Uh Oh, Bruce Webber and 1-5 Cats already mailing it in. Poor Div 2 Fort Hays State can’t even get their logo included with the score and their big time win.
KU is always going to get everyone’s best shot. It’s easier for a bad basketball team to beat a great basketball team versus a bad football team beating a great football team. At the moment, KU isn’t a great basketball team. But it’s Bill Self coaching and come February, they’ll be firing on all cylinders.
Hope so....the Big 12 needs KU to be a good b-ball team like they need OU to be a good football team. If KU ain’t up to the task this year it’s looking like Baylor and Texas just might be?
Frank.....even though Sooners and Buckeye's have had some recent history (Sooners with Baker Mayfield and Trey Sermon whooping up on the Meyer coached Buckeyes in Columbus, OH ala Flag Planting at midfield 2017)…..I do indeed hope the Buckeye's take the SEC's one-team league Bama to the woodshed tonight. Glad to see Trey Sermon succeeding at OSU. Scary to think he was a 3rd string RB at OU before transferring to OSU last year.
Obviously, I am a Baker Mayfield fan but as porous as the Browns defense was in the 2nd half against Big Ben's Steelers....the Browns secondary is going to get abused by Mahomes and Co. Would be thrilled if Browns beat Chiefs but don't see it happening this year. Great season overall for the Browns (other than loss to Jets) and future looks bright!
Big 12 Basketball results from play last night! Blake....there is always the next game for KU? Sweaty, Crusty Camo Truck Stop Hat gets right side up! Boomer!
I bet I know what Mr. Wenzel is doing right now....might be getting to see a pic of that old cap again. Yeah Mr. Pearce...Baylor has sadly underachieved a few times in the tournament.
Bruce Weber cannot recruit decent players. When he first became head coach at Southern Illinois he did great with the players he inherited, then after 3 years they slowly went down hill. Then he got the head coaching job at Illinois, when Bill Self went to Kansas, which had a top 5 recruiting year 2 years prior, took them to the tourney and slowly went downhill. Now at K-state, sort of the same scenario. I remember a couple years ago where McGurl was coming off the bench looking like he should be starting. After watching today's came I think he has regressed and they really do not have anyone much better

State isn't firing on or hitting any cylinders...point blank they suck this year. I'm SO tired of watching them shoot 3's, if I were Weber they wouldn't even be allowed to try a 3 until the last 5sec of the shot clock.
Bill "I don't care about anyone but my" Self is obviously tanking the season, knowing that it will be "all for not" after the infractions. They're averaging 6pts a game off fast breaks? His fat butt will be gone after this season, and they'll be lucky to even make the tourney.
Even bigger win, Crested. Sooners are on a heck of a roll.
See the little purple pekinese is back, with the same little ankle-biting yipping we’ve heard the past dozen years or so. Same crap last year...ended the season #1 seed in the tourney.
Mike....when you’re a Sooner, it’s always great to beat Texas no matter the sport and even better when you beat them in Austin! We have such a rivalry and hate for them we made sure to incorporate the “horns down” gesture in our logo!
With that win over Uterus Univ., we just beat our second top 10 team in a row and have two more coming up back to back (#9 Bama & #10 Texas Tech). Can OU win 4 straight against top 10 ranked teams...probably not but 2-0 so far?
Yeah, the EMAW’s from Blue Mont Central College are suckin a nut this year. I guess some basketball misery to go along with football.
Oh well, have ya’ll seen Crusty Hat before.....sure you have, Hee!, Hee!
When you’re a non-Tex, anybody who beats them anywhere is a big deal. (Have been a TCU fan.) Soooooo loved the way Bill Snyder’s teams of walk-ons and two-stars basically dominated about every conference team down there for so many years.
Be still...come on man....after all it was the Blue Mont Central College Wildcats that Baylor played last night. Call "him" back....who exactly are you referring to?
Lookout....TCU & KU tonight....could the Jayhawks lose 4 in a row? Probably not...Mike, I know you will know the answer to this how long ago was it that KU lost 4 in a row in basketball? If it starts looking that way...watch for Bill Self to bench everyone and suit up and take the court solo and lead the end of game fast breaks and full court pressure to pull out the win. The performance could be so legendary that it could make Kyle scared enough to get up off his couch and actually lock his front and back doors.
Yeah it's so different. More different for the teams that are losing more than usual. The teams having good seasons somehow adjusted, but the weirdness has been too much for Duke, Kansas, Kentucky...
Never understood the love affair with Billy Dean Snyder....while at K-State his career winning % was .540. Am I correct, most of the sports world would view that as mediocre at best and most coaches would be fired with that winning % within 3-4 yrs. He unlike coaches today had a very, very long leash?
Yeah Writer is right...I have faith that man could coach any sport and have success. Now Crested you know SOONER or later y’all will have to play the Bears again...I’m assuming they’re wishing for later:) Naw they seem to be feeling a little frisky in Norman and for pretty good reason...they have something stirring right now.
Oh now Crested it’s my turn to say...Come on Man. I’ve always liked the Wildcats and like them even more now that I’m hunting up there. Look at that talent he had to work with...he didn’t have much to work with. After nearly every game I would be in awe and just shake my head and wondered how they just won or came close to winning. He was a dang good coach and even a better man.
Be still.....apparently doesn't take much to impress you then? In all honesty I've had to shake my head a time or two as well. Glad I haven't had to do it much at all historically speaking. As they say...the sun shines on a dog's "you know what" every now and then. With Bill Snyder coaching at K-State for 25 yrs......that was only 1998, 2003, 2012. At KU that has only been 1947, 1968 and 2007. Baylor...a few years in football and a few in basketball including possibly this year. We shall see how it plays out though?
Yes sir, Sooners have something stirring right now. Hope in Norman on 2/10, they are stirring and serving up cooked bear?
Yeah I’m a pretty simple man and yes Coach Snyder always impressed me. Whenever you played that team you knew on that day no matter what team he had you better be bringing it cause they sure were. He wasn’t flashy nor was his players but they got respect from everyone. If a K State fan is beside you at the end of a game no matter if you won or lost you want to reach over and...shake their hand. All the other fans of other schools you want to reach over and...slappem. Go look up all the words for Honesty, Hardworking, Honor, Integrity...etc and that’s what Coach Snyder brought to you with his team. Can’t judge people on records...there is some hunters that shoot huge deer on High Fence Places every year that have great records but that doesn’t make them greater hunters than the people that hunt free range. As far as the talent level they get Oklahoma and Texas coaches remind me of High Fence Hunters...and here in the past 10 years or so the Longhorn coaches can’t even shoot big deer inside the High Fence.
