Human-biting ticks can be active whenever conditions are right.

There is such a thing as a 'winter tick' - big ones that attach to moose but not humans.

Ticks suck.

My deer hunting boots are about 12 layers thick in permithrin, and on a walk a week ago behind the house, I was clean, but I looked down at the poor dog, and there were probably 5-8 that I could see. Got those off, and hiked out, tried the fine brush, found a few more on her. Thankfully she's treated, so hopefully they would have been short for this world, but I didnt want them coming in the house and finding a kid or what not.

Be safe out there every one!

Lunker wins the internet today! :)

and yes, 'winter ticks' are a subspecies that prey on moose....they have cause the recent crash in moose pop in NH VT and ME. unlike wood/dog and deer ticks who fill up on blood then drop off, these never drop and continuously feed on the host.

Gentlemen, no worries. I cant resist lures when they go by. It's all good. I'm in Kansas City, Kansas, for the Chiefs parade. It's really quiet here. Not sure why?

The hunting terrain looks awesome though. I think xbows are legal here too!

Meh, I'll just "rip up" my tag, it would be a long drive come fall.

C'mon now, this is straight hilarious :)!

When's thunder chicken open up? Anyone hearing any gobbles?

Thank You All. The info shared here ( between jabs of fun) is passed on. Just in case you wonder to whom: one of the kiddos is an Environmental Science Major at UCT. He mentioned this post, after the kids experienced what he called a “Tick Explosion” while checking trail cams. They brought the info to the instructors and precautions were taken. Much appreciated heads up to you guys. Cheers

That's awesome Q! There is a lot of knowledge and experience here, and a lot of legit science is shared among the anecdotes and subjective experiences. Good to hear the site has been helpful!

Tick info fraught with crossbow innuendos. I'm new to this forum and you guys are entertaining ; yet, you're respectful to each other. If we don't stick together the Antis will divide and conquer.

Warren and company much like winter ticks: fill up with blood but keep feeding on the host. It upsets them when they run out of our money meanwhile they all retire as multi gazillionaires. Socialism,as Churchill said, is the equal sharing of misery . (but not for it's leaders). JFK would puke if he could see what has become of his party.

Just because I dont post every five seconds doesnt mean I am not entitled to an opinion there Mr. Pi. Humor like music and women is subjective. Because you find something funny doesnt make it objectively humorous. I honestly dont really care all that much, it just seems like these days every damn thing turns into some bullshit political thing. I come to BOWSITE to get away from that. Being laid up after a surgery I am living vicariously through some of you guys who can still walk around in the woods collecting sheds, talking ticks etc.

Snake I hope you heal quickly so you can get out there. I plan on shed hunting for the first time over the long weekend. I also picked up my new bow and plan on getting some shots in. I think it's gonna be a real shooter. Keep posting and know your opinion counts as much as anybody.

Fran what kind of bow did you decide on ? Shed hunting is tough,or at least for me. I have been out a number of times this year and have only 1 old shed to show for it.. Earlyer this week I put on some miles too
