I offered to take my wife to Italy but it didn’t work out. Then I told her we could go to France if she made arrangements with her family. That didn’t work either. When I brought up Yellowstone I never thought she would go for it. I bought tickets today we are going! Flying into Bozeman and out of Jackson hole! I hope my kids love it they are 7&10.

Yellowstone is a must do because it is just so weird. Nothing like it anywhere else on the planet. Only problem is that it is a zoo. If you are there for a while, hop in the car and go to the Tetons. Tetons really are a part of Yellowstone, so it is close. About thirty minutes away. The beauty cannot be placed into words. We camped while in both places. I have been twice. Bot times we just winged it and we got lucky to always find a camp site. However, to do it right I think you need to plan well in advance. Oh, and you do not have to camp in either place. There are other options. But in my mind, places like that should be slept on the ground :) Pete

Going to Turks and Caicos in about a month for February vacation with the family for a week. We go to the York, Maine area every year in August as well once my daughter is done w travel softball season. We may take my mom to Montreal, Canada for a long weekend over the summer as well. She spent a lot of time there with family as a child.

Tetons indeed - make the trip while at Yellowstone to ditch some of the crowds. Deerhunter -as a fellow "late" in life parent (had our twins at 37) - congratulations and best of luck. There will be challenges, but your kiddo will be beautiful as they are. Kids, and the lives they lead, are amazing to be a part of!

We will do some of the "normal" stuff, visit the wives family in north central MN for a couple weeks, go to Maine for a few days... We may do a few weekend or day trips to go hiking or something.

Certainly fun stuff like riding bikes and fishing, doing some kayaking with the kids - got "yaks" late last year, and the kids love it.

Heading down to the outer banks, went last year and it was a blast. We go to Corolla in the northern part where you can drive on the beach. It's an awesome vacation, we drive the trucks down the beach till we find a spot with NO ONE around and set up camp for the day, hang out, grill, fish, swim, etc. Its a beautiful area and well worth the drive. Congrats deerhunter, my last boy I was 39. It has its challenges at the advanced age but it's all good. We're wiser with more experience LOL

My wife and daughter number two are heading to Idaho to ski in March. Daughter one will drive up from Utah to hook up with them. I will stay behind and care for the dog and the cat. No trip planned for me this year. I will take days here and there to fish the canal during the week, hoping to get away from the weekend craziness there. May do one or two overnight hikes. I have been hammock camping lately, trying to go as light as possible. Lots of fun.

I am very, very tempted to do an out of state hunt. Would love to go for a hog with a bow. Can't seem to find enough time to focus on organizing stuff like that though. I wanted to mountain bike Moab last fall. Never got my sh&t together for that one neither.

Honestly, I am starting to appreciate just staying home and walking the woods, fishing hunting, and cooking. For example, too cold to ski this weekend so we stayed home. Smoking some country style ribs outside, pressure cooking about fifteen pounds of meat for the dog, and will be canning some potatoes and carrots once the meat is done. Just love that stuff. Pete

Work, work, work. I say this every year that I am going to work right through the spring, summer and fall so I can have more time off during hunting season. Damn fishing gets in the way too much for that.

I will be going to ACK for multiple trips this year on the weekends to fish the beaches for the toothy critters. Have a wedding to go to on the vineyard middle of sept. Will be out there for a 3-4 day stay. Hopefully the bones will be out there when I am there. Will be dropping my stepson off at either Shattuck St Mary’s or at Eagle brook. That will be a weekend event. Daughter has nationals for dance in Vancouver this year during the July 4th weekend. Hopefully I can attend that one.

Weekend nights will be spent on the south side fishing with the new surfrods I will be building this spring. Anyone wants to hit the beaches this summer night time for some fun let me know. We always have room

PeterK, Moons and Deanman You better get in touch with me for some fishing down here this year !!!!! Should have a boat to fish from

On a side note.... M&D bait will be Selling the business. Check out his Facebook page. “ cape cod bait and tackle “ for updates. Best customer service and pricing around. I have brought a few of you guys down there for setups and he will be sorely missed. That is where I have shopped since moving down here and he has fed my other addiction and was always a place I could go to just hang out and relax. That was my second home in the warmer months and I have no idea where to go now. Lol Will miss seeing you down there Mike,Barbara and Felicia !!!!

DTH, we will definitely fish together. It would be fun to hit the canal with a few of you guys, or some other spots. I will miss Mike from M&D. He was great to deal with last season.

I'll be on the boat this summer. The girls learned SCUBA this past year, we just got back from diving and fishing in South Florida and we're heading to Bonaire for school break to dive some more. So if my evil plan works I'll have wife and kids swimming around chasing fishies with pointy sticks this summer.