Well....Big 12 is 1-0 against SEC right now with other games in play. Yep, in the early game my Sooners knocked off #9 Bama for their 3rd straight win against top 10 ranked teams...and did it without 2 starters with one of those being the teams leading scorer (COVID protocol). Next up, is #10 Tex Tech assuming they win their SEC match-up today.
Crusty hat is starting to smell some cooked bear in the wind currents!
Ha yeah we got to grill some longhorn first. I like Baylor’s defense and they’re sharing the ball well on offense. Oklahoma has it going on as well...can’t wait for that one.
Really Jay Bilas.....you believe Baylor has played enough games for their current ranking?
Really Jay Bilas.....you believe Baylor has played enough games for their current ranking?
My Sooners are supposed to be whoopin up on #2 Baylor tonight but instead the bears are ducking the Sooners and apparently everyone else too. At this point Baylor has postponed over 50% of the scheduled games. At this rate, they are going to be playing make up games well into April. Don’t believe they would be undefeated or #2 if they had played even half of their postponed games. They are fake news and should be dropped out of the top 10.
Ha yeah I heard they didn’t have enough players available to meet the big 12 protocol. But this long wait I think could hurt them...hopefully they come back in rhythm. I was sure looking forward to tonight...I was even going to find an old Camo BU cap today in town just to post it tonight. Crested...some of my most dreaded moments as a kid was when I did something wrong in public and my dad would tell me I had one coming later when we got home. Always wished he would just have taken his belt off right then and get it over with instead of having to deal with the misery of what I had coming. That’s probably what the sooners are feeling right now and I feel for them:)
Belts....seriously? You guys have it easy in Texican Land! If there actually is a make up game and OU wins, I will hand you a knife so you can go cut yourself a switch so you can take your medicine OKIE style!
You not only still have to deal with the misery coming but have to live with another bad choice made if picking/cutting the wrong switch! Heck, who am I kidding...you can never pick the “right” switch as they all sting like the dickens! Will take a belt over a switch any day!
Oh no If I had the choice back then it would have been the switch...then again my momma was the one that used the switch. My sister got out of whipping one time cause when she was told to go get a switch she went outside and brought back a sunflower stalk...guessed she thought it wouldn’t hurt as bad. Momma started laughing too much and lost the heart to give her one.
Whoa about made a fool of myself and nearly stepped into that one...did not know that phrase was no longer connected to baseball. Sure glad I looked that one up first.
As I'm sure you're wondering, it'll be interesting to see how Baylor's team responds to so much time off. You have to wonder how in the heck they'll have time to reschedule so many games. Michigan had been off a few weeks and struggled first half (daughter-in-law is an alum, so we follow) but came back strong in the second half and beat a ranked Wisconsin.
Strange seasons, as all have been. Still love to see Kruger get a national championship.
Great person who represents his team, that university, his alma mater and home state so well.
Teams will meet sport sponsorship requirements and be considered for NCAA championship selection if they play 13 games, which represents a 50 percent reduction of the current minimum. For NCAA championship consideration, all 13 games must be against another Division I opponent. The Division I Men's Basketball and Division I Women's Basketball committees also recommended teams play a minimum of four nonconference games.
Cherney...you are right. I believe Baylor has met these minimum requirements and thus are Ducking everyone from here on out. A strategic plan by their AD. Will have a great laugh at their expense if they get bounced from the Tourney game 1.
The title of the attached pic should be “Will They Really?” I for one don’t believe they will play their 3 remaining games (Iowa St., WV, KU) to finish out their Big 12 schedule.
Be Still....I see what you did there well played, Sir!
Cherney...ain't gonna lie...#17 from that list still hurts to this day. #4 was beautiful as I rode VCU the whole way and because of them I smoked everyone in my office March Madness Pool to win a cool $575.00. I only picked VCU that year because a few weeks prior I attended the ESPN Bracket Busters game (VCU vs. Wichita State) at Wichita St. and VCU came away with a 1 pt. win. Figured if they could beat that WSU team at Charles Koch Arena then they were probably pretty dang good. I was the only one that had them in my pool and I had them making atleast the Final Four!
Mike....Bill Self can't be included in that category of which you speak because as a coach (assistant, head or otherwise).....he has only won 1 natty...not multiple natty's like the other "great" coaches Cherney mentioned above. So, his name shall forever be removed from this list atleast until he wins his next one, fair statement?
Hey Cherney, they forgot one major upset, in March of 1988. That was when KU sent K-State back home, denying them a trip to the Final Four for the first time in 24 years. Gee, what's it been now? 57 years? I don't even think Kyle was born then.
Been some disappointments, but when you've been more consecutive times than any school, and you're routinely a #1-4 seed, there are more opportunities for upsets.
Let's see - Self's in the Basketball Hall of Fame, voted in by his peers and other basketball professionals. Who knows more about the game, and where he stands, those professionals or an OU fan always looking for a scab to pick at? Boy, that's a tough one!
Kyle - who'd you bet on last night to win? KU has their worst team in 20 years and they slaughtered the Wildcats, twice.
Good to see Wichita State managing to have a pretty good season after all the changes.
Still pulling for Kruger. Great person/coach. We kind of owe him since we kept him out of the Final Four all those years ago.
Wish we could say the Cats are headed in the right direction but the opposite is true...... it's painful to watch. Thankfully we'll likely have a new coach next year.
You don't have to remind anyone about Self being in the HOF. Everyone knows that. Heck it was his nickname with his recruiting partners from Adidas...
Frank Martin...really....in the 5 yrs. he coached at Blue Mont Central College he only had a single run to the elite 8 but the other 3 tourney appearances he got bounced in 2nd round and same results in NIT. It was certainly fun to watch him go all Bobby Knight on everyone. IMO, his biggest contribution in those 5 yrs of coaching in the Big 12 was sideline entertainment.
The whole 87-88 season jolt towards the end. KU home winning streak was going to end and a lot of us preferred Kruger get it, before Tubbs or Coach K came to town. Lost all three, then for a chance to beat all three to the championship.
50-50 at half at the 50th championship.
“Kansas can run with Oklahoma, but they can not beat Oklahoma,”— Billy Packer.
They aren't slated to play again until Tues. 2/23 against Iowa St. As posted above, I think they are done with their regular season schedule.....only thing is no one outside their program knows that. I guess we'll see?
Yeah I just checked to see what time they were playing today only to find that out...gosh dang. 3 weeks off is a long time. Heard a little something that maybe with them missing that many games they might do something different in crowning a big 12 championship. That would probably be fair.
Teams hoping to "make a run," could have used the experience of playing a team like Baylor. Any team that came out of the Big 12 strong this season would have to be sitting pretty into the tournament.
