If i gotta keep clicking the close pop up button constantly to get past the ads I am pretty much outa here. Yeah, I know “good, we never wanted ya anyway”. but still. Gotta be a better way to make coin off this site than making it painful to navigate.
I'm with you. I know they gotta pay bills somehow but this is over the top annoying.
I have been on this site since 1997 and will accept the fact, who pays to have this site available? I support you Pat. my best, Paul
just sayin’. Am I the only one thinking even the tiny white on light grey “x” to close the ad is hidden in an overt attempt to maximize the effort required to find close it and thus maximize the time the ad is between you and what you come on this site for?
Maybe and why not, but at least there is an option to delete the ad. Actually there might be an ad, ie, new stuff one might be interested. Thanks for pointing that out. Paul
I initially thought the pop ups were a big pain but they turned out to be a little pain...I can live with it.
Much better than the "Archery Specific Fitness Program" non-ad!!! Glad that BS pulled it.
I guess I just don't get it. Do advertisers really think that annoying us with these types of ads will make us want to buy their products? I couldn't even tell you who is advertising. I click the damn things off as fast as I can.
Actually I took the time to look at all of the ads. And now, just a easy click away.
What Ziek said. Furthermore what is more annoying are the guys who pretend or actually think the ads aren't annoying. Does anyone actually enjoy them? Does anyone actually want them to stay, you know, since they are no problem?
If you buy the premium subscription to Bowsite, you can opt out of the ads...
I agree, every friggin time i read a thread i have to close out crap, i feel used here BOWSITE....
Gosh darn it, I want my free Bowsite and I want it the way I like it! LOL
So far the lifetime subscribers haven't had to deal with it.
To answer Pecos question I am enjoying the ads and I want them to stay for good mostly due to the fact guys crying about them entertains me but also because I like this sight being here
Ads are annoying, no Bowsite would be more annoying. I like to keep things simple.
fubar, The ads are even more annoying on my phone. The "X" is too damn small and when I try to close out the ad I end up opening it.
Only thing I use is a phone very much a non issue. If its to small try using your fingers to zoom in
Would be better if the adds actually had something interesting...
Well Tavis, hard to make an ad for a stick and piece of string interesting! :)
I understand the advertisers are important to Bowsite. But, they don't need to take up half of my computer screen to do it.
Just plain annoying!!!!
"If its to small try using your fingers to zoom in"
So now I have to zoom before I click to get to the info. Nope.
I agree, this is over the top. It will be interesting to see how many of us stick around.....
Lol yall are cute I spose you could always build your own sandbox to play in instead of playing in pat n Charlie's if ya dont like it anymore
I am extremely annoyed by these ads. There is no doubt that I have reduced my visits to bowsite because of this.

They won't stop me from using bowsite, but if anyone happens to find an app that will block them, especially on phones with Safari, post it here. So far I found that neither one of the most popular blocking apps.....Adblock nor Adblocker Ultimate, will eliminate them on a PC.
I used to visit here daily. Now, about once a week because of the ads. I understand doing this to generate $ to survive the pandemic, but how much you wanna bet they NEVER go away.

Well, I guess I lost that bet. Thanks Pat fro a great site.
Yes sir! Thanks for deleting the adds. They were a royal pain in the poop chute.
The most important thing I accomplished in 12 months. A successful campaign against those pop ups. LOL
...yes for the literalists out there swarming bowsite, I know I had no impact. But am glad the ads are gone.
Don't hold your breath...

I guess I spoke too soon.
That didn't last long. (the adds being gone)
I just signed a Bowsite contract :) to eliminate these ads on my computer which will cost me $10 per month. A win-win. Money to help maintain Bowsite and the lost of the ads on the page. Money well spent as a free member since 1997 and one who checks out Bowsite daily and will continue to do so, ads or no ads. :) my best, Paul :)
Dang Paul,
That is a hell of a deal! Worth every penny! Where do I sign up???
Highway robbery. But certainly do respect and support their right to set it up to pay $$ to opt out of ads...$120/yr seems a bit steep.
For $120 I think I want a useable search feature. If you can hardly finds old posts and info anyway the site could be cheaper to operate if they simply toss anything over a year old. Can't use what you can't find. Never understood search feature was scuttled along the way.
"For $120 I think I want a useable search feature." X2

I get it. It costs money to operate this site and times are tough in the advertising world and all over. Unfortunately, I'm afraid I have to announce that I will have to start charging for my content contributions to this site. :^)
Hmmm wonder why other sites are flourishing without pop up ads????
Popup ads or not, Bowsite just sucks hind tit anymore.
I’m out
"Popup ads or not, Bowsite just sucks hind tit anymore"
Mostly agree, just kinda got outcompeted by hunt talk and some others over time when to me this used to be the #1 place to connect with likeminded bowhunters. I get it, those other sites are really funded by media products and outlets and other products they drive business to. Bowsite does not have that kind of sugar daddy that I know if. As a bowhunter I post lengthy photo dense hunt stories elsewhere anymore that I use to enjoying posting here, such as recent sheep, goat, antelope, elk and other hunts.
I mostly check in here out of habit and continued interest in some of the Colo bowhunters have gotten to know over the years.
The robust search feature of other sites is one of the key reasons I traffic more on other sites these days. The content I and others take a lot of time to create is 'forever' easily searched, seen and enjoyed (or not) and the educational and interesting info I want from a forum is equally easy for me to dig up. I do not have to catch it while the thread is active in order to find and enjoy it.
Not sure I ever heard why Bowsite dumped what had been a great search feature and landed on a model where search is so sorely lacking. To me it says "Your reward for taking the time and effort to post a cool story or share great content is it will have a super short life, and limited audience as it gets buried so deep it will be hard to find (even by you) after a couple months.
Where I have landed on this, I guess, is how on earth can Bowsite, in its business strategy ignore this obvious critical core value element of searchable archives so the treasure trove of info can be used repeatedly. This place ain't twitter and the content is not really intended for a 2 minute half life?
I am expressing these views b/c I WANT Bowsite to improve and thus be used more and compete better.
Khunter,
Where are the sheep, goat, antelope and elk hunts posted? :) The pop up ads covered the search button....:)
google khunter sheep. and pops right to the top. on that forum one could search threads started by Khunter and see ‘em all.
The reason for no working search feature here might be that this site is "hand made". The other hunting talk sites use pre-packaged bulletin board software that has all those capabilities built in. Maybe the creation of the code needed to continuously index the content on this website, and then considering the bandwidth needed to maintain that sort of engine, are too much for management to take on?
Google does index this site. I've had good luck with this on google "site:forums.bowsite.com" followed by the search words.
Shame too. Met some good people from this site and got a lot of good advice when I first moved west and got into mountain hunting.
sticksender, maybe. However, Leatherwall is part of this site (I think), and that search function works great (and it isn't hidden.) If the search function doesn't work, get rid of it. Get rid of all the stuff that doesn't work. It can't be that hard to delete them (search function and the CF)
