Public land McDowell or Wyoming county?

Looking for somewhere to bow hunt in McDowell or Wyoming county on public land preferably not a wma any info helps thank you

Public land by definition is not the same as land open to public hunting. Pocahontas land has land holdings that are open to hunters. Heartwood Forest Land Fund owns the timber rights. It is Fund VI. However, you must be careful. Because Heartwood owns quite a bit of ground in both statewide and not much of it is open to hunting without a lease in place. These lands are designated as Heartwood Funds II and IV. So, if researching in tax books, you must distinguish between the two to be certain you are on the right ground. But, none of these holdings are Pubic Land.
There is no Public Land in these two county's that aren't WMA that I am aware of.

I wouldn’t automatically dismiss all of the WMAs. Most of them have good bucks to be found

There is thousands of acres in both counties that is private but the land companies have an open forest policy hunt all you want

Anything Pocahontas land owns or, is designated as Heartwood Forest Land Fund VI will be open. Unless it has a mining lease on it.

I am planning on hunting in those counties next fall. Are four wheelers allowed on the Pocahontas and heartwood forest land? Has anyone hunted R.D. Bailey? I’m looking at it now and plan to trek pretty far off the beaten path.
