I was scouting a new spot and there where a ton of these. Do deer eat them? My guess is hickory nuts?

notme - I remember when I was dating this girl in high school and we were in the woods and one of those nuts hit me on the back of my head while I was,......well, it hit me on the back of my head, that's all. It hurt so hard that I couldn't finish doing what we were doing.
