Post 'em up! I got skunked on the opener but my dad shot a calf so the boys still got to help with butchering!
Well, I feel unbelievably lucky and thankful! Got this guy saturday morning at 6:30. That's 7 September bulls in a row in the same general area! I just stood shaking my head and happy or amazed or something. Was a different feeling. Feel very fortunate than get a thought about when's the next shoe fall?! And quickly get that thought out of my head. I hunt solo and that is special for me. Heard him bugle maybe 400 yds away and cow called to him. He answered so I boogie forward about 100 yds and cow called again. He answered so I immediately got another 80yds closer and cow called again and he answered. Wind perfect and I got set. He came in for a 25 yd shot. Saw him down 100 yds from me. G5 Striker, 100gr, pass through with my Hoyt RX1 Ultra. You guys know the good feeling.
Good job, nice looking bull. I really like the G5 striker.
Of those 7 bulls, 6 were pass through with that broadhead and the other one was a quartering away that went in just in front of the hip and was protruding out the neck in front of opposite shoulder. Yah, I like that broadhead!
Nice one....you didn't waste any time getting 'er done!
Great job guys! Way to get the blood on the ground early!
@WHOCARES... you pack it out yourself and everything? How far is your hike? Assuming you quarter it and bone out? one trip?
This one far easier than most. Got an atv to less than a mile and a friend showed up and helped finish up. Hot weather, time a primo. Had it in a walk in cooler by 2. I know, not fair! But I've had plenty tough ones. Just breaking him down getting tougher for this guy! But a labor of love, right?
Nice going Ron D! Calf meat is some good stuff
For sure, new to hunting out west... sticking with deer for now and I go mainly solo. It aint no flat .25 mile walk on the snow like in the north east lol. I've only ever dragged them. Hope to bag one this year, seen 4 within 20 yards sunday but poor positioning and angles couldnt get a draw on them
Congrats to your dad DirtyD and great work Whocares! I also got it done this weekend. I was unable to pull the herd bull away from the herd. He did stand out in the open at 68 yards screaming his heads off. I’m not one of those guys taking 70 yard shots at elk though. I was able to put a good arrow in a big ol cow though. Every bone and muscle in my body hurts so good. I’m only a 150 lb guy so it took 3 trips of packing (approx 70 lb each) out around 2 miles each trip. Feel completely blessed and ready for a couple days of recovery. A day or two off and I’ll be back in the game trying to stick a nice Muley buck. Good luck out there guys and be safe.
Soccer, I see what you're wondering. I usually figure 4 trips for a bull for me and I bone them out. Sometimes 5. Age is a factor. My age. About to turn 73 and not as solid of knees as 20 years ago, so consider that stuff for yourself. And with weather we're having right now meat has to get taken care of promptly. As much fun as it is to be packed in and solo you have to consider meat retrieval a priority before you go. Good luck to you on your hunt and enjoy it all!
Whocares, Guys like you are so inspirational, at age 40 I already start to feel a little regression each year but hope that at 73 I’ll be in as of good of shape as you are and still getting it done. Usually takes me 3 trips of deboned meat for a cow and usually a 4th trip if I’ve arrowed a bull.
Hey, thanks, but be sure to follow Paul's current thread on the big game forum. He is so fun!!!
killed this bull on the second morning hunting over a wet wallow mostly because of the warm weather. see my story on the elk conference, titled, a Senior Moment, Part 2.
Way to go Paul!! Congrats. A good feeling!
Great job Paul that’s a beautiful bull.
Longbow forky. Hadn't seen much during scouting or the first couple of days but the local game warden gave me a tip and I took advantage of it.
That’s a beautiful Ram JohnMC
Congratulations to you guys who have "gott'er done" early :)
2nd Mule deer ever!
2nd Mule deer ever!
I got blessed Sunday morning and nailed this nice muley. Crawled up to an elk to 30 yards and a tree was blocking my shot. Then a mule deer saw me and spooked all the elk. Hunting hard for 6 days and did not have any more opportunities. Thank God for this muley though. ????????
Congratulations to all!!!
nice muley TCO, congrats!
Got my moose opening day. 18 yard shot. Double lung pass thru. She took 3 steps and fell over
Nice job cohoyt. What unit were you in?
One tag punched. BList cow next.
Ok cnelk, we need another view of that awesome bull! Congrats
Getting wind of a giant Bull moose down.
It's bigger and it probably wont be posted on here for a while. It's a giant and the guy who got it is a straight killer.
Congrats Brad ... you've certainly got 'em dialed.
On the opener, I frontal shot a bull at about 10 feet. What a rush! Went about 10 yards and rolled down the hill. As he was passing me, I saw an exit wound that wasn't mine. He's "hanging" on Dash's meat pole. Congrats bud!
Moose with a bow checked off my bucket list!
Congrats Steve! Something I still want to do.
Congrats to all! Here's my opening day OTC-DIY bull taken at 3 pm chasing cows. Two arrow pass through at 11 yards. It seems to be an epic year for habitat and animals. Good luck!
Opening morning archery moose
Called this one in to 30 yards
Called this one in to 30 yards
Finally got my first bull
Longbow, spot and stalk, 15 yards...
Spot and stalk/decoy today. Not elk hunting but better than sitting at home! Pic is as good as I could do with a phone. Can of cope ,and a wallet for a tripod.
Double lung pass through w/ 100s ironwill. On to elk

