Im going on my 3rd trip to CO this September. Probably a little diff in PA, as far as their home range. You have to play the thermals constantly in big mtn country, but their behavior is prob similar. Early season try bugle locator calling and hunt them like big turkeys that can wind you, lol. If you have meadows that they frequent, scout them and plan an ambush especially early season. Get good at 70 yds (although my only shot so far, was 18 yds lol) . Remember its easy to push a whole herd on to another mountain in one day. Working the thermals and constantly checking the wind is vital.

I've been twice, Wyoming and Colorado. Still on my hit list, hopefully for 2020. Not to familiar with PA's hunt but if you want a great bowhunting adventure I'd suggest you hunt out west. good luck.

I've not gone, but Elk are on my list of "Before I die I will hunt you" critters. I'd think PA would be a blast, but bring snake boots and watch your step... (search main forum for the thread from the guy last year that got bit by a timber rattler scouting, almost a year later and he still has some issues, lucky man to be alive!)
Despite that, if I thought I could swing the time in the fall, I'd do it. Taz, confirmed my suspicions with his comment above... That call/stalk approach just sounds super fun, whether you get one or not!

We went just this past wk end and saw 7. 4 bulls and 3 cows. As far as drawing a tag its next to impossible. I think theres about 125 tags this yr. about 98 cow and 27 bull tags. Application fee is 10.70 then 250 for a non resident tag if you draw plus a PA big game lic. Also you are required to use a guide. Dont hold me to all this as i just started researching it myself. My camp is about 2 hr drive from prime elk territory. I think i remember something about 50,000 people apply. Pretty much snowballs chance in hell for drawing a tag. But 10.70 aint bad for a lottery ticket.

I'm making real tentative plans to go out west next year, leaning towards Idaho. I'm not sure if anyone else was at the BHA film showing in NH last week, but seeing those bulls screaming their faces off got me pumped up!
