I’m one of those hi tech rednecks that don’t know how to rotate the photo.
Nice work !!! Now get to butchering and vacuum packing !!!
Congratulations to both of you on your success. Well done!
CONGRATULATIONS! There'll be nuts for Christmas!
Outstanding! Congratulations! A rare occurrence where husband and wife tag out first day, first hour and wife's first deer. Nice. I think the third guy in the picture wants to go bow hunting.
Awesome! What a great day!
How long was the recovery? Tell more.
STORY!! We need stories folks...too many people post a nice picture...no idea what the hell happened or how!!
Tell the tale!!
Congratulations!!
Nice opening day! Congrats to both of you. A deer she will never forget.
That was quick.....I was expecting some elk or pronghorn pics.

Congrats huntr4life! Great to see the whole family involved. That will be a day to remember for a long time
I agree with some of the other boys. We need Paul Harvey to hop on and give us the rest of the story. Congrats on the kills.
Awesome job to the both of you.
Congrats Huntr4life and Mnhunter1980. We had an eventful opening morning with one successful hunter (not me.) This deer was bedded next to a marsh in somewhat of a ditch with a field on the other side. He got up 45 yds away (and shook the dew off of his back) from another guy in our group and basically walked a right angle, skirting another hunter (whom never saw him), but ending up walking by the successful hunter at around 27 yds. He made a great shot as the buck took another step. Short recovery, maybe 70 yds.
Wow, congrats to all three.
The wife and I got out to the blind about a half hour before first light. Right before 7 am had two does come in and bust us out. Five minutes later the tall six comes walking in 29 yards quartering away. Gave the wife the option and decided she would wait and insisted I take him. Let the arrow fly and put it right into his pump station. He ran 20 yards and piled up. Ten minutes after that whole ordeal low and behold here comes the the eight point. 24 yards broadside. The little lady didn’t hesitate and put the arrow right through both lungs. He went less than 30 yards and expired right there. Couldn’t be more proud of her on her first deer. Went back to the house and grabbed my 7 yr old to help with the track. He couldn’t be more happy for his mom and dad.
Huntr4, very nice. Congrats to you and your wife.
Like the shot placement Novice, that guy hit my aim point.
" From: Slicer 14-Sep-19 First kill pic I ever saw with sandals on.
First time for everything I guess. "
maybe you 'are' new here ... or just missed my opener buck 2 year ago, shot wearing only my socks and underpants. But not in the photo, the site has standards and ...we don't want to scare the younger ladies !
Doorknob that sounds like a funny story. I somehow missed it? Lol
use your way back machine and set it to two years ago ...
I was hunting over two scrapes that were just opened up in this past week. I saw a couple of bucks early and then this guy came up from the creek I was hunting and freshened his scrape on a trot. 25 yard shot with an 80 yard recovery. Mid lung entry with top of the heart. It’s been a few years since I let one fly this early, but now I play guide for my boys... :)
Huntr4life- GREAT story!!
Holy cow.....you guys are setting the bar kind of high and it`s only Sept. 15th!!!
Congrats duke! You weren't wearing sandals were you? JK LOL
Grittyslicerbait’s comment was ignorant and unwarranted. Not out of character for a anti with a drinking problem. Nice deer and congrats to all who have been fortunate to already have killed a deer.
Well done Duke! Very cool looking buck. Keep 'em coming everyone.
Duke - Congratulations and Thanks for the story!! Get those boys set up and hunting!! Wishing you all good luck with the kids!!
Pat
We had a great opening day, my son who just turned 17 shot his second buck w/ the bow. 4 does and this buck came in but at the last second the buck turned and walked the other way. He ended up walking to my brother, 75 yds away who had just shot a doe which took 2 arrows which must have loosened his quiver. When drawing his bow his quiver then fell off and bounced down the ladder and spooked the buck and back past my son! He stopped the buck w/ a meh and made a great double lung shot at 17yds. Super proud of him who has been shooting almost everyday for 3 weeks and really struggling w/ target panic. Happy days!
