You might have heard talk of expanding hunting opportunities on National Wildlife Refuges. I believe the three in MA on the proposed list are Mashpee, Monomoy, and Parker River.

Do you know what the process is like for this to happen? I'm not sure about the other two, but the Parker River one has some incredible habitat and is loaded with deer. I think they have recently begun doing one of those strictly organized hunts. I'm sure there would be some backlash to totally opening them up.

They have been conducting a controlled deer hunt on the Parker River NWR for well over the past 20 years. They run a good hunt but it is definitely in the maintenance stage (for a controlled hunt), with corresponding low annual success rates.

Fished the Parker river/ plum island a bunch a few yrs ago. Deer and fox , it was rare not to see them. Very cool terrain. I’m supprised the success rate is low.

Thanks for clarifying, nauti. I was actually thinking about The Ipswich river sanctuary.

More opportunities is good, hope it plays out well.
