Hows the fishin going this year?
So far, getting lots of fish nothing decent. 14" and under walleye's and lots of 8" and under gills (most 7 and under) on the flyrod this past weekend, a few brown trout. The best is yet to come.
Winnebago been nice to us this year so far!!!!
My daughters boyfriend took a 54 inch muskie on Saturday, on the Bay, his best........
I have too many projects going, plus chasing turkeys every week,,,,, should be out by next week
High water slowing my trout fishing down
Nice fish Southfarm!!! but, that's cheat'n, your in Canada.
Went with my daughter and her boyfriend to shoot some fish in FL last month.
Groundhunter…..no pic....it didn`t happen.
Capt. Mike......what reel combo does the daughters boyfriend have on his bow? Is that the Muzzy reel?
Got on the WI River about 6 pm . Calm & overcast . 8 pm now . 1 Walleye 18in . 2 Smallies 1 12 in & 1 19 in . 3 pike , 14 , 19, & 32inch . All fish returned to the water .
Nice nite .
By the way Crappies are on their beds . We caught 43 Sat between 10 & 14 inches .kepp 6
sorry Franklin, I could care less about learning how to post a photo here,,,, his fish is on face book which I tell him all the time to stay off of..... He makes great money as a Engineer. but I know he would like to guide....... Did not happen? Yeah right, ,,,,,,,,,
as of June 1 I am off social media myself, too much bs
Come on GH....we want to see the pic. Haven`t seen a nice Muskie in a while.
The lake was boiling tonight, caught 110 bluegills and crappies in about 3 hours on the fly rod...
Not Canada, Live2hunt, but dang close!
Mike, looks like your settling into retirement in good form!
I figured they would be pouring into the shallows. I'm tying up some more fly's this week and by Friday afternoon, I will be on the water chasin gills.
Franklin, he told me that is indeed the Muzzy reel. He added that he has used similar but less expensive ones that seem to perform the same.
Trapper what a awesome dinner!!!
I swear I will learn how to post pics,,, he also just got another 52 and 50 incher,,,, you can follow him on facebook, Grimm Outdoors,,,, me I have no idea of what face book is,,, ha ha
Nice nice Muskey!! The crappies are just Starting, and the Gills are finally starting to come shallow at our cabin in Price County.
Took my Grandson out for a bit on Saturday evening. Walleye and Crappie fry on Sunday.
That is a hell of a fish GH....I would support his dream of being a guide. 3 muskies over 50" is pretty rare.
Good news - Bad news
Good , we caught 3 nice Walleyes tonite .
Bad news , I setup Rod # 1( A St Croix with a Shimano) with a floating Jig & 5 inch shinner. Casted it to a dropoff I like & layed it down . I reached for rod # 2 when # 1 flipped 12 feet in the air & fell into the WI River . GEEZ .
I know better , got lazy .
Franklin,,,,,, my daughter is going to show me how to post,,,,, anyway, he is on facebook, has what is called Grim Outdoors, with about 40,000 followers, along with his buddy,,,,,,,, what I like, is that my daughter, is dating the right kind of guy,,,, that is a win win,,,,, ha ha
I will show him how to catch big brook trout,,,, ha ha
Haven't been out yet, but my son has. First fish he caught with his new setup from Lew's.
Remember Mondays lost of a rod & reel ? Today I stop at a garage sale & buy 4 rod & reel setups plus a pile of lures for $ 6.75 . Really .
Caught a nice 19 incher& a few Crappies .
35 inch Pike tonite . Caught with an ultra lite with 5 lb test . Felt like Moby Dick . Bugs brutal .
Bought a fishing kayak, first day out.
You are a lucky man Ground....you should see the piece of work my daughter is marrying this fall....don`t even get me started.
Franklin, sounds like the son-in-law thing is not starting good!

