I think we had a similar thread, my apologies if so. Anyone going outside mass this year? I actually just booked a bow hunt with a bunch of guys in Ohio. I havent been out to the midwest in about 10 years. Looking forward to it. Wolf creek whitetails of Ohio. Many guys I’m going with have been several times. Semi guided.

I have always been interested in an Ohio hunt. Did any of your buddies score big? From what I hear some very impressive bucks come out of Ohio.

I have been tempted to do something like that, but I don't even know where to start figuring out how to do it. Pete

I'll be hunting bear in NH like I have the past few years. Hopefully I can bag another, I've have multiple friends who now think bear meat is the best meat on planet Earth.
I've also been researching a few out of state/country hunts. Unfortunately I don't think either will pan out this year. I've been looking at diy elk in Idaho and moose in Quebec. I was always under the impression you could only hunt in Canada with a guide, turns out that's not true. There are areas called ZEC's, which are basically equivalent to WMA's. No lottery either, you can buy a moose tag every year, even as a non-citizen. That is super interesting to me and although it probably won't happen this year, I'm going to be seriously looking into for the coming years.

Wapiti, your best bet is to get advice from Tazman, who just posted, or fisherick. I know they've both posted extensively about their elk hunts. I was leaning towards Idaho because of elk numbers and tag prices.

I did a DIY whitetail hunt in Ohio 2 years ago, definitely worth the trip. I wasn't able to fill a tag, but the sheer number of deer I saw on stand was worth the drive. I really envy guys who get to hunt in states like that year round. I got on a mature buck my last day there but couldn't close the deal. I think if I had my saddle it would have been a different ball game, lugging that climber around all week whipped me out. My son gets out of the service in August and he's stationed in California, we were thinking about doing a DIY elk hunt in Colorado, although I dont know if I could keep up with him. I got the idea from Taz on his first one, I was checking the site every few minutes following his thread. I love that stuff, it's almost like being there with one of your buddies. Looking forward to the updates again this year Taz!

This being a BowSite. I’m pushing hard to be competitive in the target world. Hunting this season one for the freezer then hold out for a Trophy to me...

The wife harvests in the garden. I kill in the the forest. With Moons on that one. But to answer the thread, New York Southern zone bow is a definite. Hopefully some ADK backpack hunts. I'll also chase snow in NH and Maine during rifle. Maybe elk. Tekoa

The guys I know who have been on this hunt have killed some very respectable deer over the years. All meals and lodging are included. They have stands & blinds on the farms. They show you where they are on a map and you go from there I guess. You can bring your climber / saddle as well.

Ungie, if you have some camping gear you could do a DIY Colorado elk or mule deer 10 day hunt. Fly, rent SUV, food, 3 nights motel, tags, etc. for $2100 or less. Or drive 34 hours and bring more gear for about $1200-1400. Success rates are 10-20% and the adventure is awesome.

Nothing world shattering here. CT, maybe NH and definitely MA for whitetails. MA for Turkeys. Ill get some saltwater fly fishing in in FL, all water fly fishing here with a hair of trad gear mixed in and some fresh water fly fishing in MN.
You all are making me think some year we should do an Eastie inspired DIY in OH "Bowsite MA" group hunt. Could be fun.

I'll hunt whitetail in PA and CT. Come August my son will be stationed in Utah so might try to hunt with him out there. He'll be in an area where some tags are OTC. Will also try to line up something else out west if I can. Good luck to all.

Pretty basic for me. Mass and CT. Last year I did add NY for a quick weekend hunting trip with my daughter. Would like someday to go out west or a little south for deer and maybe hogs....