WD, very cool for your son and for you. I know what that pride feels like. A couple of years ago when my son was 17, he too was going through target panic and it seemed like it would never end. I sent him to our archery shop in Brookfield and they converted him to using back tension muscles and a surprise release and he's been great ever since. I'm sure you and your son feel a sense of relief as well as the jubilation of the successful kill. I know I would rather see my son have a kill over me doing it. Congrats to you both!
Wausau, congrats to you and your son! Seeing our kids enjoy the outdoors is one of the best rewards a parent can have.
It makes me happy to see the kids and wives getting into it. Good job boys.
Nice WD! Great feeling watching the kids carry on tradition and have success.
Congrats to all. Love to see the kids be successful.
WausauDoug- COOL does not even begin to describe it!! Congrats to your son!! WOW!!!
Another GREAT hunting story as well! Remember those stories with the kill pictures!! Very cool!
Here is a great hunting story and what hunting means to people and to families. This child is on his last days on Earth and got to go on one last hunt with his dad last weekend.

Neighbors kid, 12 years old, shot his first bear tonight. Made a perfect shot. Fur was looking pretty good.
Congrats to the boy!!! Nicely done!
Nice job, congrats to the young man!
Congratulations to all involved.
Really nice bear. Surprised to see a lot of these really nice long haired fall bears lately....great trait in these upper Midwest bears.
In even 2 weeks past opener there can be a big difference in hair quality on bear.
My daughter's buck she got yesterday evening. Story on "Daughter Does It Again Thread."
Congrats to you and your daughter! Nice buck !!
very nice! congrats to both.
Very nice Mike , Congrats
Congratulations Mike. Any story you'd care to share to go with the photo? Well done!
Good job Mike! Nice bull!
Mike does it again, good job. Good luck getting another one of those nice whitetails that you always get.
I chalked up the first whitetail for the season. Hopefully there are more to come.
GVS: Way to go!
Benjamin Franklin said there were only two things certain in life: death and taxes. But I'd like to add a third certainty: cheesehead smacks a nice bull annually!
Thanks guys. I guess I can add a little story.
On opening day, September 1st, only 45 minutes into the season my buddy Les Welch killed a bull that I called in so off and on for the next couple weeks he was calling for me.
Another buddy, Wyatt from Texas had joined us and we were hunting together that morning with Les as caller and me and Wyatt as shooters.
At about 7:15am we were working our way up a steep mountainside when we came to a nice bench right above us. We bugled and a bull answered at what I estimated to be 100 yards above us and slightly to our right.
We had a quick discussion and Wyatt and I moved forward about 20 yards with Wyatt going right and me going left. Les stayed back to call.
Les began calling and the bull answered with several bugles and a cow appeared about 20 yards in front of me. Then a second bull bugled and suddenly the second bull came trotting toward Les's calls and stopped 40 yards to my left quartering slightly toward me and looking down over the lip of the bench toward Les. I guessed 40 yards, put my 40 yard pin tight behind his shoulder and watched my lighted nock fly true and hit home. It was pretty awesome in dim early morning light.
He spun and ran and I immediately gave several cow calls hoping to slow or stop him. We heard him pile up after running for about 5 seconds. The other bull continued to bugle so I dropped back and called while Wyatt moved forward to try to get a shot with Les following with his video camera. After a few minutes the other bull moved off so we regrouped where I shot my bull. We gave him a few minutes and took up the blood trail. He only went about 80 yards. I hit him tight behind the shoulder and my arrow exited at the rear of his ribcage.
We spent a few minutes taking photos and then Les and Wyatt left to continue hunting while I cut up my bull. A couple hours later I got an inReach message that they had called in another bull and Wyatt killed it. I guess Friday the 13th wasn't so unlucky after all.
I have been wondering how you were doing. Not surprised at all. You guys are killers! No need to say congrats any more. Hardcore! Wish I could hunt with you guys!

Lots of awesomeness here. Congrats guys.
Wow, lots of great hunts happened this year already. Congrats to all so far!!! Exciting elk hunt Mike, although I have been through a 2 elk down situation and having to pack them out, not fun. GVS, way to keep the Trad. going, I need a doe like that shortly hear. Arrow, great year for you and your family so far.
WOW, nice to see that things can go right.
