This big boy gobbled several times from the limb as dawn broke. I gave him a few sleepy tree yelps and he went silent on me. 10 minutes of torture had me questioning what he was doing when suddenly I heard rustling in the leaves behind me, and the unmistakable sound of a tail fan snapping open like an umbrella. In seconds he was strutting right outside the blind and headed straight to my Jake decoy. He was facing directly away up in the Jake’s face bossing him around and in full strut so I took advantage of the moment and drew back ,settled my pin on his butt and squeezed the release. At the shot he half launched in the air and tried to fly but collapsed into the leaves in 19 yards (didn’t go 20 lol). Down in less than 5 seconds! He was a solid 21 lbs with nearly 1” Spurs and a 9” beard. I’m super happy to harvest him and thankful for a swift and humane kill. Hunt Hard and keep grinding!

Brian I use blinds from Double Bull and Ameristep. I shoot off my knees to get adequate limb and cam clearance.

It’s been a grind Longbeard. Up at 3:45 morning after morning living in a turkey coma. Turkey numbers are way down in the areas I hunt in the NE part of the state. I have worked birds but they’ve gobbled out of my life, hung up at 50 yards or just refused to leave a hen. Nice to seal the deal now and then.