I'll be on Let's Go this summer! Lost most of August and fall to engine failure. Rebuilding the engine and on the water. We'll be on the Vineyard a few weeks on her, based out of the Black Dog, Vineyard Haven. Also taking her to a few classic boat shows, maybe Wooden Boat Show, Mystic, CT and Antique and Classic Show, Salem, MA . Working Let's Go's little sister too, a 19' 1955 MacKenzie. Let's Go is a 28' 1955 Mac. Both built in Kingston on the Jones River at the old Shiverick yard. Stay warm all! Let's Go

Dfa - I got a saltwater rig first time last year. I fished the canal hard only got a 29” striper. I’d like to join you sometime if possible.

C’mon down noob !!! What do you have for a setup for the Canal ( rod and rating for oz,line, and reel ). This will tell me how exactly we will be fishing down there. Also what lures and what time were you going. There are much dinner things to catch and better places to go than the canal also. Letting me know what you have for a setup will determine what we go for

Moons. You better be living down here with me every weekend in the summer !!!!! Gonna put you on a 200 lb shark from the sand. Either that or we will take the boat out and catch a fifty lb striper

Building another rod for you to use. So just bring some of those snack sticks and summer sausage with you and we are good. Lol. Every weekend night I will be going to the south side. Have a bunch of tags to use. Plan on tagging 15-20 this year. You just need to get ur azz down here to do it!!!!

Work work work too. Florida in March for daughters senior year of college softball. Surf casting for stripers day or night is a lot of fun hopefully this summer I will get out there more and have some fun! Definitely up for it . I’m in Easton . Let’s do it!

I’m in and I can drive. I got a 9 foot rod and a Daiwa 6600 I think with 40 lb braided. I use sebago swimmers, plugs like 9”, and savage blues 8”. I got the rig second hand from that poker guy at Pawtucket flea market.

Just picked this up today. Entry level kayak and now I get to buy accessories for it. Sick of the surf casting scene and want to try something different. Hopefully I won’t be a snack this year for whitey !!!!

That looks cool- ocean worthy? I can’t wait for turkeys and stripers.

From: Dthfrmabove

It’s 11’8” with a 34” beam. Very stable but probably slow as molasses. I only plan on using it close to shore to fish for tautog, sea bass, stripers and blues and albies. No more than a half mile out or so. I might get stupid with confidence and use it shark fishing come the end of the summer. Going for a “ Nantucket sleigh ride “ could be fun for a while. Lol

27-Feb-19
That’s awesome. I was looking at some freshwater ones but not sure I can do it solo.

From: Dthfrmabove
27-Feb-19
Is it safety you are worried about? Freshwater no problem. I don’t think there is a pond or lake big enough that you can’t swim to shore if you tip. Unless it’s Quabbin then some one will see you in a boat. Always wear a pfd and carry a whistle around the neck. Practice getting back in the kayak in shallow water. The sit on top ones are super stable and easier that ones with a cockpit. It will change tour world of fishing. I fished for years from a canoe solo and with someone and just the last couple years started taking kayaks out in the bay. It’s fun and will be a game changer

27-Feb-19
It’s lifting it onto the car and also the storage at my house. I was looking at solo fishing kayaks but then my mind started to wander about using it to deer hunt and I got overwhelmed. I’ll be fishing the canal in May maybe buying a saddle too this year. That’s enough investment for awhile.

Wapiti

I was a big Canal fisherman till last year. It has become a circus and I decided to find beaches and quiet places to fish. Couldn’t have been happier with my decision !!!! This is why the kayak comes into play. There are so many places that I can go before the stripers even hit the Canal. I was catching nice fish 30 days before the Canal had their first run of keepers last year, and now I have a kayak to hunt the shoreline for them

I am taking a short kayak ride up a river near me to some unreachable property. Unreachable by foot that is!!!! This property is surrounded by private land on three sides and the river on the fourth. This could change the way I look for properties to scout and hunt

DFA, I used to fish barnstable harbor out of a kayak. I was flyfishing for stripers back then. The kayak is a lot of fun and get you into some great spots. Took it to Nauset and Monomoy as well. The f'n seals did not make me happy though when out there in the yak. I had a huge bluefish pull me out to east bumf&ck once :) Pete

My buddy and I fished Barnstable harbor once. Hottest day of the year. Came back around the corner and saw nothing but sand as far as the eye could see. Had nothing but probably 18 empty beer cans on board. That made for a long walk back....

From: Will

DFA, yaks are fun. Just got a very basic model last year. I may try the ocean with it... But for lakes, ponds, rivers... very cool. Your's is a little more "advanced" with the elevated seat, but I'm sure you could fish the ocean. I'd be a little cautious - mostly due to current and big chop (swells you will flow over... it's the choppy stuff that could be iffy). Other than that, and the ride you will take with a 40# bass :)... it will be solid.

Bring it to your son's school when you visit and go fish the CT River for smallies.

Will seat as multiple positions and it was in the high position for fishing. This yak is known for being able to stand on and fish. Very stable but not the slfastes through the water due to the tunnel hull design. This is the reason I purchased this one first. I wanted to really get a feel for full time fishing with this one and eventually I will upgrade to a sleeker design. My plan is to go out on calm days in upper buzzards bay and fish close to shore.

The kayak will be coming with me on visits to Eaglebrook for some fishing !!!!!