Filled one of my numerous anterless tags for Kewaunee Co this evening
Arrow1 - congratulations on the bull. Nice going! And congrats to all who have been successful so far this year. Many more pictures to come I am sure.
Live/case thanks.. We started off the year with our bear camp hosting the owner of Lakelink along with his family and friends and others. We went 6 for 7 with the 7th guy passing on 6 bear one about 300 and one he left the stand early the bear the (7th) one later standing there at 728p. A 300 plus bear. He later went home even though he could have continued to hunt. I count the camp 100%. I can't make them pull the trigger. The weather was the worst I seen in 40 plus years of guiding. I would post pictures but the kills were all long guns and xguns. This is an Archery site. Not much for quality bucks up here so our next stop is archery mule deer in Montana during the rut.
Worst year ever for NBC Guide Service. We ended up with five bears, all hunters saw bears and could have shot bears. The weather was the worst for hunting bears I've ever seen and the natural forage was plentiful to say the least. This was my last year guiding for NBC and I never saw a decent bear to shoot. All hunters were very understanding about the weather and many said this is hunting, not killing. Best group of bowhunters we've had.
Extremely high pressure public land doe.
Maybe because deer act differently on heavily pressured PL.
Congrats browning! Good feeling I bet. Mission accomplished
Is this SB Boner fella always this big of a douche?? Killing any deer on public land within 45 minutes of downtown Milwaukee is not an easy task. The deer here are constantly moving in search of un-pressured areas. Keeping up with them isn't easy. Finding the overlooked spots has been key. Basically stay out of the woods and you'll find deer. LOL! I have about 300 acre lease on really good land but it's 4.5 hours away. Hunting between the two is nowhere near the same.
It's good to see some of the old time turds have been replaced by new up N' comers. Haven't been around here in years. Kinda reminds me of good buck bedding....after one gets killed a new one moves right in.
Yep! Just a dumbass doe that's been avoiding army's of hunters! Shooooot...no way the year round scouting and staying on top of, not only the hunting pressure by other hunters, but where the deer are moving had anything to do with it. I'm surprised all the hunters I talk to in the parking lots in the area aren't filling all their tags! Its sooo easy! Must be holding out for those big old does that bust them so they don't educate the others. LMFAO! I probably should of shot that 115" 10 point that came through earlier in the evening SB Jones had something to look at other than another doe pic. I did do you a favor and didn't post the pic of the doe I shot a couple weeks ago off my private lease. Just looks like every other private land doe.
Is bowsite a free for all these days? Does Pat Lefemine still patrol? Sorry for muddying the kill thread do to defending wrong assumptions made by the new ass clown of the board. Is that Ronny Kulas new alias?
It only goes as far as the responder wants to take it. That's the freedom we have.
I love the the mountains in September.
Grossklw you get it done every year!
Hey Gross - well done! Congrats.
Nice photos...but we need to hear stories guys!! Doe or Elk - what happened and how did it go down?
Congrats fella's!

All you need to know is that Bones' dad IS Kulas and that explains everything you need to know about Bones. Pat does not get here enough but PMs to him will get people removed. It worked with Slicer. Congrats Browning on the awesome doe and don't let the douchebag bother you.
Great shot and doe, Browning. Those PL old doe’s sure are an accomplishment and trophy!
Nice pictures everyone, congratulations on the success.
I'll do a better write up in the off-season, but this is the gist of it.
We filled 3/4 tags on our two week hunt, a really nice 6X5 (busted off his main-beam after his 4th on his R side), my 5X4, and a small raghorn. The other two bulls killed in camp were first archery elk for both, and the only unfilled tag had a chip shot at 18 yards that he unfortunately missed.
I had really good, close encounters with a couple much bigger bulls than the one I killed. I had a legitimate 340 bull at 33 yards bedded for 30 minutes, but when he stood he launched up and chased another satellite bull sprinting so there was no shot. I chased him and his cows/satellites across the mountain. Had one of his satellite's (290 inch 6X6) at 45 yards raking, but when I drew and attempted to creep out for a shot he for whatever reason pinned me down (still baffled). I had the big bull at 65 yards 3 other times, it just wasn't meant to be, but an awesome night of hunting.
