Got one Sunday morning, looks like I shot her with a harpoon or something. It's just the arrow entered and ricocheted backward thru the diaphragm so she bled internally. She took her last breath on a hillside a couple hundred yards away spilling the blood all at once. Anyway, got my doe and some meat to jerky for my trip to MO.

By the way, really nice buck Josh. Nice pose too! I never get a pose, just a pic with my bow next too it. Most could say, how do I know it was you who shot it? Well, when it comes to hunting I have a photographic memory. In my mind, I know.

Kilt this 4 point this morning. I was ready to shoot a big spike. It would have made my 30th consecutive spike with my recurve In 30 years. As I was ready to draw this 4 point came in and chased the spike up over the mountain. Oh well. A bird in the hand

Friday evening, 2 does and a spike came into my plot, one was exceptionally large. I waited 20 minutes or so before the big doe finally presents a shot. 27 yards quartering away, great shot but no exit wound. Spent about 30 minutes searching for blood, I decide to come back in the morning. I find maybe a dozen specs of blood just enough to surmise where she must have went, found her 200 yards down the wooded hillside, luckily the woods are fairly open there. It's amazing how she went that far with one destroyed lung and a fairly large hole in the other.

Congrats to all, especially Babysaph and Hookman. You stick bow guys seem to be more about the hunt than the horn. Sometimes I think that got lost along the way, although I'd like to get a big one some year. I'm from Ohio but I'm half West Virginian. My dad is from Beckley mom was from in Ohio. I've always felt I belonged down there. I enjoy visiting the WV site.

Welcome old Reb. Yes I like to eat deer meat and love the challenge of getting close. I am not picky here in WV. Just like to hunt and eat deer meat. Don't get me wrong I will shoot a big one if given the chance but where I hunt the odds are slim. Most of the nice ones get shot in August and September where I hunt.

Congrats to your grandson Greg. I took my granddaughter out Saturday evening and she missed a dandy 10 point at 35 yards. Pappy didn't do well as I got overly excited and I think it caused her to get shook. We were in a ground blind. Again, congratulate him for me!

My son Jack took a nice Ohio buck on Oct. 4th. His first whitetail with his compound bow. He has taken several deer during gun season and took a similar buck with a crossbow when he was 14. It was a long time coming for him to get a whitetail bow kill. He did get a bow kill on a pronghorn antelope in Wyoming in 2016. We're up here in northern Ohio in Huron County. I was one proud Poppa when we got to the end of that blood trail.

Guys I've been gone from the site for a while... I from time to time looked at our deer being taken in the state, and I wanted to post this year and congratulate all of the lucky hunters across the state. But also to caution everyone at how Hard Fought a price your bow hunting privileges have come. We must NOT take the sport we love so much for granted. I have had my best year EVER in the WV woods, and thanks to a newly fought for law I recovered a buck that was shot lethally, but left only 4 spots of blood. Ron Miller took time out of his schedule with Lacy and Jack and found the oldest deer I've ever shot. and 4 days later I harvested the buck that I was hunting the area for. What a blessing and satisfaction of scouting, placing a stand and then having an opportunity to be able to harvest your target animal. I hope that all here have a great rest of your year, and In this terrible Pandemic time that this finds all of you and your families healthy.