Might have saved his job. Not sure if that's good news or bad news. Seems like this team could be decent eventually if they get in the gym enough to learn how to shoot the ball.
Playing in Manhattan is Lon Kruger’s kryptonite....or his devious plan to keep Bruce Weber there? 3 more scheduled games (2 straight against red hot Okie St. and final game against a very good Texas team). Hope to win’em all to get good seating in tourney. However, have a feeling we’ll probably go 2 for 3 at best.
I see Baylor actually played last night and knocked all that rust off against ISU (the last place team in Big 12). Only won by 5pts or something and didn’t blow them out like some would expect a legitimate #2 team to do. Good for them....at this point they have actually played approx. 50% of their scheduled season. BOOMER!
They didn’t play like the #2 team the other night for sure....but only having one practice in that 3 week span and only 2 days before game I guess you can expect a drop off. I don’t know Patrick...Saturday’s game has me worried. Kansas starting to play now and then having 3 games next week. Could be interesting to see how they respond.
I despise most KU fans, sorry just had to get that off my chest. Btw, I’m a KU fan....for now. I just have to keep reminding myself there are sane KU fans out there. I HAVE to stop going to the politics board on the phog. Lol
Well, we all know that team playing 3 games /week for 2 weeks in a row sure wasn't Baylor. Big 12 is just adding to the wussification of America. Getting sick of how it is permiating our society. Yeah, yeah, yeah I know "it was done to protect the athletes." Stop with that already.
Ha, Ha....this was a game we really needed to win. Have to turn around and play them in Stoolwater for next game. A very tough place to get a win. Hope we aren’t heading down skid row now all of a sudden?
Baylor isn’t looking too grizzly right now. First game they looked horrible and against Kansas they seemed to be getting their defense back but their offense still wasn’t there. I expect them to struggle some the rest of the conference games but be ready by then to put on a dance show up in Indy. Game is early today though....they play at 4:00 followed by Illinois vs Michigan. Good watching this evening.
Mike I don’t think so...a lot of teams in the big 12 has gotten a bit better this 2nd half around. T-roy I was just messing with you earlier a little but after watching Illinois and Michigan tonight I stick by those words. If those are the 2 best teams the Big 10 has then they might exit pretty early. Wisconsin and Perdue looked slow as well. Went back tonight and looked through their schedules and can’t understand why they have the big 10 ranked that high. They do have some size in the paint though.
I’ll be the gentlemen that I am....as congrats are in order for Be Still and his bears clinching their first Big 12 bb title. Finish strong and even though next week is full of make-up games, I hope for the best for all Big 12 teams that make the “big dance!”
Thanks but y’all are jumping the gun way too quick. They have 2 games remaining and if they lose both of them that leaves them finished at 11-3. Kansas is 12-6. There is 4 games being left on the table they can’t play....3 of those 4 being Oklahoma, Texas, and West Virginia. All very capable of beating the bears so they better not accept anything right now.
Have to run out Mr Long as well don’t you? Bobby Petrino and now this. Not sure I’d feel comfortable with him replacing Bill when/if that takes place. Already plenty of issues on the round ball side of things.
A good hunting buddy's family, (not E.M) donated $1.4M to the football program about the time the Anderson complex was being built. He died a few years ago,...but I learned to stop bringing the subject up in the duck blind!
Somewhere, there should be a really nice plaque with their name on it, though. :-)
Also, be very very careful about including #2 Baylor in your NCAA Tourney brackets. Teams that can’t meet COVID protocol have to forfeit their upcoming game and thus are out of the tourney. There will not be any re-scheduled games.
Taking that into account good luck when selecting your teams. I figure Baylor will either forfeit their first or second game of the tourney!
Don’t want Baylor to lose but it would be kind of cool to see the 3PT purple shooting team get on a run and win the tournament to get in. I think they could win a few in the big one against another conference.
I’m thinking Prohm is definitely on the hot seat...... Maybe Nebraska will fire Hoiberg and ISU can bring him back to Ames. Overall, Prohm has done a good job, except for this year, but it’s a results oriented business, for sure. ISU fans would be ecstatic if they could bring “The Mayor” back.
So much in the time of the two tourneys is matchups and who is playing their best of the year, at that time. That’s what made a year ago disappointing for Kansas fans.
Hope they can win seven or so in a row. OSU is our #3 Big 12 team.
I really enjoyed the Grove brothers. Kind of wish they could have played together a little longer, maybe because my boys are too far apart in age to play together... The oldest is a senior this year who had a double double on any given night, and the youngest is a 7th grader who hit right at 50% from the 3pt line this year. Would have been fun to have them together for a pick and role!
Brackets are busted here! The only good news in that department is that everybody's bracket is busted. I love the underdog. Got to root for the low seed to make an upset even if I loose a buck.
The Groves have a heck of a story to tell their kids an grandkids. How many times have we seen that in the tournament...guys have by far their biggest game, guys who haven't taken a three all season make several. Appreciate the Sooners win. Now, if they can beat Gonzaga.
Holy smokes...there a little over 2 hours away from me and I’m not sure if I remember even hearing about them. That’s how small Abilene Christian is. I was pulling for Abilene at the end even though I had Texas going to the final....you gotta love it.
That was a heck of a game. Total enrollment of 4,500. Little teams laying it all out, guys having career games makes the tournament extra-special! Those players and fans have mementos to frame and hang!
or
Geez! How embarrassing. Program is in the tank. Shaka Smart will be gone before next season. (Oh, wait, that’s only if KU gets bounced!)
Our win over Mizzou would have been more satisfying if coaches were named Tubbs and Stewart! Man I miss those days and attended all those games since I grew up 3 blocks away from Lloyd Noble Center!
Poor, poor Texas. The boys from Abilene Christian will never have to pay for a meal in their city ever again. They had the “horns down” going that is for sure.
Yepper....2 easy missed layups and a missed free throw by a good shooter at the end. Arkansas should feel very fortunate. Hell one wasn’t even a layup...he was right under the basket. 999 out of a thousand he makes it...pisses me off. Big 12 is starting to fall off.
We hung with’em to the end or atleast until ticky tack fouling took over to kill clock. First time this year Zags held below 50% shooting. It hurt having our 2nd leading scorer out due to COVID.
Zags just too much! Assume we just got beat by the eventual Nat’l. Champs? Good Luck Baylor & KU!
I had to work on one my jobs so I didn’t get to watch it but I’ve seen the Zags play a little this season and they seem to have a complete team. With Big 12 falling Baylor might not be as good as I thought they were....we’ll see.
