movement lol
Beautiful morning. Turkeys everywhere and a group of does running all over the hillside tails in the air. Couldn't see a buck but he had to be there.
WTG Ungie, great buck! Sounds like a came back into town and there is action. Good luck all
Congrats Ungie, great buck ! 2 of my buddies shot nice rack bucks this morning in 4N. Without a doubt today was the day.
Great buck, Ungie! Congrats!!
I am shocked that I have not seen or heard a single deer today. Weather was near perfect. In it for the long haul at this point. Going to run out of snacks.
Saw a 6pt walk by at 70 yards o/o range at 6:20 this morning. Forgot grunt call in truck.

I just set up for an afternoon hunt on my property. I'm in the two-man stand 15 feet in the air overlooking your Crossroads of four different paths. I have a 4 point buck, a nine-point buck, a 10 point buck, and a doe still on camera. Looking to get a nice big buck today hopefully. Got the scents out and ready to go.
Peter !!! Awesome buddy. Great job. Can’t wait for the story !!!!
11-12 worked hard in the day putting my time in at my office. 2pm head out for a sunset hunt. I head for the only fresh scrape I’ve seen- parking lot is full I’m taking the long way in. Come in quietly, 3 ft up the tree go to pull out my safety strap, quiver screw and hook for back pack fall out to ground. I figure who cares I have my new bow hook. I get up there bow hook to too thick to screw in, Ive always used the quiver mount g5 or hook to start the hole. Oops! On the drive here I saw a doe calmly walk across street. Calmly followed by a huge 4 point. I’ve seen little six points this guy was impressive. They were not chasing but walking. Anyway, I rig a hook for my pack with the haul line get set up and who is coming in again? FIDO in the bright yellow again looking for my tinks 69. He clears out just in time for the neighbor to turn on his leaf shredder or wood chipper or whatever. This will be dead until 4:30 then hopefully I get 30 minutes of real time. There is a huge field across the street maybe I’ll do some calling if that shredder ever goes off. All in all, much better than sitting in the office!
Good day for a few. Congrats. Got back out this afternoon. Perfect conditions but nothing is moving near me. Not much sign either. Rut always seems late for my area.
Nice fatty! I drag mine out the same way. Jet sled is the berries.
Way to connect PK! Fatty! Congrats!
Buddy shot a big bodied mature 7 pt at 2:30 pm
Big doe. I almost crapped myself pulling her out. Was in the tree early. At 7am a doe goes bolting by my tree, like three feet away. Tail was up and she was hauling ass. Something spooked her. Ok, good start. About fifteen minutes later this girl shows up. She is about seven yards away, I have some pines giving me a bit of cover so I draw. Wouldn't you know she sees me? I am over twenty feet up and there are pine branches everywhere...WTF? I stay totally still at full draw. She backs up enough that I can let the bow down. She doesn't move for five minutes. Then she decides to head down the hill, just a little, going around a big piece of ledge. Then she works her way up and into my lane, about 25 yards out. I need her to take one more step, which she does, then stops. I am already at full draw. I let it rip. Just as I release she starts to move. I whack her but it does not sound like bone. Very hollow sound. She barely flinches. Then slowly but surely I watch her walk away. I get a glimpse of her about 200 yards away, so I have an idea where she was heading.
I wait a half hour then climb down. I find the arrow. No blood but thick green smeared all over it. Damn it. So change of plan for the rest of the day. I decided to go to work, even though I planned to spend a day in the woods. Figure I would come early afternoon and go to work with a grid search; work slow, and use a binocular just in case she is still alive. If I can spot her alive from far away, I can just back out.
I start where she first walked off to after I hit her. I begin to zig zag and to my surprise I find a few drops of blood. Then some more. Every few feet I would encounter small drops of bright red blood. After about three hundred yards the blood trail is gone. I am in a low area and much of it is flooded. No signs of her in the water. The only other option was for her to head right between the flooded area and a fifty foot cliff, so off I go. I really did not want to get wet. After about twenty steps I see a fat deer, out like a light. Done.
