Any more info on this bear....720 lbs field dressed is a whopper, bordering on a inland Grizzly sized bear.

From: Huntcell

CONGRADULATION!!! to the young lady for making for holding her composure and making a one shot kill. sort of unfortunate the article focus on record size this, record that. saved everything to be official, bkah blah blah, disappointed weight isn't used, ah darn have to wait now see if skull will be big enough, give it a rest grandpa.

actually this black bear is bigger than an average inland grizz........ from Wikipedia: "Most adult female grizzlies weigh 130–180 kg (290–400 lb), while adult males weigh on average 180–360 kg (400–790 lb). ........ One study found that the average weight for an inland male grizzly was around 272 kilograms (600 pounds....."

Yowza!! Heck of a bear!

22-Sep-20
I saw a Facebook post from the grandpa about how they had written Boone and Crocket and Pope and Young with pictures of the bear on two certified scales along with pictures of the guts and they hoped they would declare it a record.

I have to believe that the meat from that bear went bad. In that weather cooling even an average bear down is a challenge. Hauling that bear all over creation to weigh it and try and get a non-existent record surely spoiled the meat.

Here's some pictures. The bear's DW was #718.5 and 820 LW. Preliminary skull measurement was 22".

From: Muskybuck
22-Sep-20
I don't even bear hunt and I know it's all about the skull and not weight. I hope all that meat was not wasted because of Gramp's ego.

From: Hoot
22-Sep-20
Musky- You are correct. This skull 22" won't even be even close after the drying period. I believe the Wi state record is 23 & 5/16.

From: blackwolf
22-Sep-20
Hoot, how close to real skull size can they get before head is skinned out? Or was their 22" after skinning, just that they may be guessing and it could be bigger until meaured precisely.

From: MjF
22-Sep-20
Its after skinning and I believe drying period. As far as meat being spoiled, probably not, people assuming things, this is how rumors start and can ruin things for people involved.

From: Hoot
22-Sep-20
I'm sure they measured it after skinning, but it's still not a close measurement.

22-Sep-20
Congratulations to the young lady . Trophy of a lifetime. that is a giant bear.

A 22-in black bear is a giant bear anyone would be happy with. But probably not a state record.

Are those game wardens dressed up like they are on their way to Iraq? Yeesh maybe they just have a Rambo complex? No wonder we have people don't trust LE. I guess checking fishing licenses got a bit harder. 3 of them there to get in the photo? Enough said

From: Drop Tine
22-Sep-20
Considering the scum they run into alone in remote areas what they have for equipment is fully understandable.

Keep watching CNN

From: Huntcell
22-Sep-20
Please submit photos of appropriate clothing for game wardens.

Absolutely you can include uniform for checking fisherman , uniform for bowhunters , gun , office wear, etc.

You think Ballistic vest are also inappropriate for wardens having to deal with armed outdoors people?

Scum like a 11 year old girl in the woods? Congrats to her! But c'mon LE drop the showboating stuff at least for the photo op.

Trickle Rut please just shut your mouth. You make no sense lol No, seriously, you really don't.

From: Trickle rut
22-Sep-20
The point is grabbing the spotlight from her. Front and center dressed up like Rambo. What part did they take in this harvest? But no they are taking credit front and center! Not 1 not 2 but 3 of them. 1 there OK. But 3 glory hounds. While the family stands back.

Just seen this title for click to story on national news feed:

WISCONSIN GIRL, 11, HARVEST BLACK BEAR WEIGHING OVER 700 POUNDS, IS HOPING TO TAKE STATE RECORD

I provide no link because it’s getting embarrassing for all concerns false trophy seeking . Foolishness needs reigning in.

