There is a discussion of a bunch of important issues to "us" tonight at MDFW headquarters in Westboro. I am behind the 8 ball and just learned of this. Regrettably my wife works late and I can not go tonight, which stinks. The more of us are in there the better. That said, ping your legislators in support of this!
And DO NOT be put off and assume they wont support it due to political affiliation. Based on record alone, it would be easy to suggest Anne Gobi (for example) is the biggest supporter of hunters, fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts overall in the entire government here, and she's a D. I note this not to start a fight, but because where I learned of this, a few guys acted like D's would never pass it... yet they are the ones PUTTING IT OUT THERE! So screw the political affiliations, if you want to reduce set backs during archery or gain Sundays, speak up about this. There are a bunch of other things attached, so review the link for more details... The more noise we make, politely, every time this stuff comes up, the better our long term odds of actually making progress - even if this fails.
Keep well folks, Will
Holy crap they have trapping on there, moose hunting, 250 feet to a house with bow, artificial lights for coyote hunting. Wow if all this stuff passes I may actually enjoy hunting in MA!
You guys can't hunt on Sundays? What is the reasoning behind not hunting on Sundays.
slingNsticks, old blue laws were set up with no hunting on Sunday's (day of worship)... Most of those have been eliminated, but hunting, thus far, has not.
It's been a bit contentious, with many hunters not wanting it. I'll admit I have focused on saying bow only, and that's only after slowly coming around to it. But at this point, I say just get this up for a shot at a vote as many times as possible, eventually we will have progress.
Spike - no joke. I saw the moose thing and about pooped myself. If that ever passes Ill be applying for that lotto tag every year!
a moose season would be awesome! I, personally, would love to be able to bowhunt Sundays...
I guess I understand the day of worship I did not think about that. But if your a working man that cuts your hunting down to one day a week and that's crazy. The only thing you can't do in Mo. on Sunday's is buy beer or whiskey before 11 am in stores or the drive thru. and I think that is just to make sure you get to church. I work four ten hour days so I am lucky and get to hunt three days a week I could not imagine only hunting one I hope it passes for you guy's good luck.
If we couldn't get sunday hunting, I would love to see the season open up 2 weeks earlier out this way.
If five people show up to this, they'll consider it landslide support. No I'm not kidding.
I wish I could have gone, this was the first I had heard of it. 12:30 seems like a strange time for a hearing like this to be held. Is the time on that link correct?
Joe,
Not sure. I saw the date and knew I couldnt go, so I didnt look at the logistics more. The last one of these I attended was like 2 PM. No kidding, there had to be 100 folks there.
Folks said that was not the norm, but it was good to see.
“Sunday bow hunting.” It says. Edit- then it goes on just to say all deer hunting. There’s a lot of cool rules. They proposed to make it illegal for someone to jump into your line of fire to block a shot to save an animal.
Will, glad to hear about the good turnout.
Noob, it's scary that has to be put into law, that means someone whacko has actually done that.
whats the word ? Anybody ?
There was not a vote, just a forum for folks to voice favor or not. I read an article in the telegram which showed good commentary from Sen Gobi and a few other legislators there... The article wrapped up with a woman from oxford discussing how one day per week where people can fight obesity in the woods safely should not be taken away, and that a tax could maybe be used to fund some of the mdfw stuff... ha ha ha! She sounded nice, based on her comments. Sounded to be a fine person. But needs to brush up on what pays for all of mdfw :) ha ha ha!
I thought it was a good point though. This was a reasonable sounding person, who has no clue how things like wildlife management areas, MDFW staff etc are paid for. Heck, eagles, turkeys, salamanders, turtles etc... all helped and studied on our dime. That message needs to be out there... That "we" are the keystone of conservation and a big player in environmentalism overall.