Really good thread. If the bet was Gonzaga or the Field, you'd usually always take the field over just 1 team. But, imo they are the best team this year. Yes, Baylor is very good and others. Fun to watch and see what happens.
The fact that this "investigation" is dragging out so long pretty well kills any credibility the NCAA had left. No doubt a lot of schools cheated and probably still are. The problem is that the NCAA acts like they want a fair playing field but are too worried about money to have the "results" of an investigation come out at an inopportune time that could hurt their bottom line. They're all about money and it's not fair at all to any of the involved parties.
None of your friends have ever been hindered by the NCAA either. This is an Isaiah Livers draft grading. No one is forcing that kid to play college basketball. He could’ve declared or gone overseas years ago. Instead he stuck it out, had a nice career and looks to be getting a general studies degree. 13 and 6 seniors don’t usually tear up the League, so I’d say CBS and the NCAA just provided him with his best career move possible. Wearing a woke t-shirt and acting like a clown in front of millions of eyeballs. No one other than Juwan Howard is cashing checks because of Isaiah Livers.
A couple of great games tonight! Heckuva a run for AR, but ya cain't go 8 of the last 10min w/o a field goal. Glad to see Baylor push through for "the Drew"!
Baylor’s intensity on defense seemed to be lacking a little last night. Luckily some shots fell for them and Arkansas wasn’t quick enough to stay in front of the guards. Be pretty cool to see them win the next 2.
Mike & Lee...of course I remember. Since we are taking a trip down memory lane, may I remind you of the other 1988 team accomplishments that year. Half that team including Danny M. should have been in-eligible to play that year. Due to NCAA's slow investigation process they cost OU or Duke a Natty.
To think this teams multiple violations (too many to mention) had the NCAA contemplating the "death penalty" for the program….but instead just treated them like the legal system currently treats poachers. Natty should have been stripped from them.
You guys look at that pic. with awe and prestige. When I look at that picture...well it's like looking at someone's 180-200 class buck on the wall knowing it was shot over a feeder. Darn Shame!
NORMAN, Okla. — The University of Oklahoma football program, which has won six national championships, was handed a 3-year probation Monday for repeated recruiting violations that National Collegiate Athletic Assn. officials said the school should have controlled. The school administration and Coach Barry Switzer said the penalties, including a 2-year ban from bowl games, no live television next season and recruiting restrictions, were too harsh, and interim university president David Swank said the decision would be appealed.
The Sooners were charged in an NCAA report with 20 recruiting violations over the past 8 years.
The NCAA report said Oklahoma’s football staff gave a recruit an envelope with $1,000 in cash, scalped game tickets and arranged for free airline tickets for players.

Switzer wrote personal checks to pay for players’ rental cars and to supplement salaries of assistant coaches, then allegedly lied to the NCAA about what he told his superiors, the report said.
An assistant coach got into a “bidding war” for a recruit, lied about it to the NCAA and then tried to get witnesses to change testimony, the report said.
Switzer denied there was any pattern of wrongdoing during his 16-year tenure as coach.
“I know, and I believe that our coaches know, that we do not violate NCAA rules,” Switzer said.
Mike/James, That 1988 article on OU is an oldie...from back when we only had 6 football Natty's. I fully expected that response/reply from homers like you two. Yes, go ahead and deflect the KU stain of embarrassment by supplanting info. about another team/program. Funny how your responses didn't deny the facts of the "other" 1988 KU team accomplishments that I listed. Your silence on that speaks volumes.
However, may I remind you that I didn't post a team picture in an attempt to reminisce about that teams perceived accomplishment specific to a given year. Everyone outside of KU agrees that they fraudulently won a "tainted" 1988 Natty as a direct result of multiple and egregious recruiting, academic fraud, player, coaching and overall program violations of preceding years (1986, 1987). I certainly wouldn't go out on a public forum puffing out my chest in proud adoration by sharing a team photo of what was quite frankly a stain on KU athletics. You might choose not to recognize it but others certainly do.
I actually really enjoyed watching Oklahoma during the Tubbs era. They played a very entertaining brand of basketball. I know a lot people were rubbed the wrong way by Tubbs but, I found him to be fun in a lot of ways.
Lee...I was in attendance at this 1989 game between OU & Mizzou. Mizzou coach "Stormin" Norm Stewart was beside himself during this game even though the calls were all going in Mizzou's favor. At that point, fans had had it with the officiating. However, at the request of the officials Tubbs made an announcement to the crowd and in essence had the last word on the matter.....and I quote "No matter how TERRIBLE the officiating is, please do not throw stuff on the court,"......and he got T'd right out of the building. Great memory!
Lol crested, most people don't know and don't care, homer or not. I could care less about KU basketball in 1988, I was 12.
OU isn't just any team we blindly chose to "deflect", they are a football "powerhouse" and just so happen to be YOUR favorite team. OU football has sure racked up those national championships since then though! I believe they have one? Just so happens to equal the number of the KU basketball program.
One more thing, did you notice in the article I posted that the years of violations OU was punished for included 1985? Don't be a hypocrite, be sure to put an asterisk on that Natty too!
Cheating in college athletics brings to mind the old saying "If you ain't cheat'n you ain't trying hard enough." I know that is said in jest, but unfortunately there is a lot of truth to it. It seems that college athletics is a dirty deal and some get caught, some don't and a few might even play by the rules.
I understand Larry Brown and the rest of the KU coaching staff (including Danny Manning's dad...Hmmm?) got a lot of satisfaction in 1988 when they all received their contractual "performance" bonuses for reaching Final Four and "tainted" Natty.
My buddy, a diehard basketball fan and a great player in his day, watches the women’s games as much as the men’s. He says they are just as amazing to watch.
Quick story - My wife was a Division I basketball player (UNO) in her day. When we were expecting our first she took me to Dave and Busters for my Birthday, she would have been 6 months pregnant and “showing” quite well. They have a basketball game there to see how many shots you can make in a minute... and you can compete against some else. I knew better after having my arse handed to me multiple times by her. Some guy was there beating a bunch of people, mainly high school kids, real arrogant SOB to boot. My wife stood in line, baby bump and all, and asked to play him. He kind of laughed, shrugged, and said sure. They played 2 games, a small crowd gathered after the first to watch my wife scorch him again.
I wish I could have ordered her the tallest “Black and Tan”... I stood about 10 feet tall. I believe she still has the single game 3 point record at the Community College she was recruited to after coming to America.
Personally, if I’m not involved in the action, I can’t stand to sit in front of a TV watching any game. Which is why I don’t comment much on these threads. I do enjoy sitting in the stands though.
I'd have loved to watch that go down Ray! The wife of one of my buddies in CO is a "giant", and I watched her whoop several men on the "punching bag machine" in a bar in Vegas...it was a hoot!
