Monthly rainfall for the rim 2019
Arizona

2019 looks to be starting out great. There is 2 inches of snow on the ground, and more falling. I will give monthly total unless there is ginormous storm that dumps lots of rain or snow. Don't expect any totals for Feb, March. April as I will be in Australia and New Zealand and the majority of the Pacific South Sea Islands.

Can you put a live cam on your rain gage? Just kidding. Have fun with your travels. Sounds like a great time.
Had 6" of snow last night. So it off to crank up the snow blower and clear the driveway. Just as I was finishing the driveway, the county came thru with a grader and cleared the snow off the street, so I can get to town if I need to.

Have 16' at my place in the White Mountains.
13 inches total snow since Christmas with the storm today. Jan, is getting off to a great start. Looking for a break, tired of shoveling.
Terry
My desert landscaping is full of weeds.

Webcam for Christopher Creek. Right across the road from the Creekside Rest.

Had another 2" of snow last night.

3.7 inches of moisture for Jan, real good. All the intermittent streams have water in them. Stock tanks are close to full if not full.
Leaving for 3 months, when I get back in May will give the total for Feb, Mar, and April.
Just took the wife to Young for lunch. Took the Chamberlain Trail FS300 and on the way back we went up on top of the rim. Still lots of snow on top of the rim and all the shallow lakes up there are full.

Last week had 2” of rain......then 8” of snow so far today......supposed to get up to 12” Thursday & Friday. Going to be green this spring and summer!
Which usually means the higher risk of it being black isn't far behind (forest fires when all that new grass and brush drys-out)! But, it should make for some great antler growth this year. Thanks for the update.
They’re really thinning out the forest up here, Marvin. USFS told me they have a contract with a timber company to thin it out, as they never want to have a repeat of the Wallow Fire.
Two feet and more coming in Forest Lakes today! And Roy is correct, I’ve never seen so much logging going on as in the last year. They’ve definitely been busy.
Chris:
Be careful up there.....sideways snow coming down hard at my place. Hope I can get out by Saturday......got a feeling I’ll be shoveling a lot in front of the garage tomorrow afternoon!
Thanks Roy! I’m safe and sound in Texas right now. Just keeping a close eye on what’s going on from afar.
I received almost an inch of hail in North Phoenix this afternoon!
Close to 3 feet in Flagstaff, with more to come.
The news said that today had the highest amount of snowfall of any day in Flagstaff's history.
Yep! Looks like about 36” in Forest Lakes too!
News just reported Pinetop is 24" so far.....supposed to snow most of the day.
This is awesome. My buddies in Rio Verde and Cave Creek have 6 inches of snow. Taking my boys sledding up in Flag tomorrow afternoon. As long as we can get up there, it should be awesome.
Be safe out there!
I live in North Phoenix near Ben Avery, and there is snow on the small mountains in front of my house this morning. This is the first time in the 16 years I've lived here that I've seen snow from my bedroom window!
BGhasbhat take chains,My sister just returned from Flag...More snow on the way.
Roy, that can't be you? Aren't you in Omaha?
No. Leaving Sunday. Panel is from the 27-2nd
Pretty crazy to see actual snow this low. I'm on the Cave Creek line.
37” so far in Lakeside.....supposed to get a bit more from 7-11. We may end up at 40” from this storm!
‘dem darn elks this year gonna be biggin! :)
Antler juice.
Hopefully I have a late unit 27 tag calling my name next week
......another foot yesterday. With the weather turning warm this week, another huge melt off will occcur. All the white mountain lakes are over flowing!
Roy, a couple of my favorite White Mountain lakes are looking at winter kill (grimace), but that's a LOT of antler juice for all you lucky so-and-sos with elk tags this year!
Back from Australia and New Zealand and a bunch of islands in the South Pacific. Looked at the rain gauge this morning and it says 16 inches total, so I am sure that it didn't capture all the moisture from all the snow we got this winter. In excess of 3 ft on the ground at one point according to the neighbors.
Terry
Lets see some pics! Red stags?
No hunting pictures, this was a trip for the mrs. after her health scare. Did see pheasant and wild turkeys and one red deer hind.
Just talked to the neighbor and they had 96 inches of snow over the winter. That translates into about 9 inches of rain not recorded by the rain gauge.
Terry
Had a good storm up on the rim Saturday night! Total down pour! Love it.
.97" of rain at my place so far for the month of May. It's greening up really nice.
That's great. Hopefully with all the moisture, the fawn mortality rate will be improved this year.
The antelope fawn recruitment should be 10x better than last year!
Snowing pretty good at my place right now.....about an inch on the ground! What a weird year as far as temps and moisture. Gotta love it!
Coldest May on record. Snowing today in Flagstaff with high winds. Snow Bowl Ski resort reports a season total over 340" this season. The stars are lined up for some good antler growth. My garden is not so happy.
Like others are reporting snowing right now. Had an inch before noon, it stopped and mostly melted off. This afternoon at 2:00 started snowing again, and we have had about 2 inches. Driveway is still clear, but had to go downhill to the barn and hose of the satellite dish to get the internet back.
Terry
Been snowing all morning.....unreal for this time of year!
With the snow this AM that takes my place over 100 inches of snow 2019!!! All the seasonal creeks have water running, the stock tanks are all full. Even the elk are sticking to the paved roads. Saw about 40 of them last evening crossing the road as I drove thru Pine.
Terry
17.35 for the year, 1.98 for the month of May.
Terry
.20” of rain this late afternoon from a heck of a thunderstorm. Smelled good outside!
It is almost like the monsoons came early. Gets up to 80 then about 2:00 it clouds up rains a little and the temp drops into the 60's.
Terry
Don’t worry. The oppressive heat is on the way. Models are showing a late start to the monsoons with below average precipitation amounts. Although the monsoons are no guarantees, the hot temps are a given. It’s coming! :(
How’s it looking two weeks into June?
.03 inches so far in June. June is typically the driest month of the year.
Terry
Looked at the previous post again. Most of the small intermittent streams are still running. Green grass everywhere, lots of wild flowers. Downside, this morning it is really smoky from the wildfire and controlled burn on top of the rim. The wildfire is being treated as a controlled burn.
Terry
For those that applied for the North Kaibab for deer this year, I just spent several weeks camping there (through June 3), and this is what my camp looked like a good portion of the time. Still lots of rain, sleet and snow coming down north of the Canyon on both the Strip and Kaibab!
Looks more like Musk Ox hunting conditions!
Thanks for the updates on the precipitation.
I heard that the monsoons may be delayed due to the El Niño pattern.
Cheers
The June update will be a little late. Taking a trip to Alaska, be back in July.
Terry
Just over a quarter of an inch yesterday afternoon to finish up June. We needed it.....still green for June, but that will help keep it there until the monsoon really cranks up!
17.38 YTD total. Unlike BOHNTR did not receive any measurable rain the last day of the month. Alaska trip was great fun. Wife found one of those fill up the boat price deals. Regular price would have been 16,000 for a 10 day cruise, we paid 2,500. Bad part is we spent a bunch of money whale watching, hiking in the Tongas NF and eating halibut in town. Flew to Anchorage and then took the train to Seward to catch the boat. Train was one of the best parts of the travel.
Saw bear, deer, moose, and a ton of eagles and whales and otters on the trip. Did not see any brown bear, but I can confirm that they do go in the woods. Hugely. Salmon were not running yet, so the bear sighting stations were used, but no bears were sighted. Guides carried 45-70 lever actions along with bear spray.
Wife wants me to get a guided hunt next year, so I may drive thru Canada, do a spring bear hunt, then travel around Alaska all summer. Have to start planning.
Terry
Monsoon has started, clouded up this afternoon and got .11 of an inch for a total 17.49 for the year.
Terry
Got exactly 1” in the rain gauge from last nights downpour. That should really help the grasses and flowers.
Welcome back Terry!
That’s great news guys! Had a sprinkle on Saturday and that was it, then I had to head home back to the heat. Hope it rained in Forest Lakes!

