The senate republicans passed HB 4332 and is waiting for the Gov signature. This allows the use of the Air Gun in archery season by the disabled and general use in gun season. This is the beginning of the end for traditional archery season as we know it. I sent my Senate rep an email and told him I will not be voting for him in Nov and I sent the gov an email and asked her not to vote this bill into law.

The beginning to the end of bow and arrow hunting in Michigan started way before this air weapon. Most in Michigan already use the scoped and cocked crossbow during the general archery seasons, and we all know the technological and hunter progression to that outcome. It is sad Jon, but the bow and arrow season is already doomed.
Heading out hunting tonight with my self bow and cedars, very much in the minority.

We all know how this is played......allowed for the disabled in archery season today, allowed for everybody tomorrow. All because some survey or study that the DNR conducted that said it has no ill effect on the overall whitetail population.

FWIW...where I'm at in Northern Michigan.....I've only seen a handful of crossbow hunters on public land over the years. The rest have been compound or trad. Can't speak for the private land numbers.

The DNR /NRC wants all the deer shot, and they will do whatever they can to get it done.

So far, here in western Iron County, and Gogebic, I have not seen a lot of bowhunters, and I am out tramping all the time, with the dog, on birds. Grouse hunting has been good. But very few xbow shooters, go pass 100 yards off any road.
The younger hunters I see are all into the compound, yet. They are driven by social media now, which is okay, its their time........
The air bow, should only be allowed during a gun season. The NRC is out of touch.

Well the Gov veto'd the bill. Gone for now but these people are like little kids and school board's who want tax increases they will keep coming back until they get their way.

I'm wondering why she vetoed the bill. Is it because she is anti-hunting, or pro-hunting? To the outsider, it looks like she is anti-hunting, but to the bow hunter, pro. Or, maybe because it was a Republican bill.

I'm just glad she did.

I am leaning towards it was a republican bill. All republicans and one demorat were for it. I contacted my rep (Bumstead) and told him I would never vote for him again because he supported the bill.

She said the way it was written, it would be a regulation nightmare. There were no rules as to how, or who determines if the Hunter is handicapped, or what level of handicap was needed.
