Looks like the governor has requested they all resign and she will appoint her own people. I see no downside and hope she gets more hunters instead of cattlemen on board.

I hope you are right, but as daffy as this liberal is, I doubt it...
Link to the request? Where did you see it?

See no downside? NO WAY she'll appoint hunter-friendly folks to the GC. The GC typically leans more toward rancher's interests than hunter's, but trust me there will be a definite down side to this request. Just look at everything else she and the current reign of dems are doing and tell me she's going to somehow make the GC better?!

No downside? You’re clearly as left as she is.

You are better off dealing with the devil you know vs the devil you don't know.

Years back she came to a hunter friendly political gathering and had said she wanted to help hunters but since then She has surrounded herself with extremely left progressives and wildlife activists! say hello to sierra club, defenders of wildlife or the biological diversity commissioners.
If she does hunters right I will be blown away!

She's a liberal. Any questions? The thread title is misleading. I was under the impression the gov has authority to appoint ("her" in this instance) own commissioner's. I'm confused on why she would ask for resignations?

Right, just pink slip them and get on with appointing whoever.

Because Trump asked for resignations.

How in the hell could anyone approve of what she is doing? Just because you don’t draw a tag every year you would rather ruin some of the best hunting in the country with more liberals in control . Cattlemen control some of the biggest sections of land in N.M......because they own it. All the ranchers near me have plenty of hunters on their ground you might have to pay for it but they hunt quality game. Seems like some people won’t be happy until N.M. is OTC for everything and anybody.

Nothing new. I haven't been keeping track but some like Kinzle and Montoya only have 2 years left of their term anyways so it was eventually going to come up. Ask for all resignations happens all the time. They can re-apply should they choose. Would not shock me to see a few return, Salopek for example.

Whoever is right JP. All the Dems who voted for her that like to hunt, are fixin to be in for a rude awakening. We saw it coming the moment she started running for governor......

Anyone hear if they all resigned ? There were some pretty good guys on the game commission, guess she just couldnt stand it.......she’ll probably ban all plastic bags, styrofoam and straws next she said N.M. is going green ....big time. I don’t know if I can stand 4 years of here and her homies.

Isn't there a midterm for NM in 2020? Anyway, all the names of the commissioners have been removed off the game and fish website.

Thanks HDE. Just curious, how does a midterm affect G&F? (I'm not trying to be a jerk, just curious). She's wiping the slate clean on the commission. Some might be back with 4 year appointments. New one's will also get 4 years. We are looking at a 4-3 D. situation (perhaps an Indy also) by statute for at least four years and the commission sets the rules which the Director must follow.

So.......who are the replacements?

Well, I thought giving half of the elk tags to land owners was the bottom, and things would have to improve. My new Backcountry Hunters and Anglers magazine says the following for NM (page 34)- "...bills that could divert hunter/angler dollars to the general fund, and a Game Commission reform that could leave hunters and anglers with just one seat on a seven member commission..." As others above have said, the new governor appears to be no friend of hunters.

Muddy, the bills you referenced were introduced in the Legislature and don't appear to be part of the Governor's agenda. The Game Commission reform bill didn't make it out of the Legislature. The funds diversion bill was passed by the Legislature but line-item vetoed by the Governor. Like her or not, she did us a solid blocking that bill from being passed into law.

Oryx, thanks so much for the update. I was not sure where these stood. Good to learn she did us some good, and I appreciate learning legislature was behind this and not the gov.

That proposed legislation was right out of the liberal CO playbook. Now that DOW was changed to CPW, Colorado hunters and anglers get to pay for a parks division that was essentially bankrupt. Glad that didn't pass here.
