Public Land Hunter: college Qs

We're public land hunters from Idaho and as my Son thinks about heading to college, he wants a place where he can hunt. He had about 120 days last year so access is a big factor. Should he consider NC or is it too tough to find public land. In Id we hunt elk, deer, bear, turkey, upland game birds, ducks, geese mostly.

Plenty of public land from game lands to national forests spread across the state. The national forests in the western part of the state is a wee bit thin on the deer but plenty of turkeys and bear. National forests are included in the game lands list. I'm putting in a link for harvest statistics. They are broken down between private and public land.

The other good thing about NC is a long hunting season (archery starts in early September, all big game seasons end Jan 1), Sunday hunting, and liberal tags. A hunting license is good for 6 deer (two may be antlered deer) and 2 turkeys.

I also lived in PA for most of my hunting life. In my experience, that state has one of the largest amounts of public land available for hunting- state game lands, state parks, and state forests. So your son may want to check out colleges in PA, as well.

He can choose the Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, I study there and there is a wonderful forest near our campus where you can hunt.
