What week would be the best for a summer scouting trip for elk?

Third week of August is my preference, but I actually start in june I scout around the edges so as not to interfere with their activities.

If you go August, be cognizant of other seasons that might have already opened where you're hunting, like sheep season so you don't screw up somebody's hunt!

If you are planning on hunting at high altitude make sure you wait until most of the snow has melted. This can vary greatly depending on the year. Other than that I say whenever you can make the trip. You can always learn something.