Solo DIY New unit 1st Timberline Hunt
The buck ran down the bowl into the timber to his final resting place. Stoked to get it done on this DIY solo timberline wilderness hunt. My first ever timberline hunt too, I’m hooked.
Looks like maybe I shot her in Australia!
Looks like maybe I shot her in Australia!
Got her done! 326 foot pack out to camp and truck! Lucked out and had a friend show up to same area through pure happenstance to help out!
It's not often that I've had the chance to post on the elk meat pole...but I get to this year. I love seeing everyone's successful hunts! This was my quickest bowhunting kill ever. Went maybe 10 yards and dead in 10 seconds. On opening weekend I got careless and a little greedy which prevented me from shooting a cow. But two weekends later I made it count. Good luck to everyone still out there!

Congrats to all you happy guys! Nice pics. Can't beat fun!
You guys can see the huge shiras I was talking about on kifarus Instagram page
Was able to take this black bear at 30 yards, grunted at him to stop him as he was trotting by.
Bear paws are so cool.
Bear paws are so cool.
Congrats all! I finally caught up with one.
Here is my 2019 mule deer.
Nice, Henry! Congrats to you, and DirtyD. And all you guys! Can't beat real fun.
Way to go guys, so cool the variety of game we have and successful hunters!
Congratulations Matt, nice bull. Imagine that, Henry kills another great mule deer!
Dad and I both tagged out in Colorado this year. Getting ready for the long drive back to West Virginia!
Year #2 bow hunting elk after the move from the flatlands out east. I’m not too proud to take the satellite bull when the herd bull played hard to get.
My most difficult and frustrating elk hunt ever got better in one minute. 7 yard shot, 40 yard pileup, 200 yards (downhill) to a major county road, 10 minutes from my cabin, public land. The herd bull was roaring below but wasn't about to pass him up at 7 yards with only a couple days left. New girlfriend helped with the butchering and packing.
Congratulations Lou, all archery bulls are well earned!
My 30 yard, OTC, public land bull.
Last Friday night, 30 yards, double lung pass through, easy, short recovery. Vintage Diamond Black Ice compound. I was into some huge bucks, but no shot op. I'm very happy with this young doe, freezer was empty.
This is how I found her, about 50 yards away from where I shot. I watched her bounce away and heard her crash.
No elk, deer or bear for me but, got my first ptarmigan.
Social event cow, way more than I wanted, but last day in that area, single cow I don't pass those. 4th and last elk packed in that week.
Bee's nest of bulls, shot this one.
2nd day Billy just prior to last OTC hunt of the year. I think my legs are the size of coke bottles (16 oz)
Shot this one earlier in the year.
Who fills more tags than Caz! I know you're just getting started but congratulations on some great animals so far. Looking forward to see how your deer season turns out.
Damn Caz! Your legs may be the size of coke bottles but your freezer better the size of a semi trailer.
Caz you're an animal. Congrats on one helluva season so far!
Hows that bear taste Caz?
Thanks Guys, a couple more tags to go we shall see.
Eating bears scares me so I donate them when salvage is necessary. All others go into the "Party" freezer.
This the one Orion? Only angle I found.
That's it. The first trip out was the rack, and the balls for evidence of sex and you can see it's all he can carry just to get that out.
Yep Dirk that's it. It's a beast
Good paddle width. Like to see a front view.
Dang Justin that beast is almost big enough to look like it was taken up here.
Guess I will put this up now that I've posted the story
Brun, Congrats! Where is the story posted?
The story is on the Big Game Forum
15 yard hail-mary with the longbow...;)
Brun,
Have you put a tape on that bull? Looks like he’ll score real well. Congrats again!
Quinn, I measured him at 338" I thought he might go a bit higher, but the right side is a little smaller in length and the right 3rd is also smaller. I had a fantastic time up there and I'm really happy with the whole experience. Thanks for reading my story and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I had almost as much writing it as I did on the hunt. Emphasis on ALMOST.
Great Bull Brun! Although 338" is a very BIG bull I too thought he looked even bigger. He will look great on the wall. Congrats on using those points on an awesome hunt, your way!
Not sure how the coyotes got here, but finally got the deer here...hate to show rifle kills and get some people worked up....
Nice buck! Congrats.
Don't worry about the rifle kill coyotes. It's acceptable according to Bowsite's owner. :)
Well done fellas! No archery tags for me this year, but I've been fortunate to pack bulls for buddies in both 76 and 61, it's been a great season so far!
Looks like a nice buck, Tim! Congrats!
PLO Buck with a longbow. Rack isn't noteworthy, but the 600 yard tracking job (due to a high liver hit) through the night and into the AM, is very noteworthy. On hands and knees with a flashlight finding specs of blood on blades of grass and rocks.
Pic is post field dressing, hence the skinny body.
My step nephew with his 1st archery kill. PLO 3rd rifle did it with the bow. They like to hang out in the patch of trees by this guys house. Got it done a few hours before he flies out to prepare for deployment with the Air Force. Was really glad he was able to get the hunt in & was successful.
Congrats to your nephew! Please tell him thanks for his service.
I sent him the link to the post, so hopefully he sees it & signs up as a bowsiter.
Bucks we’re moving pretty good where we were at Saturday morning. We saw 8 bucks. Late in the morning, this guy came cruising along a little tree line I had my boy set up to watch at 20yards. I bleated to stop him and my son made a great shot. This is his second archery deer in two years of bow hunting, and by far his biggest! Yesterday was a good day in the field, one of those days that will just always be there ready to be remembered!
I was blessed to shoot this awesome Iowa 8 Point on my farm lease on Nov 7.
Wow Mark! What a great buck. Congratulations!!!

