Cold front is coming in tonight. Hope it changes things for the good. Good luck to all.
We had 82 degrees today. At 9:00 pm, it is raining like heck. I will be starting to hit it on Monday.
Still in the low 60s as I’m setting up this morning. Good luck everybody. Be safe.
Son just called. He popped a ‘yote!!
May have to sit all day. I’ve seen 7 bucks and a doe. The doe appears to be coming into heat based on the attention she is getting. Grunting, snort wheezing and fighting all on display. Good luck everyone.
It was 50 degrees here at 6 AM. Front came through with some more rain after it got light and it dropped into the low 40s (still is at noon). I saw a small buck come out of a weed field, walk around our big pond, cross the dam and go up on the hill to the oak trees.
This has been the slowest season I've seen in a long time. Largest buck seen so far is a Y buck. Absolutely zero activity. Come on cool weather. Was 60 degrees at 6 am this morning.
Climbed into the stand at about 6:25 this morning Sat til 12:15, when the wind changed to a bad direction I got down. I saw 7 different bucks with a doe, and didn’t want to mess the spot up. Climbed back into another stand at 2:15 and took this buck at 5:30. He came in to a grunt call.
Way to go Brian! I had too many old man things I had to do today or I would have stayed out all too. LOL. I agree with Olink on this week only. But it is always this way here the third week. Looking forward to Rut coming this week.
Congrats BSKED! Sounds and looks like a good day in the woods.
Beautiful buck, congratulations. I seen 6 does for the day and heard 2 grunts. no chasing at all.
That’s a nice buck Brian-congrats! Yeah, might have to do a couple all-day sits this week! ;-)
Thanks for the kind words. Been an off year on the properties I hunt. No mast crop, and no buck sightings. Yesterday was like a light switch was turned on. Most of my big bucks have been killed between 10/25 and 10/31. Pre rut when they are roaming looking for does. It was a fun day in the woods, for sure. Now I’m over in Jersey. I need another doe on this property before I can shoot a buck. They have been hard to come by this year.
Congrats! Great buck...Hoping to start getting out there this week. Kids online and sports and work have kept me to hunting only a few evenings so far. Hopefully I can get my butt out there for some AM hunts this week. Good luck fellas...
Great buck Brian, congrats!
Wet here this morning. Interesting afternoon. There was a doe in the field near my stand so I cut through a patch of woods and sat on a stump in an ambush spot below the stand. Within 15 minutes a I saw a 4 point go by and before a 5 another small buck came out of the cattails and straight up past me. An hour after that another 4 point popped out of the woods and started up the mowed portion of the hollow. He responded to some doe bleats and passed within 15 yards of me before quitting time. Hope this leads to more acton this week.
Well, hopefully the "big boys" start getting more active later this week! ;-)
Congrats on the dandy buck, Brian!
Kathy saw 2 does and a decent buck this morning. It was a nice windless morning for a change. I even caught a 20 minute nap. No deer tho.
Was Kathy in a stand Art?
3 does being chased by a 4 point buck just before dark this evening.
Rut and I are waiting for it to stop raining then we are going out. Kathy is waiting for November to get here like last year.
I am hoping to get out for an evening sit and check a camera in a spot I haven't been to in a couple weeks. Hopefully the activity picked up there. It was in a couple of my other spots.
Chasing Bigtime in Clarion Co this morning! Only been on stand 2 hrs and have already seen 2 bucks chasing (75y out) and had a high forkie come in with a button buck. Forkie walked off and button is bedded 17y to my left!. If only it was a mature Doe........................
UPDATE: bb was bedded under me for over 2 hrs- guess my scent control is good. No other deer after 12, so moved at 1:30. Sitting just inside woods off a field now. Would like to put a doe down for buck lure! ;-)
Can you see it’s snout? (Next to the trunk of the bigger tree above the yellow leaves. : )
It's been a slow start for my son and I this year. I was finally able to break the ice tonight.
That looks like a nice one Gene- Congrats!
Nothing moving this afternoon for Art or me.
Dropped Doe #2 last night at 5pm, saw 10 total, no bucks.
I'm sitting in a blind this morning then planning to switch to a different one for evening. Supposed to rain all day. But saw one out in field as we were coming out. They said it might stop for last hour.
Art's in a blind on backside of this strip of woods. Hopefully one of us catches a big boy out "trolling" for doe! ;-)
I didn't see anything either. Never stopped raining until 4:30, kinda.