Slicer, thanks for the opinion, as off-base as it may be. Makes a person wonder how much thought process goes into your other posts? Have you fished Erie? Talked to any biologists out there? Erie is at record high walleye levels, with some slight concern for the forage base, according to a biologist and a tournament fishing friend from Ohio. I guess we need to follow your view on what fish to keep but not worry what weapon a person hunts with? As long as it is legal, of course! ;)
Completely agree with you Capt. Anyone who knows Lake Erie knows there's no shortage of walleye
I didn’t let this one go either.
I didn’t let this one go either.
Nature, I should have just let it go but ignorance is not acceptable when accompanied by arrogance. Tough day on the bay today, 4 keepers, one short and one 26” that went back.
Spawning female walleye produce walleye fry which turn into predators. They do not produce lake shiners, alewife, rainbow smelt or emerald shiners. No matter if the subject is deer, elephants or fish, each species environment has a carrying capacity. The fisheries managers on lake Erie have a fear that the walleye carrying capacity may have been reached and possibly breached. I will not hijack what was a very nice thread any longer. THIS is a logical opinion, supported by fact and reason and without emotion.
Bump, trying to get rid of the crossbow threads
Nice Crappie . Caught this Sunfish along with some Bluegills . Spawning about 3 weeks later than normal .
I had a good weekend with walleye. A lot of 14 - 19" fish, one 27, a 26 and a 25. I thought the 25 was going to be another 30 the way she fought, I almost could not get her to revive. I kept 3 fish out of the bunch, the rest are swimming for another day or a spear.
I went to the dark side and bought a fly rod. I watched a YouTube video on how to cast. I really have no idea what I am doing, but I caught this guy and lost a second when I went out to the local Creek. Fun stuff.
1/2 mile walk in to a remote stream & pond . Caught 2 Brookies & a bruiser Bluegill .
Skeeters horrible , worst in 25 years .
More Lake Erie walleye. Two weeks from the previous trip and still biting just as good or better. An amazing fishery.
Oh my gosh Capt'n!! The lake is gunna crash now! :)
Ruger that's a nice picture funny about the mosquitos though haven't seen a one near me not even by the water
It is funny about the bugs,,,,, wife and I went after trout,,, lake in the UP Iron County MI, 7 to 9pm... some but about usual..... 3 fish all 12 inchers,,,, I would be concerned about trout water, that contains, bluegills though,,,, think about water temps
No concern . Its a 4 ac pond thats fed by a Trout stream & emptys into a Trout stream. 1/2 is 2 to 4 foot deep with lily pads . The other 1/2 is as deep as 35 feet .
I have caught Brookies up to 13 inches, Browns up to 20 inches , 10 inch Gills & a rare Largemouth now & then. .

Lake Erie is one of the best managed Walleye factories on the planet. The states and Canada have changed limits often depending on year classes. That is with Eyes and Perch. There is also a thing on Erie that if the hook and line fishermen don't catch their quota, it gets turned over to the commercial guys. The commercial guys coexist fine on Erie because it is such a factory. Keeping big fish on Erie does not hurt anything. It never has and it never will. I went for 30 years straight out there but prefer Canada now instead. I have some tremendous memories. And wow, some of the trips to Put In Bay were better than being in N'orleans from a party perspective.
I'll be doing the family thing at our place in Three Lakes next week through the 4th. I'll chase Muskies in the evenings. My son and I leave for Canada from there on the 5th for a week.
Happy, it sure is quite the fish factory. And yes, the sheepshead are very fun to catch. Once in a while we will take spinning gear and catch them on light tackle. Lots of fun! Maybe even as fun as that Apple Pie looks!

My fishing partner and I won our high school get together tournament. I hosted it by my place. We all go out and catch what we can for the evening fishfry My Buddy and myself had 10 Walleyes, 4 Crappie, 1 Perch, 1 Whitebass and a bonus Catfish. Sure was great to see guys and their wives from highschool 45 years ago.

