Not to much chatter on this site, so I thought I'd throw this out. Tuesday is the last day for this year, and I'll be putting fresh cards and batteries in the cameras to see who made and who didn't. I have some pics of #1 buck at different times during gun season, but none of #2. Should have had him during bow season but he shied away from my decoy. I thought I had #2 in rifle season, but it turned out to be a stranger with a similar rack. Nice 8 point buck with a 19 inch spread, but he didn't have brown tines. I passed up this years #1 buck last year because he looked like he had promise, but #2 only popped up this summer. Oh well, there is always hope for next year.

I had three shooters this year. One of my shooters was killed, one of them I have pics from last night so he made it. And my biggest shooter is random and I got a pic of him on 12/3 - 5 days before the NZ season close. I am very confident he lived because there was very little hunting going on in 15" of snow. So am looking good for 2020.

Well, I'm not a trail camera guy. For those of you that are, that's fine. However, you need to realistically look at them. If you ONLY see the buck of your desire on camera in non-hunting hours, e.g. 7PM to 4AM you're kidding yourself. Hold out for him and that's great...get an opportunity every ten years or so. Personally, what I advocate is hunting an adult buck representative of the area you hunt. In the fairly heavily hunted areas I hunt that equates to a 2.5YO and perhaps a 3.5YO, regardless of bone. If I waited for a 140, 150, 0r 160 class buck I'd never kill another one. And I hunt many, many hours...being retired probably more than most.

Cornpone, The bucks I see are at best 130's. My cameras show me what's on my property. Some I see multiple years, and some are never seen after opening day of rifle. I usually have 1 or 2 that stand out as 2.5 or 3.5 year olds, but most are yearlings. I get enjoyment out of waiting for the best buck I can, and often eat tag soup, but that's my thing. My #2 this year was a 10 point that would only score 120 at best, but he had unique forked brow tines that made him a trophy in my book. Antlers are my thing just a bit above a love for venison jerky.
