Has anyone started baiting for bears yet? I've started a couple of baits and they are on fire. From what I gather from pictures I had ten different bears visit one bait yesterday. Some really nice boars visiting.
Good time to start, my neighbor and his son are baiting. Kid's first bear tag. Helped him start some baits about 10 days ago. I doubt he has checked them yet. You are going to have some fat bears if you keep those baits stocked all the time.
when I was on the job, our unit got called for an incident, to support a patrol squad,,, anyway, one of the suspects, sprayed a guy, with Bear Spray, I always laugh when I remember that,,,,,,, I can assure you it worked well
It won't last for years after the expiration date. The propellant will but not the OC. I have carried Bear Spray over the years, especially when I was in grizzly country.
I had a couple of canisters that had expired so I tested one out on a black bear here. I sat close to my bait barrels at home and each night the bear would come in to try and get some bait. I heavy snoot full of the spray and all the bear did was take a few steps back and then came back for more bait. I have used effective spray on dogs and bears and their reaction was completely different; running off and rolling their noses into the ground. The canister should be turned over at least a few times a month to keep it well mixed.
I never carry bear spray anymore although sometimes i wish I would've. Had some pants fillers a couple of times over the years. I've been field testing Northwoods Bear Products new Blueberry Fusion spray scent. I had a lot of videos of bears going after the scent rag. The rag I just tie in a small sapling in the forest to see if they'll search it out.
Started my first bait today. I was unable to get the stand placed, but where I'm at the ground is awful mucky yet. I'm going to check back in two weeks to see if they hit it. Looks great!
The bears are rutting like crazy. I had one come to the bait just after I got it baited. He was about eight to ten feet away. Hopefully my camera will have it in video tomorrow when I bait. Here's a short video of boars following sows.
Neighbors kid's baits are all getting cleaned up every week. Today I saw 2 bears crossing the road. One on County B near the Hayward casino campground. The other one was about 15 miles SW of Hayward on 63.
Talking to a guy at our neighbors kids baseball game tonight he said the DNR trapped two nuisance bears near his home. Said they did not get the biggest one by him, he hopes that it will still be there next fall when he should get a tag.
