The grandchildren came by today. I had bought my grandson, William who’s eight, a new 17" ILF riser and he was eager to give it a go. He's been shooting a while with an old fiberglass bow I’ve had since I was a kid. I did have to grind a shelf and sight window on the other side, as he’s a lefty. His sister, Sophia, who’s seven decided she wanted to shoot too. A few little tests and I found out she’s left-eyed too. So... we started her on William’s old bow.
We had a blast. They didn’t want to quit and said they were coming back on Saturday to shoot some more.

Jimmy you are wearing out the center of that deer target. Or maybe the grandkids are. I love the lil girl in the dress shooting a bow. Can't wait for grandkids. ;)

The little guy was putting about all his thru that hole. You should have seen the look on Sophia's face when she put one thru it--PRICELESS.

Great stuff Jim! I have three granddaughters that love to shoot with me. I bought each of them their own Samick Sages. Awesome!

Beautiful pictures, Jim. They touched me especially today. Today I have been a bit nostalgic (well, actually a lot). Ellen and I were on a little camping trip to Lake Hope State Park in Ohio and the couple next to us had three little boys. Watching their dad interact with them brought back wonderful memories of having my own little boy and girl to take on camping trips. On the drive home I was really occupied with those memories and a bit of a lump in my throat. Now even my grandsons who used to traipse around with me to bow shoots are grown and moved away. I miss those times so much. You guys who have youngsters to raise, make the most of every opportunity to spend time with them. They grow up way too fast. First thing you know one morning you and your wife will be looking across the table at each other and realize some seats are now empty and you'll wonder where did the years go.
A verse of scripture comes to mind--Proverbs 17:6, "Children's children are the crown of old men, and the glory of children is their father."

Dave I know what you mean. I have one daughter and I remember taking her fishing and with me to find my deer. She never hunted but went with me to find deer. I would find the deer and come back to the house to get her to help me. This was all good until she got to be about 15. Things changed a little then. But she has always been pro hunting and is glad she was raised in WV. She has WV pride. She now lives in Orange County California in the heart of antihunters . She stands her ground and does not let anyone talk bad of hunters. In fact she has been know to tell guys she knows that if they are not doing it the hard way they are cheating. LOL. I couldn't help but notice Jim's granddaughter all dressed up in her dress and her ribbon in her hair shooting a bow. That is a WV girl. I loved those pics. It brought back memories. It is natural to feel a little sad when you see that and your kids are grown. Great stuff.

... and it doesn't end--thank goodness. Today the little guy wanted to shoot a few in the "repaired" target by the house, then, hit the range--until we got to the bobcat, that is. I'll bet he shot it 30 times.

It's a 17" wood ILF riser (made in China--$89.00 shipped) and a set of medium Samick limbs I've had for several years--60" bow.
