Does anybody saddle hunt? If so whats your set up?
Aero hunter Kestrel in a size 2 with a 33 inch waist. Extremely comfortable when everything is dialed in. Takes a few sits to adjust. I am more rock solid. I am more comfortable with my shot and I have zero issues shooting 360.

Yep, what NB said! I have gone as high as 30+ feet a couple times. And as low as my feet in the ground. Lol
You going to saddle palooza noc?
No NB. Where are they holding it this year?
Fort Stewart on the 15th-17th. I'm mainly going to try out the different set ups. To many options it's overwhelming. Figure it's cheaper to go try before buying one of everything to learn the hard way. And I could use some pork in the freezers
Please report back what you have picked up on. I know you will learn a whole lot down there. Probably better bring some cash too. You may be able to get a saddle while your there!
I've been looking at those a lot recently also on You Tube. Been thinking about it. Anyone have issues using Trad bows out of them shooting wise?
L2H I think you would love it. It brought a whole new excitement into hunting for me. Faster setup time. Less weight to carry and no clanking noise. My only complaint I could find and it does not bother me what so ever. Is bringing the bow over the bridge to shoot on your offside. You can avoid that though by turning your back to the tree and leaning away from it for the shot. I’m sure you know what I am trying to explain.
Noc, what is your climbing method? And platform? Id really like to try carbon bolts, never knew they existed prior to saddle hunter forum.
Camp, I was thinking just the opposite with them and trees with a lot of limbs. I would think they would work slick, but never being in one I'm not sure. I was thinking of getting one of those hang and drags (I think that's what they are called). They are cheap enough to try and get a taste of using one. If I like it, I can then spend on a higher end model.
Actually, I like what I see with those Wild Edge step ladder ones. I hunt 100% public, no screw in's. Or, if the tree is right, use the branches. Check out You Tube vid's on all the different ways people climb trees to use the saddle. I used to have a set of strap steps that I thought worked pretty well. But, they were stolen when my one stand was stolen on a two day hunt in the C.N.F. Still can believe someone found and stole it in that amount of time.
It may be light going in, but I watched a young guy set one up last year, down in the Bluff Country,,,,, seemed like a lot of work really, but he liked them......
looked at the wild edge steps, too noisy and cumbersome, for a long haul carry in, inmho............................
If I was younger, I am sure I would try em out though,,,,,, I first saw them many years ago, when I met John Eberhardt, he is a very good hunter, and first guy I knew that was sold on them
some of the things you guys are saying is just not true. Saddle hunting is very comfortable. It just boils down to what you choose to buy for comfort. Getting the saddle is the first step. Some guys stand on spikes. I would think that is uncomfortable. What I did was take off the seat to my Lone Wolf and machined up a 1.125 sq. Tube and converted it to the seat. You can also buy the Tethrd system, which covers everything.
Capt. Mike is right. Knee pads. Don’t go cheap. The process can seem like a lot but it’s not at all. I may never sit in a tree stand again.
NB I climb with spurs or my sticks. Like I said above. Take my advice and go with a seat style. Stay away from bolts. That’s will put too much pressure on your feet imo
Noc, that is what I thought also for the stand. The small ones they make for saddle hunting look to be the better option. There is a video of one guy using a rock climbing rig where he used a rope only to climb the tree. That was interesting, not sure the cost of the equipment though.
L2H seems to be a bunch of ways to get up the tree now. Most I would stay away from but they have their purpose for guys looking for something specific.
I don’t think any would disagree that stands are heavy. Heavy make things harder. Especially when you are leaning awkwardly in a tree and doing your best to remain quiet.
Nothing heavy about saddle hunting and ropes do not clank. My setup times are faster and my guess is a lot of you would raise your eyebrows when in it.
THP crew just posted a video on saddle hunting on YouTube. They have a new partnership with Tethrd this year. I have never tried a saddle but am getting educated on the benefits. May give it a try in 2019.
I went to a seminar by John Eberhardt, at a deer show, 2 years ago, that guy was really into them,,,,,
I admire anyone that could use one,,,,,, I could not do it, I have another style, but I can see how effective they can be, that's for sure,,,,,
bored today, so I was on the computer,,,, lots of You Tube on saddle hunting and different set ups, very entertaining
Take a look at this.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJzdQPa4xEA
Plus, The Hunting Public guys are pretty cool to watch.