Basic story of mine is I got in tight on him and challenged him, it ended with him bugling and chuckling at me at 8 yards before I shot him. He stopped again at 40 yards and he looked like he was going to die but I put another arrow in his neck and ended it. I cut him up solo in the dark, without bear spray (whole other story that I'll tell in the off-season).
Les came back from Idaho to hunt and help me get guys's tags filled, it was awesome to finally have him in camp. Original plan was he was going to come for a couple days to hunt with me, but once I tagged out he jumped at the chance to help get someone their first archery elk. We teamed up to call in my uncle's bull which he drilled at 20 yards. It was an intense 45 minutes where we essentially split and mimicked two herds coming together cutting each other off with challenge bugle's. Right up there with the funnest elk hunt I've ever had, and I never even seen an elk until we walked up to the dead one.
Mine is not a huge bull, but I like eating elk, and you need to kill an elk to eat one; so I went home very happy. I don't have an inch category in my head, if it's a fun encounter, I shoot, simple as that; and I'd count a bull screaming at me at 8 yards as a fun encounter.
Damn gross!! Well done! What state? Road hunting?;)
Saturdays opening day of pheasant got a limit with my dad. One of my favorite days of the year.
Does anyone know anything about this bear. A friend emailed me the picture, but no info.
What brand bow is that? I have never seen a bow like that, it is pretty interesting design. Nice Bear also.
Drop Tine's Link
Gearhead archery. They are a local company in Sauk City, WI.
Hard to look at but seem to be doing very well on the tournament trail.
DropTine, Thank you for the link, they look weird, but looks are not everything. I am glad to hear they are another Wisconsin company in the bow building arena.
Gearhead is quite the company. I've toured their facility and talked at length with them.
Very interesting concept and design. They have bows with A-T-A down to 18".
hoot - so why don't you ask your friend where he/she got the picture from. Maybe you did already, let us know. Secondly I will add that there are a quite a few pictures that are photoshopped and pure fake. Unless any photo provides credible information, Be cautious.
Right in diesel! Good eats and time afield with the old man is always a good thing! Congrats!
Case l, I bought a gear head bow for some of my African trips. It is small enough that I can pack it a duffel bag. This eliminates a separate hard case which always seems to get routed to the police department in the airport at Johannesburg because of being mistook for a firearm. I feel they are a little less forgiving to shoot but the small size sure has its benefits.
Oldhunter - I did ask but they had no info either.
CaptMike - which model did you get? I shot a couple different ones. Sure has a different "feel", one I would have to get used to. How did you adjust to the draw length situation, with their release extensions? I agree however, they are super maneuverable and handy to carry, transport, etc. Interesting idea, and for sure state of the art technology.
Case, I have the T-20. I think 20 or 20-1/2" ata. It feels different but not really hard to get used to. It can be ordered at different draw lengths which got me close. Even though I don't like them, I had to add a loop to get my draw length just right. The size certainly has its advantages. A huge difference between my BowTech Prodigy or my recurve. I didn't really realize just how much of a difference until getting in a stand or blind! The one thing that short axle to axle does is make it evident if I am torqueing the bow at all.
10/23. Not my biggest but best with the bow so far
Heck ya!! Great buck smokoligist! Congrats!
Congratulations Smoke. Way to go, ya done did well!
CONGRATULATIONS Smokologist!
Great buck Smoke. Congrats
Congratulations, good deer..Smoke..
Congratulations Smoke nice buck !
Congrats smoke on the Buck
I put a different picture in weekly report from last week. Southern WI buck.
I got this guy Saturday morning.
Congrats to all that have been successful so far, and good luck to all in the coming weeks.
He was only about five yards away at the shot. He was approaching head on and would pass by on the left of the ladder stand. I shot him slightly angling on. He took a couple fast steps and then stopped and stood there for a few seconds before running away. But he only got 25 yds.
This is where he stopped.
I spent the rest of the playing butcher and with a little bit of daylight left I sat down on the deck and had a cold one to enjoy a gorgeous sunset.
Less than a minute after I sat down from taking the sunset pic this little spike showed up.
Well deserved cold one GVS! Congrats!
Great stuff everyone. I love all the pics!