Watched the first game last night, they're so much more intense than most men's teams. I thought the SC girls got robbed on a couple of calls at the end but they certainly had a chance...or two...to win it!
Kyle, my sister in law is 6’ 5”... played professionally in Europe for several years. Has a European championship medal. I’d hate to piss her off.
You should have seen the line up at my wedding. All the bridesmaids were from Poland (all came to U.S. to play basketball). My wife was a shooting guard so she’s “only” 5’ 10”... we were both dwarfed. My oldest brother is 5’ 8” in shoes... to walk down the aisle we paired him with a 6’ 5” power forward! Ha! It didn’t bother him though as she was also a knock-out. Actually, you wouldn’t think so, but when it comes to those giant women in Poland they are danged attractive.
One was married to Darryl Thomas, played under Bobby Knight at Indiana. He died of a massive heart attack a couple years back, but he stayed at my house a few times, spoke to kids at the school I was principal at. I got to wear his championship ring... life of the party type of guy. Look him up if you haven’t heard of him... he was critical in the final seconds of the championship game.
Used to hate women’s basketball but the older I get I find myself enjoying it....doesn’t hurt that Baylor is usually pretty good. Hated to see them go down the other night and sure was hoping they were going to win it all like the men are about too.
Before the high school boys play I catch some of the girls games and Kyle is right...they get heated rather quickly. Funny too how they can have a UFC brawl on the court and refs won’t blow their whistle and right after in the boys game they’ll get a tech for just looking at a player the wrong way.
Is it just me or has anyone else realized this point guard for UCLA looks just like a young Bob Marley. Even take away the dreads and he still reminds me a lot of him.
One Arrow....don’t have to look it up. If my memory serves me right he hit the game winner ( 3ptr ? ) from left side of the arc with little to no time left on the clock to win the Natty that year, correct? I remember watching that play live on TV. Sad to hear he recently passed away.
Jason that didn’t sound right so I asked my brother cause back then he was a Hoosier fan...in fact we lived in Indiana for a year or 2 when I was a toddler. He said it was Keith Smart that hit the game winner from the corner.
One Arrow, my wife played college ball and the story of your wife rings true with her too. Watched many a confident guy who said no "girl" could beat them in basketball get their ass handed to them. She is quiet and doesn't talk trash, but once she's on the court it gets serious. Men usually assume she got lucky at first, then she repeats over and over (even after they step up their game). It's a blast to watch them get frustrated but unable to do anything about it.
She played against some Polish girls. I remember a couple of Polish sisters who were great players. Also spent a season with the Portland Fire (WNBA) as an Athletic Trainer. Got to know a lot of the pro's on personal level. Kind of fun to watch games on TV and know a handful of the players. That was a long time ago though, the one's we know have all retired.
Crested, Darryl assisted the shot. Bobby Knight gave a lot of credit for winning the game to Daryl for not taking the shot (he was having a great game) and dishing it back out to Smart instead.
I think a lot of people had these 2 teams at the end on their bracket. Before the tournament I would have bet a lot of money they wouldn’t be playing each other here....I had Baylor here but not Gonzaga.
I don’t know about that James....big 12 was tough this year. A few unlucky bounces off the rim this year kept several big 12 teams from advancing with the Cowboys claiming the number one spot.
Being born in Waco and living within 20 minutes of the stadium my whole life it makes me a huge Baylor fan. I was wanting to talk trash against Gonzaga but after tears flowed toward the end and again after hearing hearing from the Gonzaga Coach I can’t do it. Instead of making excuses he gave us credit. You got to admit after that emotional last second win they had before and the pressure of being undefeated they had a lot on the their shoulders. Still the Big 12 and Baylor deserves the credit this year....LETS GO.
I have stayed off of this thread on purpose, because I am a little biased on the team I choose to support. I had season tickets to OSU Cowboys BB, and I got to see every team in the Big 12 this year. As a guy that played college BB back in the day, and also knows the rules and follows the game, let me say without a doubt that Baylor was the best team I've seen in college this year. I don't talk trash on others because at any given time, a team can have a bad night shooting and lose. That being said, I got to see a young OSU team get better all season and yes, Cade is the real deal. He made others better because of his unselfish play, sometimes too unselfish. There are many very good players in the Big 12 and I hope that they all can recruit new players to replace the ones that will be leaving. Regardless, I will have tickets again next year and look forward to seeing some great ball. Watching games in person is nothing like seeing them on TV, that's what makes College sports so fun. Take care all
What a fun game to watch! March Madness did not disappoint this yr. Absolutely loved all the close games and upsets. I find it easy to root for the underdog and had a blast this tourny.
Like most, I was deflated when the last shot went in for the UCLA game. But, had Baylor had to play, and beat, UCLA, it would have detracted from the title.
As is, thoroughly beating a 1, 2, 3 seeds makes a statement. Gonzaga never beat any over #5.
I have to eat a few of my words as per Scott Drew. He’s now part of the elite.
See KU hired a new AD. What is that guy thinking? Maybe he tends to follow the pattern of failing for a few years, then getting a nice buy out. A good friend was in the search committee and really likes the guy.
Just realized that’s two consecutive tournaments the Big 12 had teams in the championship game. So Tech playing in-the 2019 championship. (typo edited)
It's far from a done deal that Texas and Oklahoma are leaving. If they do there are other options to take their place. Houston comes to mind to help maintain the Texas market. Their athletic program has been on par with Texas and maybe Oklahoma for the last few years. Perhaps Colorado State to get the Colorado market. Heck, Nebraska may want to get out of the big 10 whippings they have been taking. I am sure there other possibilities. Of course they could go back to being the big 8.
Yaaawwwnnn. I went to KSU, and went to a lot of Snyder victories 10-20 years ago. But what ever conference they’re in or no conference is so far off my give a hoot list. It’s just not that important.
I guess Texas and Oklahoma is getting tired of getting whooped up on by K-State and have decided they better get the hell out of town. Tuck that tail and run you little pansies.
Be Still…yeah that’s the reason fo sho! Especially, since in the last 14 games played between the two teams……KSU has totally dominated with a total of 4 wins? Yep….KSU’s current 2 game win streak is just more than we can handle. Look at those scores… pretty lopsided when OU wins and pretty closely contested game for KSU’s 4 wins. As we all know sometimes a blind squirrel finds a nut.
Whatever becomes of the Big 12 whether they add the likes of Houston or other schools or just settles in as the new Big 8….one thing is for sure they won’t be considered a Power Conf. any longer and relegated to the likes of C-USA, American, MAC, MW, Sun Belt.
