Hello all, looking to head out west with couple buddies for an OTC elk hunt in the 2022 rifle season. Was seeing if anyone on here had any good experiences with semi-guided elk hunt. Any information on outfitters would be greatly appreciated.

What do you mean by "semi-guided", what sort of experience do you want - ranch, horseback camp with a cook? Not a whole lot of "semi-guided" opportunities anymore because they are a PIA for outfitters. You might check with Scott Limmer from Comanche Wilderness Outfitters about wilderness drop camps. That's probably as close as you'll find.

Jaquomo we are looking for a horse camp with a cook and knowledge of the area. Someone who can help point us in the right direction and areas to hunt. Not looking for someone to be directly by our side. Do you know of any good outfitters that fit that description? Any information you have would be greatly appreciated!

BG,
I'm not an outfitter but what you are describing you would like I'd think you're probably looking at a fully guided hunt? Not sure an outfitter is going to put together a horse camp with cook, etc without just having a guide too?
As mentioned in your other thread, I would probably give Forestbows or Matt with Stick and String a call. Those guys could help.

^^^ this. Back in the day a few outfitters used to do something like this. But with the demand for guided hunts now, the only way it may be offered is if the outfitter is short a guide or two. Which is possible.

Jaquomo's Link
I just did a Google search for "elk drop camp with cook" and a few options came up. This link sounds like exactly what you are looking for if Forest or Matt can't help, but you should check them first since they are Bowsite sponsors and very reputable. I know nothing about the outfit in the link. Drop camps can be really iffy because you might be stuck in a place with no elk, or where the elk have already been run out or where there are other hunters camped at the other end of the meadow.

Azelkhntr, have you used them as an outfitter or do you know anyone that has?

No I haven't and I don't. I do know they run 3-4 camps up in the Sarvis Creek Wilderness and their rates are very reasonable. Beautiful area with good stats for elk. I saw a lot of moose in there last year and loads of blues. I was looking at them last year for a possible drop. They are listed in the RMEF Outfitter Camp. The terrain in there isn't extreme and it offers lots of open meadows when you get back into it. Quite a few moose and bear in there as well. I don't think id want to be in there for 3rd rifle tho.

I hunted the area on their map. It been several years and was only in that area for a few days. But it was hammer with hunters. That is why I left after a 2-3 days. I don't know if they pack you in far enough to get away from the crowds. If you talk to them I would find out how much pressure they get from other hunters.
