Put my 7 cameras out last week and won't check them until the end of July. Saw a buck hit along the road, he looked like a yearling with 8 or 9 inches of antler. Anyone seeing anything yet?

Pulled my cards yesterday, and have a few bucks, but hard to tell their potential yet. I did get a pic that shows we lost one of the fawns though. Gotta get more aggressive with yote control.

Holy Mackerel Hammer, here in 8S, I'm seeing what Gaffer has, just starting to branch out. On a side note, when I was checking the cameras, I noticed Gypsy moths laying eggs on some trees. I killed 5 moths in a small area, and though they say it doesn't stop the hatch, I destroyed the egg masses. I've read that they can raise hell with trees, so google them and be on the look out when you're in the woods. Also be sure to clear grass etc from around your camera. I put my cameras out and didn't clear vegetation away for several days. One card had over 15,000 pic, all but 75 were grass waving in the wind.

Checked my cameras on the 26th, and had only a couple of pics that looked interesting. One was a yearling that had broken his right antler, should look interesting hard horned. The other is what might be my #1 from last year, but hard to tell. Other than that, all rag horned yearlings. I hope the rut brings some good strangers onto the property.

Any guess what the Tall Tines August 9 buck would score? I included the front, side and back view pictures.

Nice buck, did you have any other pics to judge the size? What part of NY?

This is in 4H, no other good pictures for comparison, mostly night pics. My experience would put him at 180 - 200 lbs easy.

Wow what a let down. The 4X4, and 5X3 are the two best bucks on the property. A far cry from the 10 with split brows and super 8 from last year. There are 6 rag horns the eldest might be 2 1/2, the rest are yearlings. My only hope is that the rut brings in some strangers to visit the 7 or 8 mature does that fill my cameras with thousands of pic's.

After seeing only yearlings on camera all summer and fall, I was hoping more mature bucks would show up during the rut. Friday afternoon I caught a glimpse of a better buck 200 yards across the field. I check the camera he walked past to get a better look. Well, it turns out he's quite a ham. I have 16 pic's of him in one bunch. Not the age class I'm looking for but he has potential.

8point in regards to Gypsy moths put it this way here in MA we had them bad around 4-5 years ago and I have spots with dead oak trees and zero acorns since. Bad is an understatement it’s unreal what they did. We had so many caterpillars you could actually hear them eating and pooping off the trees it sounded like rain.

Pulled some cards yesterday, and saw this guy. I think I have pics from the velvet stage and has he changed. It looks like he could be a physical fitness instructor He's nothing but front end to the point that his head looks small. Man has he been working out.

No surprise to me. In the 1960’s NY had a bounty on bobcats. The cats slaughtered the deer on Tug Hill while in their wintering yards. The deep snow made easy picking for the cats. My uncles and some other houndsman extirpated the cats on Tug Hill. The author Robert Elinkas book, “The Old Days in the Adirondacks and on Tug Hill,” there’s a chapter dedicated to my uncles and there cat hunting partners. They killed 20 - 30 cats each winter for many years until there were few if any cats left. The cats are back on Tug Hill, but in low numbers. Coyotes have taken their place in killing all age classes of deer.

Good stuff Wayne...I grew up just East of Tug....know what you mean. I have Roberts books and even got a short bow kill story printed in one...
The cats are solidly present in Madison Co.
