Are deer similar to bass?

Yes they prefer “edge” cover but for the complete opposite reason as bass. One is a predatory species and one is a prey species.

Like Longbeard said, much the same but for different reasons. The sign tells you they are using the spot, but probably not during daylight. You want to set up further into the woods at a transition spot in the evening. A spot they will wait and browse on the way to hitting the fields at dark. Same for morning for when they leave the fields. I rarely hunt food sources or bedding areas, I like the transition trails. Coming and going. Sometimes the same stand is good for AM and PM, other times it's one or the other. The may use one trail to go to feed, then another to go to bed, depending on wind, pressure, etc. By hunting the trails it also gives you more time to set up...usually. If you hunt directly on the food source, eventually you are going to bump them and turn them nocturnal. Most of us are playing checkers against chess masters.

Deer love edges. Cover, is a reason... Food too - edges tend to have more browse and other lush food for them to eat. The more edges come together, the more deer will likely travel that area.
Some edges are soft - a 90 degree stone wall meeting where hemlocks meet oaks/hardwoods is a good example.
