Cache creek bull tag

My buddy’s son drew this tag for west of clear creek. Found out tonight so he’s just getting started. Any advice besides talking to the biologist and lots of scouting? They’re in sacramento so scouting won’t be an issue.
This is a rifle tag. 2nd weekend in October.

Should be a slamdunk...I see those elk on a regular basis, right off Hwy 20. Some good bulls taken there over the Years.

That’s what I figured. I told him to make a season of it. Put out some cheap trail cameras and have fun because the hunt might be short.

I also see them off of hwy 20 at the lake county line. That is a wildlife area that is open to hunting. Also quite a bit of BLM in the area. Quite a few feral hogs are in the area too. A number of times I saw a few naked earth muffins in the mineral water near Wilbur Springs, but that endeavor is separate and distinct from elk hunting.