From: Nocturnal II
22-Sep-20
If they were indeed grabbing the spotlight from "her" then she wouldn't have been in the picture. Maybe they were just as amazed seeing such a magnificent animal taken and wanted to be part of her success in the smallest of ways? Maybe its a good thing to have a friendly relationship with other hunters? Especially with young hunters such as herself? Maybe your just too envious about this whole thing and it makes you come off bitter? There is always one here and today it is you. Maybe you should.. >>>>

Check with PPE officer standards. Maybe you would understand the purpose on why? As if everything that is going on in this world isn't enough. UNBELIEVABLE

From: Trickle rut
22-Sep-20
3 of them?? Shoot the county I live in only has two full time agents. Making goodwill? OK maybe I'd buy that. But 3 of them lined up like the Lennon sisters? The photo shouts "cause of us this happens" should be her and gramdpanin the photo with maybe a officer politely off to the side to show legal deal. Not 3 taking up and taking credit. Again WTF did they have to do with this hunt? Nothing.

From: happygolucky
22-Sep-20
Noc, don't waste your time. Remember, he's a proud vocal member of the democratic socialistic party and they want to defund the police. I don't think he's a fan of any law enforcement officers. Imagine the DNR going out to check on a monster bear in WI and posing for a picture. Wow, how terrible. Chances are people asked them to get in the picture.

22-Sep-20
Trickle stop eating the lead paint chips.

.those vests are pretty common nowadays. They stand out because the wardens are wearing grey undershirts and make the vests standout.

Outer vests provide better air flow / less sweat. It also allows the ability to move equipment from the hips to the vest saving the officer wear and tear on the hips and back.

But I'm guessing you b!tch and moan no matter what the officers were wearing.

My best,

DM

From: skookumjt
22-Sep-20
They are required to wear them in the field. Even if they weren't, they should wear them just like every other LEO should. You never know what is going to wrong or when. Kind of like concealed carrying with an empty chamber. If you really need a gun for self defense, you don't have time to chamber a round first.

From: Gunny
22-Sep-20
Trickle Rut, you can make all these assumptions by a photo?

I trust Law Enforcement, I want them funded, and who cares if they pose for a picture. Maybe she wanted them in the photo.....

Awesome bear.

From: Screwball
22-Sep-20
I don't know my thoughts were, She wanted a picture with them, they wanted a picture and she has one also. But in reality it is not that big, look she long arms it, the ears are dropping, etc. Always has to be a jackwang in the crowd to stir crap up. Great on her and Grandpa, all should be proud, if they choose to show it great. Couldn't be happier for them.

From: MjF

I think they were there to verify everything being a record beat. I mentioned in another thread and this is a prime example “Big bears and Big bucks are nothing but trouble”. I’m just happy for the girl and every one involved.

From: Muskybuck

You’re right, retro. I’ll blame grandpa‘s ego instead on the angle the writer of the article took emphasizing this giant bear. ;)

From: Mnhunter1980
22-Sep-20
Awesome bear! Congrats to her and her grandpa!

If I ever got an animal or fish that was of this proportion , any and all LEO’s are welcome to take pictures in full riot gear with or with out me in it. :)

From: Bloodtrail
23-Sep-20
The vests the two wardens are wearing are utility vests as you can see the amount of gear they carry. The Warden on the far right is wearing a conventional gun belt. Some Officers opt for the vest minus the added weight and some discomfort the conventional gun belt causes to some officers. All backs are not built the same and the vest can be for some...be more comfortable and practical.

It has nothing to do with being or dressing like "Rambo" and everything about the wearing of normal everyday gear vest vs gun belt. Gun belts can be and are heavy!

From: happygolucky
23-Sep-20
Trickle rut is simply a radical left wing nut who does not back our blue but does back the protests over BLM. He makes that more clear with his disparage of those LEOs in the picture. Remember he backed the "protests" in Kenosha but bashed the kid who came up from Waukegan. He bashed Walker many times while he posted under his other monikers and he totally supports Evers and his cronies. He seems to ruin every thread he touches.

From: Franklin

Good one Retro....lmao. Thank God I didn`t mention parading the bear around in the heat and the hair slips.