We were all rod-in-hand "wormers" out on Erie using light gear. I am personally not a fan of trolling for Eyes. We always used a charter out there because I had my Lake Michigan boat for 30+ years too (that was my trolling fix) and wanted a vacation where I could chill and have fun and let others do the work. I had captain friends on Erie and used to swap trips with them on Lake Michigan.
There were locals out there who took the big drum and took and the stones out of their heads and made jewelry with them. Up in the shallow Canadian waters, we used to get into a lot of bigger catfish too which were a hoot. I loved working the shallow rocks in Canadian waters.
the 3 fish limit is stupid,,,, they should put a slot size on, and they should be more careful on the spawn,,, oh yeah that's right, it would screw up all the tournaments, which is how the fishery is being managed for
Caught a 4 lb. 10 oz. Largemouth on Lake Marie Tuesday with my club. No pics but it put me in second place with twelve guys fishing.
I recently saw something about the walleye and smallmouth bass fishing on LK Superior by Ashland. I had no idea that was such a good fishery. I might have to check that out someday.
Getting heat down south. Fishing slowing down.
You been fishing Wisconsin for a while, Slicer?
Well trappers probably not interested in those minnows but it's a nice gesture slicer
As we know , Trout fishing is great right after a thunderstorm . 90 minutes of fishing remote streams & ponds resulted in Brookis , Rainbows & 2 Largemouth Bass .
Kept the Bass to get them out of the Trout ponds .

This is what it looked like at the original resort on day 1 in some smoke. By dinner time, you could not see shore.
This is what it looked like at the original resort on day 1 in some smoke. By dinner time, you could not see shore.
So, my Canada trip with my son was changed after 2 days when we were evacuated out of the resort by the MNR due to some blazing wildfires. Sprinklers were setup on the resort. He and I had just boated our 39th Eye of the early morning when we were chased down by boat. There were times fishing where you could not see 10' in front of the boat due to smoke. Most of the 1st day it seemed like a heavy haze covering the lake.
Our group reconvened in Red Lake and I found a place on Eagle Lake that would take my group of 6. Eagle Lake has Muskies but we had no Musky gear. We had our Bass sized rods and smaller Pike baits as our resort 1hr north of Red Lake only has Pike (and Eyes). Eagle Lake is 70 miles long and 68k acres. What a daunting task ahead of us. We did find some nice humps and got our Eyes with bonus Perch. While casting for Pike, we found a few Skis too with my son getting the biggest. I did lose an upper 40" Ski and we raised a few others. What a hoot catching on Bass sized rods.
We turned chicken shit into chicken salad best we could. I just wish we had our Musky gear with us.
Happy, what a great trip it ended up being for you. Nice Musky's! I bet those were fun on light gear. I have tussled with a few 40" fish on spinning gear and flyrods, they do not give up. It's a big difference between light and musky gear fighting those fish.
We were escorted through really dense smoke.

That is all smoke from the fire 6km away. It was not easy on the lungs.
That is all smoke from the fire 6km away. It was not easy on the lungs.
Live, that's why we take the smaller gear to Canada on the Pike lakes where we know our Musky gear would be fine. I have 3 Lews combos which are great with the smaller baits. Even the smaller Pike make the rods bend well. I do wish I had our Musky gear on Eagle Lake though as I really wish I had the bigger profile baits.
A guy caught a 51" Ski as we pulled into the dock on our last day when he saw it chasing a duck. He grabbed a Musky rod and it hit a double cowgirl on his 1st cast towards it. He was the hit of the dock!
We love the resort we are at and it hurt like hell knowing we had to leave. As I noted, we just boated our 39th Eye in less than 1.5hrs that morning. Our group already had a 37.5" Pike on day 2 and I already had 3 over 30". But, we did salvage something. It was scary cruising such a huge lake with so many rock hazards. We were driving 30-45 minutes by boat to get to areas we were pointed to by the resort people. Luckily we all had GPS and luckily gas was included in our rate. We are now all hoping our resort is spared from the 2 big fires (one is 44k hectares and the other is > 30k hectares) which are around 6km and 10km away. Neither is under control yet. I check the Ontario fires website daily to see what is happening.
The picture is us stopped at the road on the way out by the MNR and OPP waiting for an escort. There were multiple helicopters dropping water on both sides of the road so we could drive our vehicles out and not have to be flown out leaving our stuff behind.
Nice fish Happy!! I've spent time up by Red Lake moose hunting and one fishing only trip. Don't get there enough it seems but truly love Canada and hope for many more Canadian trips as the kids are almost out of the house.
A couple of wildlife pics. The fox is always at the resort and eats out of your hand. The bear was just on the side of the road.
Happy, I fished on Pakwash lake up there before, great fishing.
He couldn't leave well enough alone.

