Hunting in 410

Hi. I have been lucky and pulled a tag for 410 Archery Elk. I was hoping to get some information on this area. I am from Pa. and I have hunted elk in Colorado and Montana. I will be heading to Montana around the 15th of September and stay till the first week of October. I was to have a friend from Montana join me who new the area well and was going to help me but has recently passed away. I have never hunted this area and was looking at the area around Crooked Creek. Are there any good places to camp . I have heard the warnings of the mud, bugs and the people. I am just looking for a place to camp and hunt some wapiti.

I was down there on the river last week, the mosquitoes were pretty bad

There is plenty of public land so finding a camp spot should be no problem. If you prefer an established campsite there is a large BLM campground with fee sites on the north side of 410 along the Missouri River. The BLM campground is located in the Charles Russell NWR, off highway 191, beneath the bridge that divides units 410 and 621. Hope this helps.
