Had a good friend find 4 deer on a PA property he hunts. No signs of any problem or hunter etc. Just dead. Heard of 20+ found dead around Dauphin. Does anyone have additional information on what might be going on.

You need to provide more information. What part of what county? Near water? How long were they dead? Were they all together or spread out over a large area?

EHD hit my area about 6 years ago. We lost 75% of the herd.
It's just now coming back.

PGC hit my area some years back. But the private property is fixing it.

We had a warm and wet Nov and December. Whatever is caused by those biting midges is the cause not CWD would be my guess. .

They probably died of boredom. No one is hunting them anymore behind those yellow signs.

Ron,
Back in the day, it was standard practice to make yourself presentable (no camo and wad of snuff) and knock on a door (preseason) to ask permission to hunt.
As a land owner in this day of entitlement, does anyone still do that, or is it more blatant trespassing?
By the way, I respect your right to do whatever you want with your own land.

Pa long bow I agree go back to 1 doe tag, that's the only way to help with the deer herd in pa, and your right on about some people's mentality of number of deer tags filled. I'm a meat hunter but only try to shoot only 1 doe and it's either with a bow or in the late season with a flintlock .

The whole reason that folks can get more than one doe tag is because the biologists have determined the size of the deer herd they feel the habitat can support. Based on the number they allocate it seems they don't believe the herd needs to be helped.

Maby we should all not buy a liscense and go wild boar hunting out of state, I talked to a guy who hunts all over the world, he said if you ever eat wild boar, your never hunt whitetail again.

I hunted yesterday in crawford county had a good time not a deer was harmed was a good hunt , I saw 2 deer in morning walking in, we pushed rest of day got like 20 movin no shots fired. The only reason I get more then 1 doe tag is that I hunt different wma areas.

Wild hog is very good! Better than deer. In March we are headed back to the swamps of SC for another traditional bowhunting hog hunt. Once you chase pigs in the lowlands with a longbow hunting deer around here is almost boring. It will be our 12th trip. Spring break!

You got a good point longbow go to 4 point one side, all of the stud bucks are all shot up, only the small scrappy bucks are in the gene pool now. And 1 doe tag. I passed up alot of shots in rifle season on doe, hopefully it will help out next year on the population in that area. If you think about it only takes 1 hunter to hunt a area 5 years in a row and only take 1 doe a year that's alot of deer , with the fawns that could be 18 deer in 5 years do the math.