Caught a 20 in Smallie last week . Last night I caught a 1.5 inch Smallie on a little Cleo. That's a badass Smallie .
That's a brute Glen!

We did well on Lake Superior Saturday AM. 7 lakers in about 3 hours of trolling from 17-24 with one nice 32 incher for the smoker (tried reviving it but it was a no go).
Hooked this nice driftwood last week . If anyone needs it for a project let me know .
I'm going to chalk hills flowage tomorrow. Never been there. Any pointers? :)
First catfish on Lake Michigan in over 40 years of fishing. Caught 10 miles offshore in 220 feet of water trolling a spoon at 3.2 mph.
Unbelievable Mike! No PCBs in the puppy. LOL
Holy crap Mike. I fished the Pond for over 30 years before giving it up 5 years ago and I had never even heard of one of those caught offshore. I could see in the harbor when people are fishing Browns or darkies in the late summer, but off shore. As far as eating quality, like Lakers and Browns, that one would not pass my lips.
Remember the discussions years ago on GLA with Sharkman and his rigger balls that imitated wounded bait fish? Good times...
Happy, I do remember! With 37 years as a charter captain and 5 before, I have never heard of or caught a catfish out in the lake. It fought well and I was surprised as heck as I was netting it. I guess it just proves that we never know what we might encounter any time we venture into the outdoors.
How cold do you figure the water was at that depth? Figured they'd stay closer to warmer/shallower waters.

Finally got my first Chinook on fly rod in a small tributary. One heck of a fight. Getting ready to make salmon candy.

First steelhead of the year. 24"
Where you at? Must be down by Mil. or Racine.
Yep, right in that area. Can't wait to go back out again. They put up an insane fight.
Steelhead are a blast, I fish the Brule by Superior most of the time. I have been down there fishing also, it is fun, but the scenery is much better on the Brule.
Have not been out much this winter. Tough travel conditions on the lakes up north. I do have a few trips coming up and will make the most of them. I did get in one weekend with my son in Jan.
Very cool ranger! Someday I would like to make the trip. Curious how they taste?
and as much as I like to fish,,, is this bowsite or Lake Link
West Alaska Lake. Kewaunee Co
That expression is Priceless ridgerunner! I was in a one man trap with my oldest daughter after preschool one day and caught a small pike while fishing for sunnies, she was not expecting a pike to come through the hole and she clawed her way over my shoulders to the back of the house screaming. Haha
Thanks Mnhunter Thats my grandson and my son ,Lots of fun You should see some videos we have of him on some deer recoveries from last bow season Gonna have to figure out how to post videos one of these winter days
Just having fun...great pics. Anxious to fish steelhead.
Delicious combo there dusktildawn!
Yes indeed. Did rainbows and perch this weekend.

