Scouting for Turkey. How far in advance?

I am new to turkey hunting, and was wondering if its worth it to scout an area many months before season, or if the turkeys will be in a completely different area by that time.

Im new to it, but my opinion is start to now the terrain and conditions and locations they like. 4WD helps to scout the back country. I have spent long days hunting/scouting. It can't hurt and you will probably learn a lot. I tell you this much, I found it to be extremely challenging.