I saw the mount of the 765 lb Wisc. bear and it was one of the most impressive things I have seen....and I have seen 1000`s of trophy mounts.

We should all support our fellow hunters and be proud of the animals our great state produces. Magnificent animal!

Yep, some are in constant Misery.

From: Tweed

Heard that the DNR has confiscated the bear pending an investigation.

Supposedly (and I can be wrong) a cinderblock (non-natural material) at the bait site.

From: Screwball
13-Oct-20
Tweed i this straight up or not?

From: skookumjt
13-Oct-20
I would find it hard to believe.

From: Tweed
13-Oct-20
That's what I "heard" via Larry Polenske

Maybe someone from the Black River Falls area would know more.

From: GoJakesGo
13-Oct-20
I've read similar info on fb about it being investigated for some sort of baiting infraction

From: Hoot
13-Oct-20
Tweed - Sounds like a story to me. Even if they had a mineral block in their bait stump it wouldn't be illegal. I'm not quite understanding the non-natural material thing. I believe baiting for deer is legal in Jackson County so when was this to supposedly happen.

From: Tweed
13-Oct-20
That's all it is now is a story.

The cindrblock was allegedly used on top of the bait lid to keep raccoons out.

Even if true I hope there is someway the young lady can keep something.

From: Franklin
13-Oct-20
I can imagine what was thru the bear`s mind when he looked at the bait....."oh goody....cinderblock my favorite".

This is why many have poor views of our DNR and many would never advertise taking a trophy/record class animal. The BS just isn`t worth it.

If it`s called "common sense" why is it so uncommon.

From: skookumjt
13-Oct-20
You guys aren't understanding. Bear baits have to be inaccessible to deer and other wildlife. Either in a hole covered with logs or a stump covered with a rock are the two most common methods. You have to use natural materials. No plywood, cinder blocks, etc.

I don't think using illegal materials would mean forfeiture of the animal.

I know there are several proposals being discussed that could change these regulations.

From: Hoot
13-Oct-20
Sorry I misread Tweeds post. Didn't see cinderblock, I thought he was talking about a mineral block.

From: Screwball
13-Oct-20
I will be surprised if they find the bait was illegal that they do not confiscate the bear. A hunter doing it legal and right missed an opportunity at the animal will be the rational.

From: MjF
14-Oct-20
If using any man-made materials as part of the bait station such as a cinderblock, plywood, metal lid, rag soaked in scent, peanut butter, and other baits smeared on trees, it will be considered an illegal bait station. Ive watched so many of these illegal bait stations posted in Wisconsin bear hunting youtube videos its incredible. I am hoping this is just a rumor and thats all it is but if it is not, shame on the parent or whoever is responsible for that bait station for not following the rules and regulations.

From: Franklin
14-Oct-20
The "cinderblock" has zero to do with the harvesting of the bear....to believe otherwise is asinine.

If you hollow out a stump for bait is that considered "man made" and would a nature made hollowed out stump vs a man made hollowed out stump make a difference in the harvesting of a bear?

From: MjF
14-Oct-20
Ohhhh boy

From: Trickle rut
14-Oct-20
That's kinda sorta why I questioned at the beginning of this thread why the posse of wardens? Then I got kneecapped, told I have some alter ego, by a few here. I assume they smelled a issue already when this photo was taken.

From: Tweed
14-Oct-20
That's not the reason Trickle. Look at your first comments on this thread.

From: Nocturnal II
14-Oct-20
Tweed exactly....

From: Franklin
15-Oct-20
I have to hand it to Trickle, that was the best "spin" I have seen since Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.

If they committed and infraction then issue them a ticket, but to confiscate a kids bear would be borderline criminal. I don`t know if we can take anymore embarrassment from our DNR.....I`m still trying to recover from the "masked Zoom call" debacle...lol

From: Screwball
15-Oct-20
