How many bucks did each one of us kill last year? Buttons included.
I’ll start. I killed zero.
One and the shooting the doe before next buck was the reason and I was fine with it.
1 and done Nephew....1 and done
Zero. (First time in 20 years.) :>(
Zero this year. 1 buck in last 3 year. 2 in last 5 or 6 ??. In WV
Gobbler is your management plan working?
I think so, all 8 of the bucks we were watching this year made it thru rifle season this fall. We had 8 or 9 does killed
A few of the ones we let walk. Even though we’re not shooting them its hard to get one to 4.5, which is just the beginning of maturity.
That’s great I killed 1 around 130 inch. But probably the biggest buck killed in the state was shot on our farm.
Throwing JR’s response aside, due to its obvious attempt, we've yet to get an answer of two. Much less three. Must not be any bubbas on here.
I killed three bucks this year. I killed 2 in the city on the urban hunt and one on our property.
Plus I harvested 5 more does in the city as well
hunterj for the win. Unless there are some Bubba's out there. There has to be. We've been told for years about all of the dumb redneck bubba's killing three spikes a year. There has got to be some of you hiding in the shadows. According to some here and one who use to frequent here but, has left bowsite WV about three times now, a sample size of less then 1% is accurate enough to base solid management principles on. When they favor their preconceived wishes. So, fess up fellas. You are out there. We know because we were told as much.
hunterj, before you read this and potentially misunderstand this post, let me be the first to congratulate you! Awesome work and, some nice deer. But, most here probably don't see it that way. At least most of the regular 10 posters on WV bowsite. Because you didn't one and done it or, you shot your legal limit of bucks. To them, you are a dumb bubba gump shooting their deer. Simply too ignorant to know better. If you doubt any of that, just look back through old threads to see for yourself.
So, understand while you have done no wrong or, owe no one an apology, you are likely already labeled. Sharing your enthusiasm of such a great season falls short of all but a few of us here. The last two deer were made for buicks, fords, chevy's, toyota's, etc..... Not to be killed legally, ethically, and to grace your table with nutrition.
Yes, hunting season is over. And, I'm in the mood to continue where we left off. So, lets mark this thread up as an experiment among fellow hunters with differing ideas. And, lets keep it on the front page high up to be sure all the Bubba's see it. To give the rowdy bunch a chance at proving what they claim.
Wvmountaineer,
Why are you pre-emptively predicting that someone will chastise another hunter? Playing the victim card before a crime or atrocity was committed?
I could care less what the gentleman killed. Proud of him. Don't insinuate that someone will chastise him. Its rather silly.
I did notice 2 of 3 buck where taken on urban hunts that makes it even better , Great Season
Mountaineer I am big boy and can take it. I shoot what makes me happy do not really care what others say. I understand we’re you came from the post and trust me I have had my share of pm on here and on Fb. But I just let it roll off. I hunt my butt off every year and will continue to do so. And shoot what is legal. I have been checked many of time because people can not mind there own business. The city hunt tags does not count against my state tags and people can not leave it alone when I kill my 7 deer in the city. And most of the time I do not shoot more then 1 buck a year outside of the city but if another nice buck would have gave me a shot I would take it. And thanks to the other for the congrat.
I see nothing wrong with it. I think it's great. These cities want dead deer because they are destructive Bucks are destructive too
HunterJ, great year
....but Mountaineer, you are comparing 2 urban hunts as regular hunts.....Not the same....Want bucks like he has , quit killing immature ones...
hunterj...a BIG thumbs up on a good year. urban hunts are GREAT.
as for the "redneck bubba" comment. that's pretty crude Sir. I know I'm new here but WOW, that's really slamming your fellow Mountaineer, neighbor, family, co-worker and every other person that reads it. if my neighbor kills 3 spike bucks throughout the season and all 3 were legal kills I could care less. it's his option 'according to WV state law' to fill his tags in a legal, ethical manner and if that's the case who the heck are you to criticize?
now, for the original question. 5 bucks last season, 2 on WV state tags, 2 on urban tags, and 1 during an organized state park hunt. and not one was a button buck.
"Wvmountaineer, Why are you pre-emptively predicting that someone will chastise another hunter? Playing the victim card before a crime or atrocity was committed?

It would be if I couldn't go to WV anglers webpage and dig up that same kind of chastising. I wander who's names I'd find on that thread? Should I or should I not do that? Or, should we go back to the original programming and just continue on with the war of words found only on this thread?
donnie, since you are new here, I'll encourage you to look at the names posting in this thread. Then spend about an hour going back through the database and see for yourself the irony in my redneck bubba claims. It will help you understand that I am in 100% agreement with you.
What is the purpose of this thread ? I thought it was just to ask hunters how many bucks and buttons they killed last year. Or was it just posted to try and start disagreement between hunters ?
hoppie, the thread was started to see how many bucks that deer hunters in WV kill on average. Since 1% of deer hunters were polled in the buck management survey and, considered accurate by the statisticians among us, I figured we could do the same here and just extrapolate the results for an accurate count of how many people actually kill two or three bucks a year. I'm surprised at the results really. I might have been wrong earlier.
Because, It seems real funny to me that outside urban hunts, these numbers seem about in line with what the DNR suggest the actual numbers are based on roughly 300,000 sample units. Maybe such a small sample size is fairly accurate. Either way, what is good for one has to be acceptable for the other.
I thought everybody was killing two dinks or more a year. Because I've read it as such on here for about 7 years.
I thought a one and done would do wanders for increasing antler size. Because I have been told so for years here.
I thought that there is no way the DNR is doing a good enough job representing actual harvest numbers. Because I have read differently here for so long.
I was thinking that the DNR must have been cooking the books to make their poor management scheme's look better in the eyes of the public. Because I was told that earlier this year.
I'm starting to think.......
Disagreement is fine and healthy. Because it ensures a diverse approach from subjective people while exposing objectivity in people.
W v mountaineer, When you started this thread , you already knew what most of answers would be. There not a hand full of hunters who read this site. I dont think many Bubbas as you call them read this site .
again, I am new here BUT, If I intend to remain a member I'd like to get an idea of what the agenda is. Is this an ongoing discussion to reduce the buck limit in WV to one per season regardless of weapon? I'm of the opinion that what might work in say, Wetzel County may not be that great for Pocahontas County. I am no expert by far but at some point common sense has to come into play. Is this about money, is this about a VERY small percent of people just wanting it because it sounds good or, is it a handful of people hoping to turn WV into a desired trophy state?
donniehunt, Agenda ? You will find if you are on this site very long , we will discuss any number topics pertaining to hunting whether it be buck tags, doe tags, wild turkey tree stands, trail cameras, compounds bows, recurve bows. crossbows and many more topics We may agree and disagree some topics , But i like to think in the end we are all just hunters and enjoy discussing all that hunting is about.
I normally would put 1 or 0 but this year I changed my goal. After having a stroke2 years ago and open heart surgery a year ago come next week. I worked myself back into bow hunting shape and was determined to enjoy hunting again without worrying about the bucks score or size. So I am proud to say I shot 2 bucks this year. Yes they were small 8 points. And my buddy had to help get them out for me but it felt good to be able to hunt this year.
Huntbow That is great !! Glad you where able to recover from having a stoke and surgery to enjoy hunting again , my hat going off to you as i am sure that was not an easy task . Congrats on your success
That is what hunting is about Huntbow. It really is more fun when you enjoy it.
Come on limbhanger, tell us about the monster buck killed on your farm and give us a pic. Inquiring minds want to know the story.
