Up until this recent cold cold snap things have been good for the herd this winter.

As long as there isn’t deep snow along with this cold what deer are left especially in the northern counties should still be in good shape.

Its been a great winter here so far. Cold temps lately, but very little snow. Deer have their feedbags on around my place. They have been browsing in areas they usually don't come into this time of year. Lots of exposed feed available. Lets hope it stays this way. A good winter would be a plus.

I took a hike in the timber today out of boredom. Checked a trailcam & the Deer looked fat & sassy . I noticed that the Deers 3rd, 4th ,& 5th food choices that they start hitting in a normal winter are almost untouched. With a big warm up a week away they are just about home free.
Look at this fat boy .

The deer up north sure needed this. One mild winter won’t change things a lot but another winter like last year would have been catastrophic for the deer herd. Hopefully we can have wolf hunt again this fall that brings the population back closer goal.

I am thinking positive for this fall. Bayfield Cty herd really needed this. Hoping a big boy I passed opening of gun eludes the wolves for my fall bowhunt.

A few less wolves around finally and a mild winter is just what we need in the far north. Parts of northern Bayfield still have deep snow, but hopefully the deer got to the swamps and river bottoms to wait out the winter. Can't wait to put on the miles tramping around the woods scouting and looking for some sheds.

Yes, it was a decent winter, like Muskybuck said there is still some deep snow in parts of northern Bayfield county, I made the mistake of not bringing my snowshoes along this past Friday, breaking through the hard crust made it a hard walk. Wink501, your absolutely correct "One mild winter won’t change things a lot", we need 3 to 4 mild winters, get these wolves under control, and hopefully convince the cdac members to stop giving out doe tags in parts of the Bayfield County where it's not needed. Did not find any wolf deer kills so far, wolves did get themselves into a little trouble in the Northwoods, with snow not as deep as last year deer were able to outrun and escape most chases, so the wolves resorted to livestock. The female radio-collared wolf that I captured on camera all summer and fall is believed to be dead. Excited for this snowpack to melt and scout for this Fall.

Wolves eat plenty of deer but I think coyotes are doing more damage.

the day after our 1 day wolf hunt hunt we did a 11 mile circle at noon on the sleds around where we hunted and cut one deer track from the fresh snow the night before. I know there is cutting 5 mi South and guessing that's where the deer, if any and puppies are? There has been logging along our road before gun season and into December and just no sign of tracks or browsing which is crazy and would be easily seen. This winter has been great but the deer numbers are terrible in the big woods
