LO tags?

So, new to all this-- Been wanting to finally hunt for once in my life. Heard about left over tags in NM but was wondering if there's any tips for them? I know getting on early... but I'd love to get a tag this year.

Leftover tags are for units that didn’t sell out mostly for deer and not in prime units, first 24 hours of the sale is resident only after 24 hours its open to anyone . LO tags should be out in a week or two and they are the tags that are sought after and the good elk units will sell fast and for a lot of money.

As additional clarification to jdee's post, most of us think land owner when we see LO.

I saw LO and automatically was thinking land owner tags.. not left over tags.

There are only 4 left over elk tags for mobility impaired hunters in unit 9. Everything else is archery deer or youth antelope. It is better to put in for the draw than bank on left over tags.