Rattled this one in this morning on an out of state public land hunt. Now on to the next state... :-)

My WI buck, and my MN buck from just across the river. A rough start to the season turned around nicely for me, can't complain one bit.
Your right John, about the freezer space! Stop over for your moose care package!!
Thanks guys
My 16 yr old son's 1st archery buck. Halloween morning at 10:15 am. Came in but didn't offer a shot and started to walk straight away. Gave him one grunt on the tube, he turned at 25 yds for a broadside shot. Ended up slightly quartered too and when I saw the blood trail, we gave him 4 hours before taking up the track. Went 150 yds and was stiff in his 1st bed. Lots of hugs and smiles that day.
Congrats to your boy.....job well done.
MN whitetail, 2 November 2019
Got it done this morning Sitting in the corner of small woods with a waterway connecting it to the bigger woods About 6;30 saw a doe headed my way coming down the waterway followed by a decent buck Wind was not right so she was trying to scent me Buck went west into soybean field Then noticed a bigger buck coming Doe worked her way slowly along the woods and the standing corn still trying to wind me I slowly got turned to my right which is tough with the harness Doe continued on with the buck following about 20 yds behind He got to my only shooting opening at about 28 yds( which is a far shot for me ) I focused and released Thought the shot looked good He ran about 30 yds back North on the waterway and then just stood there looking at the other buck All of a sudden after about 30 seconds he just crashed right in sight Unbelievable for me Might be my biggest buck at least spread wise ,8 pt 172 lbs and a legit 21 in inside spread Very happy Top it off my son brought my grandson Beau out for the recovery Awesome morning
Ridge Runner heck yes buddy really nice buck.. congratulations.. your little helper looks happy as well..
Minutes before the shot captured by trail cam
congrats guys, nice bucks.
Nocturnal, you got it done?
Some nice takes today. Congrats guys.
Nicely done guys!!! Tonight sucked for me....1 small 8 chasing a doe. That was it. Looks like last night and this morning were the days.
Congrats again.
Congrats guys... ridge runner I remember the 1st time happening to me. Shot a buck at 15 yards he ran 20 yards stopped and just stood there. I was so pissed thinking I missed him. Then he just tipped over.
Nice bucks gentlemen! I love reading/hearing hunting stories and buck kills
Congratulations to all the successful hunters. Noc, well done!
Beer.....that reminds me of I time I did the same thing. I shot a buck and he only jumped about 15 yards and I was like WTH I know I hit him. Looked through the binos and saw the arrow and blood.....then a smaller 8 pt comes up and finally gets the courage up to finally confront the deer I shot. They both bow up and my deer falls over dead.
The look on the 8`s face was priceless....he turned left and right like he was thinking..."did anyone just see that".....good times.
Congrats to the continued success!!
Lots of activity through the day on Saturday. Saw twenty some deer and nine of them bucks. Bucks were definitely cruising but saw zero chasing.
Way to go both Mike`s....nice deer.
Damn, I'm jealous. Congrats to both Mikes as well.
No bow in the picture, Capt must have used a xbow. LOL joking big time. Congrats to both Mikes!!
My son hunted our lease by Cazenovia this afternoon and seen 6 doe and a scrub buck with no sign of any rut action at all.
DT, you are correct, there was no crossbow used. Just took the pictures where I found him and didn’t take my bow along when I went to get them. I hunt very close to Cazenovia. Throughout the day on Saturday, I saw 20 some deer and nine different bucks. Guess I was just in the right spot but they were sure moving where I was.
DT, Mike and I are all in the same area. I had a feeling Sat. morning would be rocking as Fri. night was hot.....I saw the most deer Fri. night and most were does...finally. Hoping tonight is the night for me....super cold and I`m getting worn out...lol.
Backstraps!
Backstraps!
