Started hunting yesterday after being away at work for a month. Saw two shooters out of range and chasing does hard. Saw a total of 10 deer before 9am and the a broke off 6 point at about 9. Yesterday evening only saw one 6 point. They started working over a well real close to where I was hunting. Also they were harvesting the cotton one field over. Didn't expect to see anything.lol. I'm hunting north west of Kingman.

This morning was a bust for us. Been too windy I thin. North central kansas is having a nice 20 mpg north wind and getting colder. We didn't see anything so far.

Hunted Greenwood county all day yesterday, pretty much a bust. Saw a total of 3 does and 1 spike. Have a few decent bucks on cam, but all at night. Buck quality on our farm has dropped significantly in the past several years.

I remember a year fourteen fifteen yrs ago when the bucks went plumb stupid at the first of rifle season lots of big guys running and chasing. There were Alot more mature deer then or the latter part of the rut was going strong. I can't help but think the next two or maybe three weeks are going to be the best. Maybe even into Dec.

I've hunted 10 of the last 14 days, full days.
I have only seen two mature bucks. Lots of 2-3 year olds.
Standing beans in my area are a challenge. Deer bed near the beans and the bucks don't have to look far for does. They bed in the middle of the vast bean fields.

Seen 7 does this evening right at dark... The farmer just finished up the bean field today at around 2pm. He came back to move equpment at 4pm and after messaging him when I got back to the truck after the hunt he said he seen a giant buck just across the draw from me when he left that was headed my way. Never seen the buck but right at dark I had 7 does come out into the field. Not even enough light to attempt a shot. Already filled my buck tag Monday. 1st bow kill in the snow. I will be back after the does in the a.m.

Saw probably 10 does feeding in the field and they were being chased around by three different bucks two were young, one eight point the other a ten point. Both will be good deer in a year or two. Then there was a bigger deer but he had his left antler broke off. It must have been a huge deer to twist his horn off. He was a mature buck.

I was surprised not to see anything moving yesterday morning. After no action for 3 hours, I moved a few hundred yards and hit the grunt tube once I sat back down. I had a really nice mature buck right on me in under a minute. Sat for a few more hours and saw nothing.

Saw about 15 deer this morning. 5 bucks, 2 were shooters. Lots of chasing and cruising going on all morning. The biggest buck I saw was a 160”+ crusing through the timber at a quarter till 11:00, about 80 yards away. It’s noon as I type this, and they’re still moving, but the wind is about to switch on me. Going to move to a different spot for this afternoon.

Had a decoy out last night with Bucky Jr. as Potts calls him. I thought I had this giant figured out. And I did he came walking up a E/W fence like I had him figured. BJ only had one dink antler but this old boy wasn't having any part of it. The wind was 30 mph out of the North I was in a cedar, perfect right! Ha! He turned at 17 -20 yards to jump the fence to go get my wind, a cedar limb was dancing wildly washing over the buck vitals I loosed one over his back . Too bad for me! I was back this morning saw 3 bucks and a band of fawns waiting for mothers return. My son builds the CSB,s in firestone Co. and this recurve I'm carrying i'm hopping to take a buck with is a beauty. Why did a mega buck not just come in there and kick a**.??

Sat all day today. Saw 23 deer. 8 bucks, 15 does and fawns. Interestingly enough, two of the does still had a fawn with them. I’m going back where they were tomorrow. None of the bucks were anything close to mature, except for the largest 4 pointer I have ever seen. Didn’t want to shoot him, though.

Jayhawk 1983 what part of the state are you in? I'm west if Kingman. I'm back out this morning wind is wrong for my stand but All the deer I have been seeing have been coming from the wrong direction anyway, lol. I use scent spray, and I believe in it.

Rambo, Good luck with him. He is a nice one for sure. Decoy usage is a head scratcher at times. One thing is for certain, the bigger bucks for me have always swung way down wind vs smaller bucks that just walk right in. I've had big bucks walk through stuff I never see deer in just to get the wind advantage.
I'm not a very good shot, like to keep things close, real close but I almost wonder for big bucks/decoys if we shouldn't be placing the decoy out farther. Say 30+ yards. Sure, you would be taking longer shots at some bucks, but the big ones may just fall in your lap.

I wish I were hunting today, but unfortunately I’m just walking the local nature park during my lunch break. I’ve seen quite a few does and fawns up on their feet browsing. But most notably, I’ve seen a bunch of new rubs that were not here last week. Isn’t it a little late for that?