Finally got a carp on the fly rod. Great fight on the 4wt rod with 3.3 lb 6x tippet .
I brought the pole to a job site on palmyra lake and would walk out on the dock from time to time. Every cast produced a bass or crappie.
Rude, that is a nice NP. I am moving to NE Crawford Co upon my retirement, the Mississippi is about 45min west of me. I will have to check it out, I knew there are walleye and bass but didn't realize the NP were there as well.
Bill
A husband and wife are out at a fly in fishing cabin, and the husband lays down for an afternoon nap because he has been out since early morning.
His wife takes a good book out and runs the boat out to a point, anchors and procedes to read and work on her tan. A game warden flies in and taxis over to the boat. He stops and asks to see her fishing license. She tells him she has no license because she is not fishing, but reading. hE TELLS HER THAT SHE HAS EQUIPMENT IN THE BOAT FOR FISHING AND THAT SINCE HE HAS suspicions that means she has been fishing since she has the equipment neccessary to do so. She must follo him to the shore where she will be charged with fishing without a license.
She tells him that if he charges her because of that, she will charge him with sexual assault.
He is dumbfounded and asks her what she is talking about. Her response solves the problem.
Well sir, you have all the equipment necessary to sexually assault me, and I suspect that is your intention since you have the equipment necessary to commit the crime.
He flies awy with no charges laid, proving once again that one should never underestimate a woman who loves the outdoors and also reads.
Upnorth - Nice Musky! How long was he?
Novice, gotta love fresh fried trout. Upnorth, nice musky!!! Wish the DNR didn't remove the brunt of them out of the lake I'm on. Still pissed about that.
Live-Why were the muskies removed?
Been on the meat! All gently released
The youngsters have been getting it done this year. I love guiding families and seeing the kids get hooked on fishing
To make it short, the lake association had a meeting and the DNR came and past out survey's on what fish is more important to the people on the lake. Well, it came out that some idiots were thinking that the Musky were eating all the panfish and the panfish were more important and musky were the bottom (Only to the ones who happen to be at that meeting that just so happened to have the DNR do this). The DNR sent out a letter stating they will start structuring the lake as more of a panfish lake. I was pissed so say the least. I called Jeff Scheirer, emailed, anything possible to voice mine and many other opinions on don't do anything to this lake, leave it like it is. Well, the next year they were doing alot of wink wink, shocking survey's, and fike nets were out around the lake. The year after that? we went from a class A musky lake to a basically no musky lake. I know they removed most of them because they just don't disappear like that. Then what happens? well the Largemouth bass pop. explodes, they wreck your 100% Natural reproducing walleye fishery by loosing multiple year classes of fish, and the lake goes to crap. Now, no musky, planted walleye, panfishery went to crap (not sure what happened there), and we have to try and kill all the largemouth we can. Scheirer wont even talk to me anymore so I don't have great things to say about him. The whole thing pisses me off. So, do everything possible to not let the DNR "Fix" your lake.
Had a great week fishing the Three Lakes chain. The Muskies moved well. I got a 47" but fought and lost one that was a click north of it. It was a longest I have fought a Musky that I lost. I've caught bigger, but they all sting when they toss the bucktail back at ya. My son got a couple during the afternoon out solo. He takes a pic with them in the net and then extended out (he would not do that with a real big one). We need to get setup with a timer on a camera for his solo runs.
