So I should be on the way to elk camp right now. I planned on leaving today missing Labor Day weekend and then hunting until the end of season. On Sunday a dear family friend we have known for over 20 years died from ALS. Luckily we got the chance to say goodbyes on the previous Sunday. Waiting on funeral arrangements , since everything was closed yesterday. Right now it seems like the funeral services will be on the 14th so I will leave tomorrow and hunt until Friday the 13th to be home that night. I will have to check in with my wife every other day if things aren't finalized by the time I leave. I always thought hunting was one of the most important things in my life but found out life will throw a curveball into your plans.

Sorry for your loss. Hunting takes a back seat to family, friends, and a whole bunch of other things when push comes to shove. Keep your priorities straight, you'll have time enough to get back in the woods.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Funerals imo are very important man. They make you reflect on your own life and though they're very difficult it can help you see things in a renewed way. Keep positive.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my mom this past March. A few weeks later my dad draws for a Bighorn Sheep in the Gorge. We believe a nice gift from her. A week before the hunt I rush my dad into the ER thinking he is having a heart attack. Turned out to be a big blood clot in his left lung and then they found one in his heart. Did an emergency procedure to break up the clot and blood thinners. A week after we are out hunting with him toting his oxygen bottle around and shoot a nice ram opening morning! Very happy for him and a little teary eyed walking up to that sheep for sure.

My deepest sympathy. Had a similar experience in 15. I felt his presence while I did hunt that year

Well I am back with close chances but nothing to show for it. Was in elk almost everyday and within 40 yards most times but no shots presented themselves. This was a peaceful and sad time but I am much recharged. Solitude does that for me, allows me to reflect and come to peace with nature and my view of what I call God. The funeral will be Sunday so I thank all of you for your thoughts.
On a brighter note I got home on Friday the 13th, full moon none the less, and got rear ended with all my tools in the trunk of my car. Will have to see if I can get the trunk opened after taking it to the body shop. Should have stayed in the woods one more day.