KU doesn't need a conference. They are a basketball school. Everyone will want to schedule them regardless. ESPN doesn't want to see KU vs KState or KU vs Texas, they want to see KU vs Duke, vs Kentucky, vs Notre Dame, vs Gonzaga. Kstate needs KU, without that rivalry they have nothing. They will become very irrevelant without KU and the Big 12.
She’s back, with the same miserable yipping and peeing on the carpet as the last 10 years.
Interesting going back in this thread “Self will be gone after this year,” …”lucky to make the tournament.”
Same every NCAA thread for a decade or more.
Looking forward to your insight as the Big 12 is likely to be no more, Clipper. Don’t think I’ve heard where you got your teaching degrees? Guessing a small college?

Texas drives me crazy, they single-handedly ruined the Big 12 and then they run. They will be miserable in the SEC; they won’t compete (couldn’t win in the Big 12, how do they expect to do it in the SEC?) and they won’t push anybody around in the commissioner’s office either.
Well Mike, I haven't heard anything about another conference looking to add the Jayhack $hit$how but maybe I missed that?
Can't wait to see what happens with the independent investigation. Doubt you or any of the other "hang'r-on's" will admit they're cheaters even then.
I know you, and I feel like I know James, Blake, and Jeff. Always thought you were good guys, but good guys can admit and accept when things have gone awry.
Kyle, I enjoy college sports, not as much as I used to (more a result of the encroachment of politics than anything), but I’d never allow a fella’s choice of who he cheers for determine his “good guyness”. I guess I just don’t care that much about 20 year olds shooting or catching a ball; or who’s coaching them to do so. I do rib my K-State grad brothers-in-law often, and they do the same… they are some of the best guys I know and I’m pretty sure they feel the same about me.
Oh they cheated, no doubt about it. But I think that the colleges have more power than the NCAA right now. The NCAA is the equivalent of the KS Legislature, a bunch of idiots. With the ruling now that players can cash in, this case against KU is done. Besides it takes about 10 years for the NCAA to make a decision about anything.
KU and Iowa State to the Big 10 Writer. KState IDK. They will go to one of the weaker leagues. They better stay out of the MIAA to avoid any more embarrassment. And I graduated from the college with the best football program in the state of Kansas. Guarantee you Ray knows which one.
Kyle, what do you mean by support? Cheer for? They don’t get any of my money. Occasionally I go to a game, so there’s a little cash, although most times I’m given tickets. If I were to not support anyone/team who has some corruption in their past, the list would become quite small. I might never watch another ballgame above high school level ever again. And who in the world would I vote for??
This is not going to be fun. I think at this point, it's every man for himself and trying to get into what I believe will become the Power 4 conferences. If a current Big XII member gets an invite to the Pac or Big 10, they need to take it. If state governments get involved and start hounding package deals of their state's schools, I could see the conference moving down the list on who to invite, as they are in the driver's seat. Maybe it's a good thing our governor didn't go to KSU or KU?
I do believe the Big XII will either dissolve or do something with the AAC and MWC members. I am not excited by these options. It'll be a conference full of mid-majors and the argument will be that 2-3 of them are really good every season, so the top tier teams will be great for bowl games.
I have my undergraduate degree from TCU and my graduate degree from KU. With the surge in CA kids at TCU and the Californiacation of the DFW Metroplex, the TCU message boards are thinking we are destined for the Pac. Given the current shake-up, I'll gladly take it.
As for Kansas, the Big 10 would be a welcomed move. However, the last thing KU needs is its Texas recruiting pipeline to dry-up. Look how well Nebraska has faired since leaving the conference--this was a contributing factor. Some schools are going to get royally screwed on this conference realignment. I believe KU is in a better position that KSU at the moment. The rumors of ISU and KU to the Big 10 do make sense, although what does ISU really bring when it comes to media?
Lastly, something positive, I could see Notre Dame being forced into a conference. These super conferences will likely draw a line in the sand and say that we don't need to schedule powerhouse programs outside of the conference, as the conference has more than enough member teams to provide quality football throughout the entire season. However, conference challenges like we have in basketball "The SEC vs The Big XII" would be fun in college football.
Good luck to everyone. This is not going to be a fun couple of months. I hope that when the dust settles that we are all happy and still conference mates.
So much is up in the air right now. Will OU and Texas have to fulfill their TV contract with Big 12? If so, their road games will be absolute torture, and they should be for what they’re are bringing the conference to, especially Texas. All of this said, will the Big 12 even exist long enough for the TV contracts to remain?
I agree, any remaining team that has any kind of offer to a power conference should take it post-haste. The buyouts right now are crazy expensive though.
Jeff, I actually played one year in that great program. Middle linebacker. I guess making up for walking away from a scholarship to juco after I graduated high-school. I walked on, oldest player on the team as a freshman, I was 26 and was fortunate to play in a few games. Don’t regret it, my knees/shoulders do.
I rarely watch anything sports related anymore. Used to love NFL, but I do enjoy/follow college football a bit still. I’m a Kansas guy... KSU is my favorite in D1, but I enjoy when KU and Wichita are on a roll. PSU being my favorite of all. KU’s long history of liberalism has put a bad taste in my mouth.
I don't really watch college sports anymore either. They are all liberal. Basically anything on TV is loaded with liberalism and the commercials are horrible. The Olympics are pathetic. I even quit getting drinks at Sonic when they started with their new commercials. Those 2 old men were awesome on their commercials.
What you will end up with is 2 leagues, the Big 10 (NFC) and the SEC (AFC). And they will have a playoff system similar to the NFL. This will all happen within 10 years. Those 2 leagues are only going to let the big draw schools in. I think KU should not join a league and just go independent in Basketball. Let the football program dissolve. The American Conference was every bit as strong as the Big 12 in basketball and might be a better fit. I don't even know if the Big 10 will let them in. This is all about football. Kstate needs to build the biggest rodeo arena in the U.S. because that may be all they have going for them. They are in trouble.
"The American Conference was every bit as strong as the Big 12 in basketball"
The Big XII has had 4 different teams since 2015 in the Final Four compared to the American's 1 team in the same time frame. The year the American (Houston) was in the Final Four, they lost and Baylor went on to win the title. The American only puts 2-3 teams in the Tournament while the Big XII puts at least 6 teams in every year. They put 7 teams in the Tournament last year.
