I can live with this one. It gives a slight increase in probability of drawing that chosen tag, includes all the seasons and even still allows the NR's to play along.

I don't understand how this is going to change the draw odds in any significant way. There really wasn't a huge change to begin within the initial proposal and this just waters it down even more. Like cubing the points for the draws to appease a vocal minority the commission is going to end up doing nothing to change the deer draws. They will do the same in regard to nonresident issues as well I am sure. What a colossal waste of time, money and energy. I'm done commenting to SDGFP on these issues. They are going to do what they want regardless of how people respond. The people were clear about being in favor of this change, but they continued to bow to the loudest voices in the room. Once again this year the two people I know who had muzzle loader tags barely hunted with them and they went unfilled. That type of waste is why I was in favor of this change. People consistently draw numerous tags and by the end of the season lack the ability to hunt the tag while others go without a tag. Lame. It was a good effort by some to make a significant change for the better. Oh, well.

They did a great job of making everyone unhappy with this latest proposal. Meh.

What were the proposals or where can I find them? Hopefully, it is resolved to the satisfaction of the citizens of South Dakota.

Look on the SD GFP webpage under "News" You should find it there. Lets be honest. We are never going to get a consensus on what is best. Keep in mind this is still just a proposal.

Yes, the actual "bang for the buck" of more individuals drawing a preferred rifle permit is quite watered down with this one. From approximately 3,500 to 1,000 'additional' licensed firearms hunters. It's something though and a small step. Odds won't increase as much with this one but they will increase some, depending on unit. As for NR archery, I am still feeling pretty good that 'something' will get done this year. What all that entails is still open for the commission to decide. The commissioners and staff I've talked to are well aware of the complaints and issues. If I had to guess, it will be a public land NR solution first and the private will probably stay as is for now.