Saw 2 bucks this afternoon. One small 5 pt snuck thru the hedgerow 30y in front of me. He was moving quickly. About an hour later had a shooter buck come up the edge of the field on a line to cross 15-20y in front of me. Unfortunately when it got to the corner of the field it turned instead of coming thru the hedgerow. It walked up past my blind but just out of range so I grunted several times. It stopped and looked my way, but eventually continued up the hill. SO CLOSE! I was SO ready to let one fly had it crossed into the hedgerow!
Hopefully tomorrow everything comes together. ;-)
P.S. Saw 10 deer in 2 days and 7 of them were buck- gotta LOVE this time of year!
I messed with a coyote for 20 minutes at 50 yards and saw 3 does and a little buck. Rut and I sure did have a fun day, but I will let him tell you the story. WOW!
WHAT a morning! : )
Decided to move over about 70y from the ladder I was in on Wednesday to where I saw most of the deer traveling. I took my climber in but apparently my gps needed calibrating(compass) and could not find the tree I had marked on Wednesday. I saw deer eyes in the distance, so didn’t go any farther and picked a tree. It was well before sunrise so I figured there was time for things to settle down. Got up in the tree and waited for it to get light. A little after 7:30 I hear deer running in behind me- the lead doe stopped right below me before I could draw- it looked up and might have skylined me and took off again with the other 2 skirting me just out of range. About 5 min later they come trotting back up out of range and past me. (Think the Coyote chased them back up from Art’s stand)
About 15 min later I see a big doe and fawn working my way. Momma got to about 22 and I let one fly. She ran about 50y and crashed.
Nocked another arrow and sat down. Not 10 min later I hear and then see 2 deer coming from the opposite direction (behind me). A buck tending a doe- not chasing like the other day, just following her. Both were out of range so I hit the grunt tube. The buck looked my way and I hit it again and on the second grunt it left the doe and started coming in. At 20y it turned and stopped and I shot him! 2 deer in less than 10 min................doesn’t get much better than that! ;-)
Had a bit of a FUBAR (long story) and hit way back so we had to leave it for awhile- it made it further than expected considering the amount of blood. But we ended up finding it dead about 3pm. Said a lot of prayers and glad I had my good buddy Art to help track. Was NEVER so glad to find a deer in my life! ;-)
And SO blessed to have a good friend that shares his beautiful property with us! : )
Congrats, what a great day
Congratulations, Perry! What a beautiful buck and so cool you were able to shoot a doe 10 minutes prior! Unreal, and a morning you will never forget! Now you owe Art, BIGTIME!! ;)
Thanks guys! It was a morning we LIVE for as Bowhunters! After I shot the buck I was tagged out(in 2D) and just sat there and watched Deer for the next 2 hours. Had the little button buck from Wed. Come in and another couple doe and a spike buck. Think I didn’t go more than 20 min without seeing deer!
You ain’t kidding Josh! Art is up tomorrow.....................I will be hunting bear and turkey(half-heartedly) now and on STANDBY.............as Art’s designated dragger! ;-)
Told you so. We are up and here we go again. Not a cloud in the sky.
Way to go Rut. Were you wearing your Snake boots?
Thanks Brian. Of course! : )
Congratulations Perry! That's a great morning!
That’s a great day Rut, congratulations!
Thanks guys- I am still smiling! : )
Awesome, Perry! Congrats! Art is the definition of a good friend on multiple levels.
Dalton and I sat in a blind tucked into the edge of a cornfield Friday evening. Had an old 3D buck target decoy at 13 yards. Rattled and grunted at 530. 20 minutes later two young does popped out of the woods and started eating corn. I told Dalton that was a good sign that momma was not with them. Rattled and grunted again at 6 and had a small 7 point respond. He timidly circled downwind about 40 yards in the brush. Dalton said, “ I’m so excited I just peed a little!” Eventually the buck sensed something was amiss and vacated the area quietly. I told Dalton that the way he acted, he knows he’s pretty low in the buck dominance rankings and that maybe a bigger one was around. Well, maybe there was, but light soon faded and we had to call it a night.

CONGRATULATIONS PERRY ! That Art is a helluva guide!!!
THANKS and AMEN guys! Art is “one of a kind!” And when he talks bowhunting(especially on his land) we LISTEN! ;-) He knows that property like the back of his hand, and he knows the critters’ habits/tendencies there!
Dalton said, “ I’m so excited I just peed a little!” That is GREAT! : ) You are teaching him well, Curtis- keep up the good work!
Rut, congrats on the double. That was an exciting morning. Hope you marked the tree you ended up sitting in on the gps.
Thanks Jethro! To answer your question...............
Way to go Perry, congrats on some great deer!
Just checked some trailcam pics that Art showed us when we were there in Aug. I think he got it on trailcam on July 18
