:) Bahhhh! Sorry, fun trip with the fam to southwick zoo, and this Elk was a stud, had to share a pic with other antler lovers!
If you go though, do NOT do the "sky ride" which is basically a chair lift that does a big, maybe 15' ride over much of the park about 30-40 feet up. My daughter loves it. She loves me. She wants me to go, so I do, because I love her... And then I get off and kiss the earth repeatedly after nearly having a heart attack the whole time. She gets mad at me for squeezing her so tight so she can't fall out (you could lift up the safety bar and jump out anytime - it doesnt latch, it just folds over the top) every time we have done it... Tough nuggies little girl! ha ha ha!
Being the hunter I am, as soon as I saw where they were bedded, I checked the wind. Interestingly, they were just down from the top of the ridge, wind at their backs, eye's forward in the direction where our "train" ride, and any people would come from.
Text book, well, except for the train :)
Good reminder that these critters like to bed, slightly down a hill top, wind at their backs and eyes looking over areas they can not smell. Good thing to have in mind for hunting around here (or anywhere).