What an awesome week to hunt in Iowa County. Wednesday morning wind for my stand is perfect. I got to see a big boy lock down a doe and breed her. About 10 minutes later after trying to grunt, bleat and rattle this guy closer to me for a shot I look in the opposite direction and here comes another taller basket racked buck. Not as wide or heavy as the first one but definitely a shooter for me. Unfortunately because I was rattling when I saw him, he had me pegged in the tree. Luckily my snow camo kept him from bolting. Instead he tried circling downwind. He stopped behind a tree that I was going to use as cover to draw, while I waited for him to begin coming into the shooting lane, he then ran off the direction he came from. Turns out when he stopped behind the tree, he must have got a whiff of the trail I walk in on. This was more than he could stand. Fast forward to Thursday morning, I see movement about 150 yards north of my stand. Binoculars confirm it's a coyote coming my way. At 20 yds I draw and he turns broadside runs a few feet and stops. When moving my bow to take aim he takes off like he's on fire before I can release. The next chance I can hunt is Friday afternoon. Now the winds are from the worst possible direction for any of my stands, so I do something I haven't done for a few years. I use some doe estrous scents. About 1/2 hour before shooting ends I have a nice doe and two fawns feed within 12 - 20 yards around my stand for about 15 minutes completely ignoring the scent wicks. Then I have an average 8-10 point buck come from upwind and walk downwind of the scent completely ignoring it. And finally about 5 minutes before end of shooting time I have 2 more does about 50 yards away feeding in the woods. Saturday morning at about 6:30 the guy in the picture comes from downwind of a scent wick. At about 50 yards away he throws his head back pointing his nose to the sky apparently drinking in the estrus scent. He works within 20 yards. I'm at full draw and release. My arrow flies right where I'm looking. I see about 18" of arrow sticking out. Poor penetration. He crashes off directly down the ridge way from me when I realize I can't see the arrow still sticking out. After a half hour wait I take up the trail. Very little blood. Just some fine mist dots where his tracks show in the snow and a drop here and there. After working through a few difficult spots on the trail by circling and then following tracks until I confirm with some blood that I'm on the right track. I find a couple of beds with very little blood. Then about 50 yards further I find him piled up. He went about 300 yards (200 yds as a crow flies - 600 yds on my OnX track, ok maybe I made a few more circles than I thought looking for blood). Turns out I hit him in front of the shoulder. Just goes to show you that what you think you see at the moment of the shot is sometimes a little different than what actually happens. Either way the outcome was good and he died quickly. Mathew Halon, Carbon express Maxima Red Hunter, Rocky Mountain 3-Blade broadheads. This my 4th deer in 4 years since getting this setup and I couldn't be more thrilled.
Nice deer Helgermite. Good story.
Congrats to all, nice bucks.
"Backstraps" hell....nice buck!
Jeez Mike! Set the bar extremely high this year!
I`ll say....talk about a killing machine.
Damn Mike. Awesome! Not surprising, however. You always get it done.
Shot November 14th. The does started getting back to their fawns on the 12th and I started seeing some of the better bucks showing back up near scraped and pre rut areas. When this guy stepped out in the field, the does and fawns started to come by me and he followed. His back right leg was injured and he had a limp. I found the tip of a broadhead just under the skin on the inside of the leg above the knee joint. That whole area is calcified.
This our last trail cam photo of him, 9:30am the day I got him at 4:50pm. You can see his short right leg. He would sometimes stand with his left leg forward or behind, so we never knew the leg was shorter, only that his knee area showed an injury.
Congrats to all the successful hunters on this thread. Job well done!
Nice to see the success of fellow Bowsiters. Congrats to all.
Congratulations to the latest successful hunters Some nice bucks and great pictures
Started out by getting to our land late due to an accident on I94 on Thursday. So didn’t make it to my stand until Friday morning. Just so happens that Friday 11/15 was my 40th birthday and couldn’t think of a better way to spend it than sitting in our woods. About 7am had a young doe hanging around. I was looking around the area to see if any other deer came in with her and while doing so I heard a grunt in the area I last saw her. It was then I saw this buck. He came in and checked her but she was not having it. He then began to walk off away from me. I grunted are him a few times and he immediately stopped and did a 180 and came right back towards me. He went past my stand to about 50yds and stopped again. It was at that time my stars must have aligned because he turned again and walked to what I thought was about 20-25 yds and turned broadside. I drew while he was walking at me when behind a big tree so I held for awhile until he turned broadside. He was looking hard for where that grunt came from. As he turned broadside and was slowly walking I mouth grunted him to stop and let it rip. It was a low hit for what I typically would like and I immediately felt sick. He ran about 30 yds and stopped. I watched him in my binocs and could see the blood pouring out. A better hit than I thought. He teetered a bit and went down right there. Head popped up once and the it was over. I gave him a good 30 min (mainly to calm myself down) before getting down as I didn’t see any other movement from him. Went and checked on him before going to pick up my popsicle wife up from her end of the woods to get help dragging! ;) Anyway the hit was a touch low but did the job. Got the bottom of both lungs. Pretty happy with this bday gift!