Fortunately she was quartered away when I hit her, so that arrow eventually hit an artery. I have never gotten out of the woods to leave a deer be. That was the longest six and half hours ever. Glad I did though, better safe than sorry. I was even tempted to not go back until tomorrow, but I was afraid the yotes would get her.
Nice buck Ungie! Peter which spot on your map did you get that?
Great job on the search and recovery Peter. She is a fatty
Ungie, great buck!
Peter, you popped the cherry on your ultra-light setup! Congrats brother. Any chance the tenderloins were still good? I cry when I gut hit deer because that is the most impressive piece of meat.
Spike, I hunted another spot today. It was the one where a buck winded me last week. Been doing the same thing though; moving around quite a bit trying to figure out where they travel most frequently. The mobility has helped me a lot, especially since every area I hunt has a bunch of other hunters.
We just ate the tenderloins. They were perfect. Served rare with pepper and onions.
Sat from 5:30 am to 5 PM. First all dayer in the saddle. No issues other than the uncooperative deer. Lol.
About noon I was getting bored so. I did a circuit of situps, oblique crunches and some inverted rows using my lineman rope. Lol....I can lay completely perpendicular to the tree in the kestrel ( which is how I pulled the situps off).
Stupid is as stupid does,I guess
About 3:30 had a doe at 40yrds feeding for 15min, until the landowner made a bunch of noise and spooked her off. Was hoping a buck would follow her in but nope. Heard some yotes howl in the dark as I was packing up.
Feel like I got my setup nailed down with my 3 Step Leverage steps plus wider for the climb, 2 Stepp Ladder steps for my platform, and a third Stepp at head height for my bow and gear hook. Leaving the tree completely unmarred. Set my tether as high as I can reach. Perfect comfort all day.
Congrats Pete on breaking the ice from the saddle.
Another buddy shot a whopper 8 today. He and my other friend both shot them in zone 1
Went out today at 3:00 PM. Got settled into the stand. Flipped my doe bleat call a couple of times. 20 minutes later I heard a little crashing. Flipped the can two more times and another little spike bites the dust. I am tagged out on my bucks this year. I have two doe tags to fill.
Ungie your our western version of Moons lol!
Spike! That’s a compliment. I think. Lol
Spike this afternoon in the Blue Hills.
8 does this morning between 9 and noon. Feeding Z6. Keeps it interesting
Great day in the deer woods. This buck was rutting. Had a west wind in my face and I could smell that musk when he was still forty yards away. Awesome hunt but tough getting him out. Advil tonight before bed.
BC, BM, BH3138, Peter Congrats guys! Awesome looking animals!
6 point 158lbs
6 point 158lbs
The bucks are dropping! Nice work! BC, that's a sweet one, is the blood behind him from gutting or is that the end of the blood trail?
That blood is from his mouth, where his head was laying when I found him. It was touch and go because I had very little blood trail. I had a high entrance but no exit. The broadhead buried in his opposite leg bone and broke off. Had a double lung but only spots to follow. He barreled down hill about 70 yards and crashed in some thick stuff. Awesome hunt.
Good job everyone! Congrats on the deer! No bucks came out to play for me yesterday. Had 2 does come to the scrape I was sitting near. Heading there today after the rain in hopes they are moving.
awesome guys! yesterday as certainly one of the days we talk about!!!!!
Wow nice work yesterday everyone!
I am stoked for all of you that made the shot count yesterday. Great stuff, all beautiful deer. Hick I sure hope you get one with that mean looking stick n string !
me too bowandspear. this trad bow "lucky #7" has drawn a blank so far. not the bows fault, just haven't gotten anything in range in 2 seasons. regretting selling the Black Widow....that was at least luckier.
Awesome buck Brian. Looks like yesterday was good day for a bunch of you. Congrats!