Here's a 39" and a 35" my son got solo. The net pics are the best he can do. The pics of him holding the fish out don't do the trick.
I caught these pannies off the pier one afternoon enjoying the sun to add to my son's college apartment fish fry fund. That is the 1st Rock Bass I have ever kept. It was gut hooked and I figured these are college kids who will be drinking beer anyway and won't know better :).
Planning my fourth trip to Erie for the season. An amazing fishery!
Good luck Mike. We used to go there the 2nd week of July for decades until I switched to Canada (not happening this year). We are not trollers (we prefer rod-in-hand fishing) and fished the Canadian waters off Pelee Island. So much fun up there fishing the rock humps and some pretty skinny water at times. The Smally fishing up there is damn good too. The goats run really large!
Happy, never fished the Canadian waters but might on this next trip. Trolling is very easy, although as good as the fishery is, all methods produce really well. We had lots of fun just drifting and casting little Cleo’s, crocodiles and zips. Yes, those sheepies run big and put up a good fight. Same for some of those bigger catfish we get occasionally. I used to go just for the smallmouth fishing. Enjoy your summer and the fishing.
Fished out of Port Washington with my son Zac Thursday.
Boy, been doing good on walleye's till last week when I was on vacation all week. The hot weather kicked my ass physically and fishing wise. The water temp jumped to 84-87 deg's on the lake we are on. All I could find were 15" and under eye's. I get a bumpy rash from the heat/sun so ended up inside the air conditioning during the mid day. I HATE THE HEAT!!! don't know how and why anyone would want to live in this crap down south. Glunker, that trout looks great.
Nice lakers, got my mouth watering.
Nice Kings there Glunker. Glad to see some Kings in Port. Too many greasers getting caught across all the ports. I sold my Lake Michigan boat in 2015 and really haven't missed it.
Most exciting fish I have caught in a while . The pie plate Bluegill fought like 20 inch Smallie on the ultra lite w/ 4 lb test .
That bluegill has the color of a tropical fish. I doubt I have ever caught one that large.
Ruger, where was that? I'd love to pull that through a hole in the ice!!!
Ruger1022, what a gorgeous looking fish
11 3/3 inch . Took 2 hands to hold her . Caught 8 others 8 - 10 inches . Kept 5. WI River between Merrill & Tomahawk .
I did put her back in the water . With my new printer I was able send the pic from my phone & the 8x10 print was waiting for me when I got home .
Awesome. I used to ice fish Black Duck in northern Minnesota and we would catch fish like that. Just a beautiful fish
MJF, my friend fished Black Duck and Elephant lake for gills. He said it was phenomenal. Elephant had 12" gills. I would love to ice fish those lakes also.
Live2hunt, it was amazing even for crappie
Got talked into making some fly's for trolling for salmon and trout . These are my first attempt the two on the right are top bear with glow flash the one below it baboon with glow flash . Top left is all bear bottom left is all baboon .If you see this can the person that sent me the bear hide pieces send me a message so I can thank them for some reason the messages are gone and so is the thread or at least I can't find it .
Nice Ruger. I was out on the 6th and we had similar results with the largest stretching 11. We had again about 5 more in the 8-10 range and a lot more a little smaller. We could do no wrong Monday even the larger base were all hitting great. Not what I was expecting for the hot weather and surface temps of 85 in the water. We caught them from 2-15feet.