AZBUGLER, here is an URL for you that will get you all the info you need. Really good site. On my travels I hit it often to see what is happening in the neighborhood. Then adjust for elevation. Look for the Home button and there is history too.
Not sure why the link didn't work, but if you copy and past the address in your browser it does work.

About .30” tonight.....would like to get a bunch more and firm up this mountain clay. :)
Very weak start to the monsoons. Hope it picks up soon.
.25” of rain on Thursday....about .20” yesterday. Slow start to the monsoon, but they’re saying it will crank up this week.....we’ll see. Hope so, I’m tired of watering trees and plants

20.66 ytd. July total is 3.28. Half of that fell last night and this morning.
Terry
Bulls will start rubbing here shortly, probably within the next 7-10 days. Any rain now will only help to keep their bellies full with fresh grasses and forbs! :)
Absolutely pouring right now and has been for 45 minutes.......my rain gauge is already at 1".........it's filling my newly dug pond too! :)
Nice! Glad to hear. It was needed.
Power is out and the rain gauge is up to 1.75” and still pouring. That’s a lot of water in a short amount of time!
Ended up with 2.25" total for today.
That's exciting news, hope the tanks start filling up.
That's awesome. Looking forward to heading out there in 38 days... and counting.
....another 3/4" this afternoon. Ground is saturated, as standing water everywhere.
Looks like more coming your way this week.
2.87 for the month. 23.53 year to date total. Even though this has been a lackluster monsoon, it is still green up here.
So far the new month started out OK, as we had .13 this morning, and there is more on the way. I can hear the thunder to the east of me, and that usually means that it is going to rain.
Terry
Its funny, I was just thinking of this thread as we just had a quickie roll through Phoenix this afternoon. Glad to hear its still green up there.
Any totals from the area North West of of Flagstaff.

zoom in on this and pick a weather station for details near where you plan to hunt. Has more info than I can figure out. Good luck.
5.51 inches for the month of Sept. All of it from the big storm. 29.04 for the year.
Terry
What was October & November like for moisture?
October was very dry. November ended with quite a bit of moisture. Just under 4” of rain and 15” of snow for the month at my place.
