Boulder County and Colorado Parks and Wildlife are cooperating on possible activities to control the summer numbers of elk, reduce conflicts, and influence distribution. The following goals will help guide management activities:

Improve highway safety conditions along US 36 and Nelson Road. Continue to work with agricultural tenants, farmers, and landowners to minimize elk-human conflicts and elk damage to private property. Prevent impacts to grassland sites, shrub stands, and forested areas in the high-use areas of Red Hill, natural lands east of US 36, and Table Mountain. Maintain a summering elk herd of no more than 25 animals based on historic numbers.

An open house is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 5, to discuss management options of the Red Hill elk herd and extending the Elk & Vegetation Management Plan at Ron Stewart Preserve.

Wednesday, Feb. 5 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Ron Stewart Parks & Open Space Building 5201 St. Vrain Road, Longmont

I'll be there wearing a BHA shirt and a dirty whitetail hat. Say hi. Will come back here with some observations from the meeting.

This is very much looking like it will happen. There was very little negative public input.