Early morning. Kayaks with the wife
Right when the sun comes up.
Nicely done grape- do you fry them with shore lunch?
Nope....Andy’s....and you’re 60....now was that so hard??
Not sure what you mean but happy eating.
You need to try Andy’s seasoning (Fleet Farm). It’s a great fish seasoning. And a long time ago, I started a thread about “ how old are the guys on this site” ? You gave me a lot of shit about it. You thought I was some troll or something. You probably don’t remember. I read every day, but don’t comment much....the other day you started the “ thread on stands”( think that was it).....said you were 60!!!!!! I guess patience is a good thing...have a good weekend! Greg
Great job filleting those grape.
I always mixed shore lunch with fryin magic. Have try that Andy’s

Lake Superior was good to us a couple weeks ago.
Are Superior's greasers better eating than Lake Michigan's? I could never bring myself to let a brown or a greaser pass my lips on Lake Michigan. Ironically, decades ago I would purposely fish for greasers on the Hills off Racine and we'd get some really big ones. I'd get them smoked and give them to my parents to bring to the American Legion in Three Lakes for Packer games. My goal was to turn over the average age of the town.
Superior has some big Lakers. I hope to get out for them before the summer is over.
We usually will eat a couple smaller ones fresh and I smoke a couple mid-size ones every year and we think they eat very well. Once frozen they weren't so great, but we always enjoyed eating them fresh or smoked. We usually throw anything over 28 or 30" back, that's an oooold fish.
Happy, pretty much my sentiments also. I will smoke a few smaller lakers but never will I eat a brown.
Is there any point of fishing in the later afternoon to early evening right now on inland waters? (other than to kill time)
Tweed, we've actually had decent Musky action in the afternoons and early evening. Last time out which was this past weekend up north, my son and I each got small Ski's prior to 6pm. We seem to at least see a fish on our afternoon runs. You can't catch 'em from your couch. We're heading back up on Friday. Up until last weekend we gave the Skis a rest for a couple of weeks due to water temps being too high. They postponed a couple of weeks of the Musky leagues and some guides were cancelling clients. I don't like fishing them when temps get around 77. The temps had dropped to 75 last weekend with all the storms and colder nights.
Chequamegon Bay yesterday.
I took a friends of mine son on a Cast & Blast (fishing for a few hours then rifle range time) Only fish we caught were channel cats on sub walks. Now his friends got all excited after getting field texts and want to do cast and blasts too. Looks like it will be a busy summer now.
Beaneater what is a sub walk? Way to get the kids involved , channel cats are a blast
It's a Rapala glide bait lure runs just under the surface. We were trying to catch bass and caught nothing but cannel cats. We shot rifles, shotguns, and muzzleloaders. Next group I'll try to get to a bow range . Got to think of a catchy title. Quills and Gills maybe.
My fishing has took a dumper, first year in many I am struggling. It started great, then the high water temps hit and now just small walleye. We are struggling to even get decent gills for fish fry's. I think with the high water temps and too much rain, there is a lot of feed out there. Nice fish Mike, too much time on your hands yet? The smelt is what gives those Lakers a bad taste. We ice fished them in Canada and lakes without smelt had great eating none fatty Lakers. The ones with smelt had terrible Lakers with lots of fat. If I was trolling Superior, I would try to target Coho's, those are great eating.
The boy and I found a small creek while out exploring and decided to cast a line and see what was out there. He got this little fella on his second cast.
Trout fishing in the UP, has been getting worse, since all of the rain,,,,, going to switch to muskies, at night, and walleyes for awhile........ hope to get back at the trout in about a month, there is a lot of water,,,,,
Still catching bluegills with fly rod
FISHING LESSON # 27
Never walk 20 ft out on a floating log to get to your Brook Trout hot spot & Sneeze violently while casting . GEEZ .
Sorry about the dip ruger but that's a great photo.
Ruger that story reminded me of when I was a kid 150 years ago and jumped from the bank of the lake onto a beaver house so I could get to the fish way out there...
Well when I landed pretty close to waters edge, there sat a big water moccasin about 4 feet from me.
Ever see Mark Spitz or Phelps swim with a fishing pole? I couldnt get outa there fast enough.
Looks like a nice flat log to walk out on, was the water cold? LOL.
I know a guy that last week caught and released a tiger trout. It was in SW Wis. Good photo of it, in his net. Good measurement, but not official. Trout released, never was taken out of net. I told him the state record is a little over 17 inches, like his was, he may have had the record....... going to do a replica from the photo........ He did not know what he had.......... caught on a drunk and disorderly streamer..............
I was smart enough to leave my pistol & Phone on the shore . I was stuck in 18 inches of black muck& 2 ft of water for several minutes. At 74 this stuff is getting a bit more challenging.
Well, at least you knew there was a good chance you were going in. I've done that ice fishing before. The one time after just killing the big gills, we got back to the truck only to have 25' of open water between the ice and the shore. Yep, got wet on that one. Same thing, 6" of water and 2' of muck.
Ruger about 30 years ago I was fishing the spring holes up in Jones Pond area, back then, it was really nice. I went out in a Orvis Float Tube and new latex waders, that cost me a weeks pay. I always had a knife on a rope by the shoulder, and good thing I did.
I got stuck in mud, which was like quick sand, trying to come out of some nice water, to get out. I was stuck for over an hour, and it got serious when I discovered I was really sinking. I was able to get the tube off of me, push it forward, and crawl, little by little. The waders I had to cut myself out of $$$$$$$$$$, and work my way out with the tube. It took me 3 hours. No one knew where I was at, but of course I was younger then......................
I am as careful as I can be, but I like my spring ponds, and found some dandies in the UP............. stay well
We do have some nice catfish but these little fellas are pretty abundant and fun to catch.

I like these falling in the water stories. This guy and two teenage boys are my only competition in the backyard pond. He moved in about a week after we did!
Musky fishing continues to be good for me and my son. We boated 5 this past weekend and lost 4 and saw 6 others. Unfortunately, that was my son's last hurrah at Skis as he's back to college next week. Here's hoping he finds time for a couple/few bowhunting weekends.
Great fish Happy. Congrats to you and your son.