I don't measure the strength of a conference by how many teams they put in the NCAA Tournament. That is done by a committee that is steered toward letting in schools on what they deem as power conferences. They over look what they see as weaker conferences but those higher seeds have more success each year. I look at how those teams that have gotten in has faired in the tournament and I look at how those conferences matched up in head to head competition. Wichita States performance in the NCAA tournament is on par with KU and has actually beaten them when they went head to head. Wichita States win percentage in the NCAA tourney is better than most all of the teams in the Big 12 over the last 10 years. Just look at Loyola of Chicago, they have been consistently better the last couple of years than any team in the Big 12. I am just basing my assessment on 30 years of basketball coaching experience. My eye test tells me that Wichita State, Houston, Memphis, Cincinnati, and even UCF would compete in the top half of the Big 12. The Big 12 has been more hype than performance and overall has been a major disappointment as far as basketball goes. For the hype they get, they should be producing a national champion every couple of years. The ACC is the best conference in Basketball and we know who has the best conference in football, that is why Texas and Oklahoma are fleeing. The Big 12 is weak. There is parity, but it is not on par with the Big 10 and SEC. Just look at Nebraska and Missouri for more proof.
Ok, I'll bite. I'll go back to 2006 when WSU actually started to be relevant again and use this as our starting point for discussion.
They have 1 Final Four, 1 Elite 8, and 3 Sweet 16s during this span. They have 12 total NCAA Tournament wins. They haven't had a Tournament win since 2017.
Since 2006, Kansas has 1National Championship, 1 loss in the National Championship game, 3 Final 4s, 6 Elite 8s, and 9 Sweet 16s. They have 36 total NCAA Tournament wins. They were also the Overall Number 1 seed in 2020 before the Tournament got cancelled, so that isn't in here.
This is far from "on par with KU."
Loyola's coach is at OU now. I don't know if Sister Jean went with him.
Facts are facts. I am from Wichita and have no problem with WSU. I try to pull for them but their fans banging on tables at bars yelling "F KU!" makes it pretty hard at times. One of their former assistant coaches is a friend of mine and I can have rational conversations with him. I actually was out with him last Friday night. WSU being good at basketball is great for Wichita as a city. However, they are not Kansas--not even close.
Like it or not Kyle, paying players is “legal” now; the rules, or lack thereof are crazy and confusing. NCAA has lost this battle, a battle they chose only to fight with some schools, not all. So what are you going to complain about now?
I never said that WSU was on par with KU. I said the AAC was on par with the Big 12. The top 4 or 5 teams in the American are as good as the top 4 or 5 teams in the Big 12. In the last 10 years, WSU has been better in the NCAA tourney than most all of the Big 12 schools. Marshall over achieved in the NCAA tourney. KU has under achieved. Given KU's rankings, which you seem to love, and given the recruits it has brought in, they have vastly under achieved in the tourney. In the Big 12, they have dominated, outside the Big 12, Bill Self has failed to live up to expectations. That should speak to the weakness of the Big 12. There is a reason that Missouri, Nebraska, OU, and Texas has fled. KU will struggle to win league championships in the Big 10 if they decide to move. Mark my words.
I think it would be interesting to survey CU, NU, TA&M and MU fans to learn their level of satisfaction with their departures from the BigXII. I know the $chool$ them$elve$ are plea$ed, but what about the fans?
Infractions, whatever…. It still cracks me up that you believe no money has exchanged hands in Manhattan — keep on believin’. NCAA is as corrupt as they come, them and their rules that they choose to enforce only with schools they deem unworthy. Soon they will be a relic. The question is, will KU or K-State either one be a part of the new arrangement when the NCAA is abandoned by the power conferences?
All top basketball programs are dirty. They toe the line just enough to get away with it. Do I believe that KU runs a squeaky clean program? No, I don't. I have a feeling the NIL is going to clean-up a lot of these improper benefits to athletes. However, I also feel that this is going to create a wider gap between the "haves and have-nots."
Those were the good ole days. I went and watched Nolan Cromwell play a couple of times. One of those games was the big upset over Oklahoma. I had end zone seats for that one. I also watched him compete in track and field and the decathlon. Then I was lucky enough to go teach and coach at his high school and elementary school.
Texas and OU will now be forever linked; kind of funny to see OU cozy up to daddy. Hope you have enjoyed those football conference championships Crested, you’ll never have another one after the switch, that is certain.
Proud KStater here. This NIL stuff looks like it’s going to ruin what good was left of college football and basketball anyway. I’m hoping for a move to the Mountain West. Won’t miss a thing about Texas, Oklahoma, or the Hawks, Clones, Bears etc. if the big break up happens. Trips to Reno, Logan, Ft Collins, Laramie, Vegas, San Diego, Honolulu and Boise sound a lot better than Lawrence, Columbia, Ames, Waco and Norman, among others. We can get rid of those lame 11am home kickoffs too. If the playoff expands to 12 teams there will plenty of opportunity for a seat at the table. Winning the Mountain West sounds better than wallowing middle of the pack in a “super conference”.
ksq232....Texas hasn't been anybody's Daddy of late. Interesting that Texas wants to pay OU's way out of the Big 12 and while doing that pay for more future beatings that we'll gladly give them. No worries, we'll do just fine in the SEC. Will be interesting to watch everyone else's fate as the dominoes start falling. Funny how the Big 12 administration in an act of desperation met late last week to discuss giving OU and Texas more shares of the "shared" TV revenue to stay in the Big 12. In the end it was still way less than they will make each year in the SEC.
KB....Mountain West is where I have the Cats pegged to go as well. 2022 or 2025 headline: Klieman named coach of the year in the MWC.
Got my hot bowl of popcorn at the ready to watch this all play out over the next 3-4 mos. May the shuffling begin!
I hope you’re right Crested. And I hope it’s in 2025 with about a quarter billion dollars of ESPN’s money. The reports coming out in the last few hours of ESPN, OU/UT and AAC collusion aren’t pretty. I think you’re going to need 3-4 years of popcorn! Going to get ugly.
ksq232….OU will be playing in the SEC next year not in a few years. As far as running game….see our RB transfer portal pick-ups from Tenn. and LSU. Also have commitments from #2 & #3 RB’s in the nation that will join the other 2 for next year in SEC play. Lincoln Riley being the offensive guru that he is always has a pipeline of top offensive linemen cycling thru and depth there looks good for the foreseeable future.
Link attached is article about Big 12 officials recent meeting to discuss enticing OU & Tex to stay with more money for them and less for the rest of the Big 12 schools. Those kind of shenanigans are enough to break up the conference completely.
Sorry, the ship has sailed and desperation “I promises” from the Big 12 don’t fix it!
The Big 12 has been a disaster for several years because of Texas, and yes Texas b/c of their budget is OU’s benevolent daddy in this. I don’t know where KU will end up, but I’m glad Texas will be in the rear view mirror. Back to OU, IF they are playing in the SEC next year, what is your under/over for their losses? I’d say 3 and I’d go over. How many years until their first conference championship? I say it won’t happen until Saban retires. And no, I’m not much of a betting man. Even though my KBA bet with cherney might end prematurely thanks to OU and their daddy.
