IF YOU CAN FIND IT, beef hamburger is now at around $7.50 a pound, China's pork prices are unbelievable, chicken prices on the rise. Everything that is a necessity is ridiculously over priced . The point at which people become irritated with it all, is fast approaching, they will soon go out and poach one of the STATES deer, and be damned the consequences, and I can't blame them, there are literally millions of people in this country wondering where their next meal is coming from. At the rate the economy is tanking, It is going to happen, believe me, if it continues it will happen, just as it did in the dirty thirties. People will not tolerate eatable wild animals running around and take one. They will just go get one. Don't get me wrong, I don't condone poaching, nor do I encourage it. BUT, people will do what they have to do to survive. Land owners be aware, it is not YOUR deer anyway, land owners be compassionate, it is not YOUR deer anyway, law enforcement be understanding. The Hugh majority of people on this site can well afford the inflated prices, but, there are those that don't have computers, jobs, and are not land owners on this site. Those that are more fortunate, be understanding if a situation arises, especially this time of year, when antlers are not the driving force. We are humans, and just how long will it be before beef is poached if the greed of the packers continue.

Hopefully people doing what they have to do to survive includes planting gardens, canning, processing road kills etc.

I prefer cat.
Have quite a bit of meat, and I turned my entire backyard into a garden a few yrs ago so I'm pretty good there in a month or so.
It's opening back up fellas, slowly yes. I've been in NE and IA this week, people are chomping at the bit to get going. I sell a product that's not a necessity, and couldn't be considered "essential" either, but it makes people smile! We're actually getting more web/call-in demand than all of last year.
Let's ROLL!

Yeah business down here has been really good. Thought it might slow down some but it has actually has sped up....crazy busy. I'm sure it will slow down in the future but right now it seems to be wide open.

I suppose the fat, lazy, city slickers would first resort to roadhunting those young steers next to the road with their latest AR-15 "build" before they would deer.

They are lazier than that. They'll probably light a pasture on fire and kill and cook 'em at the same time, those greedy bastards.

Try to find a up-right freezer anywhere. Heard here in Missouri that some processors are so far backed up on beef that they are not processing deer. Scheduling beef out thru early next year. One said De-boned deer only. I bought a couple pounds of 80% lean for $3.99 a pound yesterday.

Plenty of meat if all kinds in Planet Lawrence yesterday. Of course most of us are a bunch of tofu-eating vegans, anyway.

My brother and his wife stopped at Fanestils in Emporia yesterday as they usually have hamburger at half price on Tuesday. They did not have half price yesterday. It was $7.69 per pound. I am glad I cleaned 30 Crappie yesterday evening.

TwoDogs…..tell your brother and wife they were a day late...seeing how yesterday being Wed. might be the primary reason Fanestils wasn't running their "Tues." half-priced burger special?

We finally got a beef bought but it won't be butchered until October. Some places are booked into next year. Hogs can be bought pretty cheap but I'm not really up to butchering right now and of course you will get no cure.

My friend runs a small custom order beef operation that caters to repeat customers by Marion County. He can't take on new customers because the lockers are booked til November

Writer that sounds like most of my fishing. I always should have been there yesterday. For some reason my days run together, as I am fishing almost everyday after work and of course on weekends.
