Awesome, hasn't it been a while since your last Gila tag, 1st or 2nd hunt? I got mine yesterday as well.

"I got my Manzano deer tag today." January or September

January. From I've seen, the September hunting up in the old burn areas would be fantastic. I may do a little bear hunting/ scouting in September to check it out. For the January hunt I'm looking to the lower elevation areas. If you have any thoughts on rut behavior and elevation in the unit I'd love to hear it.

John, it’s been 11 years since I have drawn NM elk tag. I drew the second hunt.

I wish I had a Gila elk tag, or really just about any elk tag.

Haha your tag was my second choice, but don't worry it's in good hands. ;) I've been trying to draw a Sandia Mountains tag since I first drew one 20 years ago. Manzano Mountains is a pretty dang good consolation prize. I don't know the area nearly as well, but I've already made one scouting trip, and have another one planned this week with the cooler weather. I'm at least starting to get the lay of the land.