Kansas clipper….you nailed it! This is all about viewership and how many sets of eyeballs are tuned in to certain schools when they play. Like you said before….for example network (ESPN or FOX) basketball viewership wants to see KU vs. Duke, Kentucky, Gonzaga….not KU vs. KSU, Iowa St., Taco Tech, TCU, etc.
The table attached from a few years ago shows viewership of OU and TEX games compared to rest of the Big 12 schools “combined.” You can bet that TV exec’s have this data and more. Just think, OU did that with alot of 11am or non-prime time games too. This is why the SEC has no problem adding OU & TEX to the fold.
ksq232….if all things go as planned, OU struts into the SEC next year wearing a new Natty ring. I expect atleast 1 or at worst 2 losses per year and in most cases still win the SEC. I can be happy with that.
Remember, we’re gonna bring some new losses to existing SEC teams that aren’t used to losing a few more games per year as well.
In terms of KU’s future, as long as you ditch little brother your going to the Big 10…..everyone knows that! You get to play the likes of Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio St., Wisconsin, Maryland, etc. I think a great move for KU if that actually happens.
Everything I ever say on here is spot on. Kind of an expert. The Big 12 is a solid balanced conference. And I am talking basketball where a champion is determined by play on the court, not by pollsters. Until they have a format like Division II, I have no interest in football. Drop the bowl games and have a tournament. But basketball is dominated by Duke, North Carolina, UConn, and Villanova. Teams in the east. Every 15 years or so, the Big 12 jumps in the mix. But for the players KU has had, the hype of Bill Self, and being ranked high every year, I am disappointed as a KU fan in the lack of final 4's and championships. I could care less about a share of the Big 12 title.
KU can’t afford the Big XII buyout. As long as the other 7 stick together and put the screws to ESPN and UT/OU they aren’t going anywhere until 2025. Hard telling who will be in the Big 10 by then. Basketball matters very little in all of this.
You’re an optimist crested, I’ll give you that. You’re setting yourself up for major disappointment though. I can’t stand Missouri, so I don’t know the answer to how their Big 12 record compares to their SEC record. I’m guessing they fared much better in the Big 12, when it comes to record.
Baylor won it 2021, Kansas 2008, and then Arizona in 1997. Predominately the Champions come from the East in the modern era like I stated. When the Big East formed, the power of basketball shifted. Of course, football and money ruined the Big East just like they are doing to the Big 12. The money is with college football, that is why when you here of corrupt recruiting of college athletes it always revolves around basketball. They leave football alone. Could you imagine putting Saban or Sweeney on the hot seat for violations? It would hurt their 4 game playoff ratings. They might have to stick a Big 12 school in there or BYU or Coastal Carolina.
ksq232….see table with Mizzou’s record since joining the SEC in 2012. Their record each season pretty much mirrors what they had been doing in the Big 12.
However, in their 2nd & 3rd seasons in the SEC they won the east division and played in SEC championship (2013 & 2014).
As of late, they are .500 avg. win team (same as they were thru most of their time in Big 12) but that probably has more to do with 2 coaching changes/staffs in the last 5 yrs. since Pinkel retired.
You remind me a whole lot of my Longhorn buddy....been blowing up my phone here lately saying what y’all going to do? What y’all going to do? Same thing I told him...we’re just fine. We’re used to getting by with no name recruits. I can tell in his voice he’s worried and that’s usually the case when somebody is concerned about what somebody else is doing to hide their insecurity. He said it might help a little with recruiting and I just had to laugh at that. Both Oklahoma and Texas hasn’t had the type of success that’s worthy given the talent y’all get. Here lately it was getting pretty evenly matched with Iowa State and K-State starting to manhandle the overrated Sooners.
I’m worrying about y’all and hopefully the trip goes alright. Bevo has a pretty good limp right now but I’m pretty sure he has enough strength to pull that banged up Ole Sooner Wagon out there. What a little desperate pair y’all make.
Things that get too big topple over the easiest. I remember a time the conference to be in was the swac. Then the big 10, then the pac 12, then big 12, then SEC. Everything is a phase and eventually the SEC will burn out and another conference will standout. Just like everything thats going on today, the media controls everything.
It won't burn out. It will expand into a system very similar to the NFL. Players are now getting compensated and the SEC is expanding. If you can't see something similar to the NFL forming you're blind. What may happen is the schools and conferences will break away from the NCAA all together and form their own system. I see 4-6 divisions, then an east and west super bowl type game for the championship. 12 game season then the playoffs. The SEC has been wanting to split from the NCAA for quite some time. The NCAA was ignorant for allowing the compensation of players, they dug their own grave. The schools smell money now and a break from the NCAA and a playoff system will allow them to cash in. This is why the NCAA can't and won't touch Bill Self. The power has shifted.
Yep….in 20 yrs it won’t resemble anything that we are used to. It will be minor league football with a players assoc./union. Enjoy the last of the good ole days while you can.
I have never seen anything good about Division 1 college football. League play is competitive and the bowl match ups intriguing but they have never ever determined a champion like basketball does. Good bye NCAA!
I have a very close friend, a father figure to me actually. He’s the most diehard OU fan I know. He’s extremely upset about the move, as well as everything else going wrong with college sports, from compensation to politics. He can’t stand being tied to Texas. He said he’s done, we’ll see if he sticks with that decision. I will say this, he used to make 5 to 6 games a year, and he hasn’t been in two years now, so maybe he is serious?
This recalls something that happened fifty years ago, the local country club burned down and most of the town was in a tither, at the time I thought, "so what". Now, I am struck with the same reaction. Is this an unmanful reaction?
BYU, Cincy, UCF and Houston are getting Big 12 invites next week it sounds like. Not terribly exciting in the way of football, though they’re probably the four best options by far. Does make for the best basketball version of the Big 12 yet.
I’ve just seen one reporter speculating it might be football only simply because other sports are already in a conference. Have also read that the Big 12 prefers to have all sports though. They play in a 19,000 seat basketball arena. I’m sure they’d rather sell tickets to KU, Baylor, WVU, Cincy, Okie St, etc. games than Santa Clara, San Diego and Portland matchups.
Barely they did. KU fans stormed the field as only KU fans would do. I guess desperate times call for desperate measures? They may not win another one the rest of the year but if they do it might be their next game and the 11/6 game?
Well I just turned it on FS1... I didn’t know K-State was playing early. At first with the colors of the other team and score I thought it was Oklahoma. I bet the Sooners are going to have trouble once again this year with the Wildcats.
