Anyone hunting on Public land for Elk in Ok??

26-Aug-19
I did last year after 9 years of applying and drew a cow elk tag. Was incredibly pissed that they wouldn’t let me use a bow and I won’t draw it again since it is a once in a lifetime tag.

Ended up being my very first rifle kill ever and a very anti climatic hunt that lasted about 45 minutes. Great luck for the meat and the opportunity but really wish they allowed bows.

The only elk hunting there is on public land in Oklahoma is in the rifle draw. Otherwise it’s orivate property and it’s leased up or hunted only by friends and family.

Also the states management plan for elk has been pretty liberal so the elk numbers on private land aren’t doing ver well except for large tracts that were managed well

lots of folks lined up behind you that would love to have the tag. Same with pronghorn.

for what you pay for pronghorn here, it is almost cheaper to go to wy and hunt public. I am a bit lucky as I grew up hunting them in SD, so never felt like it was much of a hunt compared to elk.

22 years and counting for that tag.
