Anyone going to the Elk Expo in Benezette 17 to 18 August?
I'm probably gonna make a long day trip out of it prob on the 17th.
I just realized a couple days ago that I will be out in that part of the state that week. Think I will stop in on the way home and check it out on Sat. and then stay for the LIVE Elk Tag Drawing on the 18th.
Now that they have an archery tag I put in. May go up on the 18th just to hear my name called.
I seen the feed from a few years ago and it looks maddening with that size of crowd. Would be cool to hear your name, but alas I am -0- fer 16 tries. Maybe I will get an archery tag...
I was thinking the same thing Chris.................................................... ;-)
We could have a Bowsite Meet-n-Greet like they do for the P&Y Convention. : )
BTW, there is a good article about the elk and the Elk Hunt in the July issue of PA GAME NEWS.
I would love to go, but I may have something going on. But won't know till about a week before.
Typically, the drawing for the 100+ tags is saturday afternoon. KECA raffle tag drawing is Sunday. Crowds are not bad at all. Have been up a couple times.

Thanks for the heads up, Todd! Looks like the PGC Elk Tag drawing will be at 1pm on SATURNDAY and the KECA raffle tag drawing is 1pm on SUNDAY. See link for the schedule:
Guess they haven't updated their site in a few years! ;-)

Not sure how you found the 2017 schedule but it is 2019 when you click their '2019 Schedule of Events' at https://www.elkexpo.com/. Maybe googled for elk expo schedule and it took you to old one??
Yep- googled the KECA website and didn't notice it was an old link.
I see they now have a "LIVING WITH SNAKES" presentation on Saturday...................................I'll be sure to skip that one!
Figured you'd be on stage.
That would be if it was titled “How NOT to live with snakes!” ;-)
Lol, you're living proof.
16 points and counting..1 for archery, and 1 for late season... Wish my odds were better. And wish they limited out of state to a %.. too.
How do you know you have 1 for archery and late season John? They haven't even been drawn yet.
I bought points this year. I'm headed to CO in October. It would be my luck that I'd draw an archery tag and not have enough vacation time to go.
I'll be CHUCK BAUGHN this year if that happens Chuck! ;-)
Rut, meaning I put in for this one already, which means we get at least one point. I would however welcome the opportunity to not get issued any points because I was drawn... But an -0- fer 16 in the regular tag makes it even less likely.
Listen for my name call me from the crowd! ??????
Ok Bill! If I know anybody who gets drawn, I’ll post it here. ;-)
No cell service at the elk expo so you won't be able to post anything. Gonna have to wait for the call :)
LOL! That’s right!
Bill- lend me your IN-REACH and I’ll text you! ;-)
It’s what I should have had last year! ;-)
I applied last year but have zero points. Why is that?
Mule, you should look into that.. You should have your points accrued. Did you check in the PALS website?
It should show a point for rifle if you applied last year Joe!
Yes If I'm correct their three point pools starting this year?? One for rifle, one new for archery and I think the new one for late season??? So no one should have any for archery or late,, Am I right? Todd??? Ed R
That’s right Ed. Joe’s should look like this:
You are correct Ed. 3 different pools you can have points in this year. Only the Regular Elk would have past points. Archery and Late are new and everyone is starting at zero.
I still say, make non res a 10% draw... And residents of Elk county a 5% draw.. :)
Anybody that wants to meet look for the guy in the UBP Shirt and snakeboots at the Elk Drawing tomorrow. ;-)
Sad they do not stream it anymore.
I hope you’re planning on wearing pants too, Perry!! That last post of yours kinda sounds like something from Craigslist!! :)
LOL! Guess I didn’t phrase that the best.................But don’t worry, I WILL have pants on! : )
Thanks a lot Josh! I can’t get that pic out of my head
Well Rut. Did they call any of our names???
I know one UBPer that drew a cow tag
Bill v
does anyone know if they is a list of winners out for this year
Not sure how they do it Gary. But, I have a friend that got a call from the Pa GC yesterday afternoon informing him he drew a tag. I did not get a call so, I presume I get the “unsuccessful” stamp
Bill, It was hard to tell this year because they used the first 2 initials and last name only!(no first names) and their home town.
But I heard that a 5C Hunt “alumni” drew a cow tag. Don’t think it is the same person, though................
I was really impressed with the Expo! The older gentlemen that announced the names was a real “character!” He was dressed in “Old West” garb. And was funny as hell!
The vendors and exhibits were great. LOTS of people on Saturday!
Got to talk to Dave Mitchell from the PGC after the drawing yesterday for a few minutes, but then he had to go help call all the winners. I never realized they start making the calls almost immediately after the drawing! Right from the Expo.
Got to hang out with a fellow Bowsiter today and BS and share some stories. It was a good time- Thanks Chuck! (BTW, that shirt you were wearing was THE BEST! ;-)
Here is the aforementioned announcer interviewing the winner of the KECA Tag today. He happened to be in attendance.
Keystone Elk Country Alliance- it's the group that runs the Visitor Center. They have a Bull Tag that they raffle off every year. THen 100% of the proceeds go towards elk habitat improvement. They said they sold over 10,000 tickets which brought in over $180,000 The tag is good for 60 days starting in Sept. and comes with a lot of PERKS including 6 days guide service from Elk County Outfitters and Free taxidermy
The Sheriff is John Geissler, former Board Chairman of the Keystone Elk Country Alliance. Really nice guy with a great personality at these events.
Saw video of the name being drawn and UPB shirt sitting in the front row, left side. Assuming that is Rut.
Perry it was great meeting and getting to know you. Im definitly looking forward to the 5C hunt.
LOL! Yeah that is me and Chuck in the front row. When the program started we were out under the trees watching. When it started pouring we moved inside, just as the hail started to come down! ;-)
Yeah, it was a great time Chuck! Next year maybe we can get a few more folks to join us?!
Anyone have a list of people that drew or a link to it?