Plains deer in SE Colorado, 30 yards. Awesome "scouting" trip to find deer for my trip that was scheduled the week of Thanksgiving
Not sure how to turn the picture.
Arrowed this ram on Sunday 11/10. A heavier ram with 16" bases as measured by CPW.
Short on time right now to post more detail and pics but will try to get back and do that later.
Beautiful ram on a Beautiful day! A couple of the reasons I love CO.
Congrats!

Nice ram, Greg. Too bad you got my tag this year! Congrats on the raffle and the ram. What part of the state did you hunt with that governor's tag?
Awesome critters! Congratulations to all the successful bow hunters this year!
Awesome Ram, Congratulations sticksender
15 yards on the ground. Watched him go down.
Very nice, Lou!! Congrats!
Well done, Lou. If you have the time, would you do the story for us on the mule deer forum, please? I always look forward to your hunt and would enjoy hearing how it went down this year.
Saw this guy at 145 yards so I hit the horns, he ran into 70 yards and raked the heck out of a tree. A couple grunt calls later and the rest is history

20 yard shot at last light. Watched him pile up at 80 yrds.
My first buck and 1st opportunity to bow hunt in last 7 years. I got this buck spot-n-stalk in the high grass. I also had privilege of meeting Paul at camp one morning.
Congrats. That's a great first buck and probably will be some good eating.

My wife spent 9 days hunting whitetails out in Eastern CO this year. Our dog Hank and I offered moral support. We hunted out of natural ground blinds. Overall, It was pretty slow, with most days only having one buck come through, if any. The exception was one day where we had four mature buck encounters with six bucks in total. She passed on five bucks and a dozen or so antlerless deer over the season, hoping for a mature buck, and was rewarded with two great opportunities. Unfortunately she was not able to capitalize on them. In the end, we ran out of available time and she took her first deer with a bow.
Screwed up original I guess
Packing out.
Packing out.
My brother, ABQBW here, came along for the hunt.

I will just drop this into the pot...Colorado archery ram. Life long dream realized this week.
35 yards quartering away, perfect passthrough from tight behind shoulder and out in front of opposite shoulder. Saw the arrow hit the ground past him. Ram fell over stone dead in 5 seconds after he ran a mere 10 yards. Not one leg kick or movement after hit the ground . As happy with that efficiency as anything.
Wow! Nice job Khunter! Heck of a ram. Looks like he been butting some heads lately.
KHunter that's a beautiful ram, congrats!
Congratulations KHunter, gorgeous ram! When do we get the story?
Daaaaaamn, that’s a hell of a Ram bud. Great job and congrats!
Amazing ram! Well done. That’s the dream right there.
NICE RAM!! Congrats Kirby!
Super nice ram! Story please.
Great ram! Congratulations!!
In my experience that's pretty typical of rams that are hit well. They go down faster than any other animal.
One of the coolest/craziest things I've been a part of! This hunt was freaking AWESOME!!
Wowzie Matt D!!! Are we having cat backstraps at your Big Game Feed? :)
You bet your arse we are!
Congrats Matt, that’s a heck of a tom. Nothing like chasing lions through the forest with dogs.
Dirty D congrats!
Are we gonna get more details on the "coolest/craziest" part that you mentioned?
Congratulations Matt! Big lion!
Thanks guys. And yep sticksender, details are coming. I'll likely start a new thread so I don't get the "Meat Pole" too far off track...
Looks like that cat had been eating well! Congrats and looking forward to the story!!
Nice! Looks healthy. If he would have lived another 5 years or so, you saved us around 300 or so deer!
Holy crap, congrats to her!!!