Nice buck slick. Thanks for the story to go with the picture
Well done Slick....it`s been a little slow on the "kill" thread, thanks for picking it up for us!
Awesome Slick! Great story!
Thanks guys, also congrats to everybody else, some awesome bucks!
Last night...all happened in 30 seconds.
My son got it done yesterday afternoon Thought he saw something near his stand when he got out there, Quickly climbed up to his stand Decided to rattle a little and this guy came in quite quickly looking for action Casey made what he thought was a a good shot Buck stopped about 60 yds away He thought he was gonna go down but instead the buck blew and trotted off which concerned him He could still see him on his feet about 200yds away with his binoculars After-waiting a while he checked where he shot Found pretty good blood which was easy with some snow left We discussed it and decided to wait till morning ( When in doubt back out and when he guided in Colorado he always said, if he dead now he’ll be dead in the morning) Anyway it was a pretty easy recovery this morning But he did bed 3 times so probably good we didn’t track last night Shot was low but there was just a good steady blood trail And then my grandson was also able to be in on the fun 2 weeks in a row He was plenty happy with this deer for the last week of early season Also makes it 3 for 3 for my son, daughter and I two yrs in a row Good season and lots fun ( Sorry for long post )
Grape, did you have that one chained to a tree?
I've taken a lot of heat cause of that chain....I used my tractor to hang it and wash it out before my wife took the pic..Can I blame it on my wife....she was in a hurry and I forgot to take it off..ok....I'm going with that...her fault
We just drug our deer....chaining is downright dangerous...lol

I'm been trying to post my son's buck but it won't.. Thanks...
If you guys are bored head over to the elk page, I did a write-up of my elk hunt; it's the slippery mountain bulls with pictures.

LOL, just had to say something Grape.
Arrow, great animals. I have alway's wanted to do one of those spot and stalk hunts for giant muley's. I was always looking at those eastern Colorado hunts.
With next to no quality bucks in southern Ashland county I spend a lot of time else where. I have friends that left for Saskatchewan this morning . You guys that live and hunt in southern Wisconsin are blessed and lucky. I wish I would have been smarter and spent my money on land in southern Wisconsin then here. >>--->
Ridge Runner - Cool!
Congrats to all the hunters!!
Congrats to those successful hunters thus far. Grape, that photo is just scary... Looks like something from Chainsaw Masacre with the log chain around the buck and a death look in your eyes!
Ridge Runner: Tell your son, Congrats. The buck looks GINORMOUS with your grandson next to it! I always like hearing more on blood trails and am just curious as to what you found when cleaning the buck in terms of vitals being hit with the "low shot"... It sounds like you made the right call on holding out until next am.
Those are some really nice mulies....a great muley is a tremendous trophy.
Duke , The shot appeared to be just behind the heart and below lungs and in front of intestines No vitals appeared to be hit , Just seemed to be leaking blood steady (see pic) from the low holes. Wish I would have taken pic of carcass to get more opinions from you guys And little guy along has really been a blast ( if u noticed in his pic he had to bring along his knife to “cut the deer as he says” I have some great and funny videos of him on the recoveries if I can ever figure out how to post them Be a project after gun season J
Son just sent me pic he took of the shot (opinions)
Forgot to mention that I got one.
Down to the final hour huh Pete....nice.
Thanks guys. Hunted a different place. Have zero Intel on what was out there. A mature buck showed, and he fit the bill.
Pete! Congrats! What county?
Congratulations Pete. My wife knows where Rock county is - she went to Beloit College.
Nice buck Pete! My dog got lucky and made this kill today. Her first one! She brought him up on the deck proud as could be.
